Regulations Under the Naval Defence Act, 1913, Amended

HIS EXCELLENCY THE GOVERNOR-GENERAL IN COUNCIL
PURSUANT to section 25 of the Naval Defence Act, 1913, His Excellency the Governor-General, acting by and with the advice and consent of the Executive Council, doth hereby make the following regulations.
REGULATIONS
THE New Zealand Naval Regulations 1929* are hereby amended by inserting, after regulation 20,† the following regulation :—
“ 21. Deserters and Absentees.—A deserter or absentee from one of H.M.N.Z. ships who surrenders or is apprehended at any place outside New Zealand (other than Australia) is, until further orders to serve in a ship or establishment of the Royal Navy, if so directed by an order given by the Naval Board or by the senior New Zealand Naval Officer present, specifically naming him and the appropriate base ship of the Royal Navy in which he is to serve. A warrant under section 50 of the Naval Discipline Act is to be issued by one of the persons specified in that section before the issue of the order directing a deserter or absentee to serve in the appropriate base ship of the Royal Navy and is to be handed to the Royal Naval authorities together with extracts from the Ship’s Books, certified in accordance with King’s Regulations and Admiralty Instructions Article 461, recording that the offender had been serving in the ship at the material date, his absence, and his discharge.
“ 2. On apprehension or surrender at any place outside New Zealand a deserter or absentee who has been directed to serve in an appropriate base ship of the Royal Navy shall serve in that ship, or any other ship of the Royal Navy to which the Royal Navy authorities shall appoint him, and shall continue to do so until discharged therefrom by those authorities ”.

PURSUANT to section 167 of the Maori Land Act, 1931, His Excellency the Governor-General, acting by and with the advice and consent of the Executive Council, doth hereby vary an Order in Council made on the 4th day of April, 1932, and published in the Gazette on the 7th day of April, 1932, at page 735, and affecting Hauturu East B 2 Section 2A 1A and other blocks by excluding therefrom the lands described in the Schedule hereto.

Trustee for the Raurimu Public Cemetery Appointed

PURSUANT to section 4 of the Cemeteries Act, 1908, I, Lieutenant-General Sir Bernard Cyril Freyberg, the Governor-General of the Dominion of New Zealand, do hereby appoint
James Errol Gray
to be a trustee to have the maintenance and care of the cemetery under the said Act, known as the Raurimu Public Cemetery, in conjunction with such of the other persons heretofore so appointed as are still in office and in the place of Herbert Blackith Hill whose seat has become vacant by resignation.
As witness the hand of His Excellency the Governor-General, this 26th day of July, 1950.

Captain Arthur Edward Tolfrey Christie, O.B.E., D.S.C., R.N., lent Royal New Zealand Navy and appointed H.M.N.Z.S. “Maori”, additional, to date 15th August, 1950, H.M.N.Z.S. “Philomel”, additional, for passage to New Zealand (date to be reported), and H.M.N.Z.S. “Philomel” in command and as Naval Officer-in-Charge, Auckland, vice Duckworth (date to be reported).
Commander Leo Patrick Burke, O.B.E., D.S.C. and Bar, R.D., promoted to the rank of Captain, to date 30th June, 1950, and reappointed.
Douglas Brian Domett and Murray Charles Verran, entered as Naval Cadets (Executive) and appointed H.M.N.Z.S. “Maori”, additional, for passage to the United Kingdom, to date 7th July, 1950, and H.M.S. “Britannia”, additional, for training to date 1st September, 1950. (Pay accounts to be carried in H.M.N.Z.S. “Maori”.)
Surgeon Lieutenant (Acting Surgeon Lieutenant-Commander) John William Doupe, M.R.C.S., L.R.C.P., promoted to the rank of Surgeon Lieutenant-Commander, to date 11th July, 1950.
Campbell Munro Herbertson, entered as a Naval Cadet (Supply and Secretariat) and appointed H.M.N.Z.S. “Maori”, additional, for passage to the United Kingdom, and H.M.S. “Britannia”, additional, for training, to date 1st September, 1950. (Pay accounts to be carried in H.M.N.Z.S. “Maori”.)
Mr. Joseph Ivan Quinn, Temporary Acting Commissioned Boatswain, transferred to the permanent rank of Acting Commissioned Boatswain with seniority of 4th February, 1950.
