“Provided that if the claimant has incurred expenditure in replacing any such articles, a refund of the amount so expended may, subject to these regulations, be awarded to the personal representatives of the claimant.

“988. Where a claim for compensation under these regulations in respect of the loss of any article has been satisfied, whether by payment or by replacement, and that article is subsequently recovered, the officer or soldier concerned shall forthwith return to the Army Department any articles issued in replacement thereof or reimburse that Department with the value of the article so issued, or, as the case may be, refund the amount of compensation paid in respect of the article so recovered:

“Provided that, if the article so recovered is in a damaged condition, the officer or soldier may claim compensation in respect of that damage at any time within thirty days after the date of its recovery.

“989. The procedure to be followed in making a claim for compensation under these regulations, the information to be included in any such claim, the procedure by investigating officers on completion of their investigation of a claim, the method of assessment of compensation, whether by payment or by replacement, and the conditions to apply to the awarding and satisfaction of compensation, shall be as prescribed by Army Standing Orders.”

SICK LEAVE

  1. Regulation 636 of the principal regulations† is hereby amended by omitting the words “excluding soldiers of the Home Service Section”.

  2. Regulation 637 of the principal regulations† and the heading to that regulation are hereby revoked.

ARTILLERY SALUTES

  1. Regulation 802 of the principal regulations is hereby revoked.

HIS Excellency the Governor-General has been pleased to approve the following appointments in the Royal New Zealand Navy:—

Captain Frank Arthur Ballance, D.S.O., R.N., lent Royal New Zealand Navy, to date 15th May, 1950, and appointed H.M.N.Z.S. “Philomel II”, additional for passage (date to be reported). To be First Naval Member and Chief of Naval Staff, New Zealand Naval Board, in succession to Captain (Commodore Second Class) G. W. G. Simpson, C.B.E., R.N. (to serve in the rank of Commodore Second Class whilst holding this appointment).

Lieutenant-Commander Percival John Stoner, D.S.C., R.N. (Retired), entered in the Royal New Zealand Navy in the rank of Lieutenant-Commander (Short-service Commission) with seniority of 2nd July, 1944, and appointed H.M.N.Z.S. “Philomel”, additional, to date 1st May, 1950, and H.M.N.Z.S. “Philomel II”, additional, for duty as Instructor Officer to the Wellington Division, Royal New Zealand Naval Volunteer Reserve, to date 8th May, 1950.

Lieutenant William Joseph Brown, promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander, to date 17th April, 1950.

Lieutenant (E) Frank Baldwin, D.S.C., R.N., lent Royal New Zealand Navy, to date 31st March, 1950, and appointed H.M.N.Z.S. “Philomel”, additional, for passage (date to be reported).

Lieutenant (E) John Clear Harrison, B.Eng.(Mech.), R.N.Z.N.V.R., entered in the Royal New Zealand Navy in the rank of Lieutenant (E) (Short-service Commission) with seniority of 20th June, 1949, to date 11th April, 1950, and appointed H.M.N.Z.S. “Philomel”, additional, to date 12th April, 1950.

Probationary Surgeon Lieutenant (D) Thomas Hugh Hamilton Murray, B.D.S., confirmed in rank with original seniority of 22nd July, 1943, and appointed H.M.N.Z.S. “Bellona” (Temporary), to date 3rd May, 1950.

Mr. Ronald Edward Ansley, Temporary Commissioned Electrical Officer (L), promoted to the rank of Commissioned Electrical Officer (L) with seniority of 3rd September, 1949, and reappointed, to date 6th April, 1950.
