THE following result of the election of a member of the Wanganui Fire Board by Fire-insurance Companies has been reported to the Minister of Internal Affairs and is notified in accordance with the rules under the Fire Services Act, 1949 :—

The Servicemen's Settlement and Land Sales Act, 1943.—Notice Declaring Land Taken for the Settlement of a Discharged Serviceman
WHEREAS an application has been made for the consent of the Land Valuation Court to a transaction which relates to the land described in the Schedule hereto and to which Part III of the Servicemen's Settlement and Land Sales Act, 1943, applies :
And whereas the Land Valuation Committee to which the application has been referred is of opinion that the land to which the application relates is farm land suitable for the settlement of a discharged serviceman :
And whereas the said Committee, not being satisfied that the Crown had decided not to acquire or arrange for the acquisition of the land, did on the 6th day of November, 1950, make an order determining the basic value of the land and no appeal from the said order was made within the time prescribed by the said Act or within any further time allowed by the Court :
And whereas the said land is not the land of any serviceman who is for the time being serving outside New Zealand in any of His Majesty's Forces or in any British ship :
Now, therefore, the Minister of Lands, acting in pursuance of section 51 of the said Act, doth hereby declare that the said land is taken for the settlement of a discharged serviceman, and hereby specifies the 24th day of November, 1950, as the date on which the said land shall be deemed to be vested in His Majesty the King.
SCHEDULE
NELSON LAND DISTRICT
ALL that area containing by admeasurement thirteen (13) acres two (2) roods thirty-eight point seven (38.7) perches, more or less, being Lot 1 on Deposited Plan No. 3231, and being part of Section 25, District of Motueka, situated in Block X, Kaiteriteri Survey District, and being all the land contained in Certificate of Title, Volume 92, folio 124 (Nelson Registry).
The above-described land is subject to (a) a right-of-way over part of the land appurtenant to the land in Certificate of Title, Volume 65, folio 97, created by Conveyance No. 31502 ; (b) a right-of-way over part of the land appurtenant to Lot 2, D.P. 3231, contained in Certificate of Title, Volume 91, folio 91, created by Transfer No. 34531.
Appurtenant to the above-described land is a right-of-way over part Lot 2, D.P. 3231, contained in Certificate of Title, Volume 91, folio 91, created by Transfer No. 34531.

Rangitaiki Land Drainage.—Notice of Intention to Make and Levy General Rates and Notice of Amendment of Annually Recurring Special Rates

Wellington, 9th November, 1950.
NOTICE is hereby given that it is intended, pursuant to the Rangitaiki Land Drainage Act, 1910, and its amendments, to make and levy, on the unimproved value of all land within the district constituted under the said Act, the general rates described in the First Schedule hereto, to meet maintenance costs for the period 1st April, 1950, to 31st March, 1951.
Notice is also given that, pursuant to the Rangitaiki Land Drainage Act, 1910, and its amendments, the annually recurring special rates made and levied on 4th May, 1938, and payable on the 30th August in each year on the unimproved value of all land within the Rangitaiki Land Drainage District has been amended as from the 1st April, 1950, to the amounts described in the Second Schedule hereto and the said special rates will, in respect of the financial year ending on the 31st March, 1951, be payable on the 11th December, 1950, and will in respect of every future year be payable on the 30th August in such year.
The amount of the general rates, together with the annually recurring special rates already made and levied, will be payable in one sum on the 11th December, 1950.
The valuation roll of the district is open for inspection at the office of the Collector of Rates, Room 8, First Floor, Government Buildings, Customs Street West, Auckland, and a copy of same may be inspected at the Land Drainage Office of the Ministry of Works at Thornton, near Whakatane, at all times at which those offices are open for the transaction of public business.
FIRST SCHEDULE
GENERAL RATES
CLASS A.—On the unimproved value of all lands classified as Class A by the arbitrators appointed under section 6 of the Rangitaiki Land Drainage Act, 1910, five pence and eighty-six one-hundredths of a penny (5.86d.) in the pound.
CLASS B.—On the unimproved value of all lands so classified as Class B, three pence and ninety-one one-hundredths of a penny (3.91d.) in the pound.
CLASS C.—On the unimproved value of all lands so classified as Class C, one penny and ninety-five one-hundredths of a penny (1.95d.) in the pound.
CLASS D.—On the unimproved value of all lands so classified as Class D, sixty-five one-hundredths of a penny (0.65d.) in the pound.
SECOND SCHEDULE
SPECIAL RATES
CLASS A.—On the unimproved value of all lands classified as Class A by the arbitrators appointed under section 6 of the Rangitaiki Land Drainage Act, 1910, four pence and fifty-two one-hundredths of a penny (4.52d.) in the pound.
CLASS B.—On the unimproved value of all lands so classified as Class B, three pence and one one-hundredth of a penny (3.01d.) in the pound.
CLASS C.—On the unimproved value of all lands so classified as Class C, one penny and fifty-one one-hundredths of a penny (1.51d.) in the pound.
CLASS D.—On the unimproved value of all lands so classified as Class D, fifty-one one-hundredths of a penny (0.51d.) in the pound.

Notice of Intention to Take Land in Block VIII, Rangitoto Survey District, for a Recreation-ground
NOTICE is hereby given that it is proposed, under the provisions of the Public Works Act, 1928, to take the land described in the Schedule hereto for a recreation-ground : And notice is hereby further given that the plan of the land required to be taken is deposited in the post-office at Orakei and is there open for inspection ; and that all persons affected by the taking of the said land should, if they have any well-grounded objections to the taking of such land, set forth the same in writing, and send such writing, within forty days from the first publication of this notice, to the Minister of Works at Wellington.
