Notice of Intention to Assign Place Names by the New Zealand Geographical Board

Department of Lands and Survey, Wellington, 17th July, 1950.

PURSUANT to section 12 of the New Zealand Geographic Board Act, 1946, notice is hereby given of the intention of the New Zealand Geographic Board to assign the names set out in the first column of the Schedule hereto to the respective places and features set out and described opposite those names in the second and third columns of the said Schedule.

Pursuant to section 13 of the said Act, any person objecting to any such proposed name may at any time within the period of three months from the date of publication of this notice in the New Zealand Gazette give to the Secretary of the Board, care of the Lands and Survey Department, P.O. Box 3, Government Buildings, Wellington, notice in writing of his objection, setting out the grounds of the objection.

If no objection is received by the Board within the aforesaid period of three months the Board’s decision as to any of the said proposed names will be final.

Bledisloe Mount Block IV, Kawakawa Survey District.
Glinkes Gully Locality and telephone office Block V, Kopuru Survey District.
Mangawhai Survey district, town, parish, river, harbour, post-office, trig., &c. Mangawhai Survey District. Instead of Mangawai.
Maungataniwha Range Running from Kaipaua Trig. in Block XV, Takahue Survey District, through Raetea and Maungataniwha Trigs. to Fern Flat Road in Block VII, Maungataniwha Survey District.
Panguru Range Blocks V and XV, Whangape Survey District. Running from Panguru Peak through Moumoukai and Weka to Te Reinga Peak.
Puhau Lake, stream, and locality Block V, Hokianga Survey District. Instead of Puhau.
Raeroa Trig. Block XII, Waoku Survey District. Instead of Whakatere.
Ruatangata Railway-station Block VIII, Purua Survey District. Instead of “Ruatangata (Springs).”
Takanini Locality, railway-station, post-office Block XIV, Otahuhu Survey District. Adopted instead of Takaanini although both forms considered correct.
Te Mahia Railway-station Block XIV, Otahuhu Survey District. Instead of Mahia.
Tutamoe Range Blocks V, X, and XV, Tutamoe Survey District. Running from Tutamoe locality to Tutamoe Trig.
Whakatere Peak Block VII, Waoku Survey District. Approximately 140 chains north-east of Ngapukehaua Trig. (1,620 ft.)
SOUTH AUCKLAND LAND DISTRICT
Lichfield Railway-station Block XV, Patetere North Survey District.
Lynmore Post-office At Lewis’ Hill, Rotorua.
Moehau Range On Coromandel Peninsula. From Cape Colville to Waihi. Instead of Coromandel or Colville Range.
Pohaturoa Rock Near Atiamuri. Instead of Powhateroa.
Pomarangai Telephone office and stream Block II, Maungamangero Survey District. Instead of Pomarangei.
Tainui Cove Block I, Thames Survey District. Small cove immediately north of the northern boundary of the Borough of Thames.
Te Kauwhata Locality, railway-station, post-office, &c. Block XV, Rangiriri Survey District. Instead of Kauwhata.
Waitakaruru River Wharekawa and Piako Survey Districts. Description amended from “Stream” to avoid confusion with Waitakaruru Stream near Morrinsville.
GISBORNE LAND DISTRICT
Moutohora Locality, post-office, railway-station, trig., &c. Block II, Motu Survey District. Instead of Motuhora.
Waiotahe Locality, post-office, parish, river, &c. Opotiki Survey District. Instead of Waiotahi.
TARANAKI LAND DISTRICT
Waitoetoe Locality, post-office, river Waitara Survey District. Instead of Waitoitoi.
HAWKE’S BAY LAND DISTRICT
Apiti Saddle On main Ruahine Range near southern boundary of Block II, Norsewood Survey District. Instead of Cow Saddle.
Armstrong Saddle Block IX, Wakarara Survey District, and Block VIII, Ruahine Survey District (Wellington). Approximately 2 miles north-east of Te Atuaote-parapara Trig.
Black Ridge Blocks V and VII, Makaretu Survey District. Running south-easterly from Ohuinga Trig.
Bob Spur Block XIV, Ngaruroro Survey District. Running south from Three Fingers Trig.
Breakheart Peak Block III, Wakarara Survey District. Shown on maps as Trig. M (2,460 ft.).
Colenso Spur Block V, Wakarara Survey District. South-eastern off-shoot of range running easterly from Te Atua Mahuru Trig.
Crag Peak Block X, Wakarara Survey District. Approximately one mile south-east of Trig. I.
Daphne Ridge On Main Ruahine Range between Block VII, Makaretu Survey District, and Block III, Umutoi Survey District (Wellington).
Daphne Spur Block VII, Makaretu Survey District. Running easterly from Daphne Ridge to Thomsons Whare.
Desolation. Peak Block VII, Ngaruroro Survey District. Approximately 120 chains south-west of junction of Omahaki Stream and Ngaruroro River.
Donovan Gully Block X, Makaroro Survey District. South-east of Long Spur.
Duff Flat Blocks II and VI, Wakarara Survey District. Lying to north-east of Dutch Creek.
Dutch Creek Blocks V and VI, Wakarara Survey District. Northernmost tributary of Makaroro Stream.
Frying Pan Flat Block XV, Ngaruroro Survey District. Two miles south-east of Three Fingers Trig.
Gold Creek Block IX, Wakarara Survey District. Flowing north-easterly from point near Armstrong Saddle into Makaroro River.
Golden Crown Spur Block XIV, Ngaruroro Survey District. Approximately 120 chains south of Three Fingers Trig.
Government Spur Block VII, Makaretu Survey District. Running easterly from Black Ridge to Tukituki River.
Herrick Spur Blocks X and XI, Ngaruroro Survey District. Lying to south of Big Hill Stream.
Hinerua Ridge Block V, Makaretu Survey District. Running south-easterly thence north-easterly from Trig. 4.
