(b) Skilled Labourer—For the purposes of this Order a skilled labourer shall be deemed to be a worker who possesses and uses a degree of skill, derived from partial artisan training or extra experience, which is not possessed by or required of an ordinary labourer.
(c) A worker while employed as an assistant on a tug or launch shall be paid at not less than deckhand’s rate, with a minimum of two hours at the rate appropriate to the time.
(d) A worker (other than a leading hand) required to attend to overseas vessels outside normal working hours shall be paid at skilled labourer’s rate while so employed.
(e) A worker while employed as a cook or steward on a vessel required to steam to another port shall be paid at not less than deckhand’s rate.
(f) Every worker shall be paid the appropriate rate for the classification of work upon which he is usually employed, provided that where a worker is required to perform work carrying a rate of wages higher than the worker’s usual rate, he shall be paid such higher rate while so employed. Where the worker at his own request is employed on work attracting a rate of wages lower than the worker’s usual rate, he shall be paid at such lower rate while so employed.
ALLOWANCES
- (a) Explosives.—A worker while loading or unloading explosives to or from a depot magazine shall be paid an allowance of 2s. a day.
(b) Gumboots.—A worker shall be paid an allowance of 1s. 6d. for every working-day on which he is required to wear gumboots for not less than four hours.
(c) Tool.—A tradesman, provided he has worked not less than three days of the working week at his trade and possesses sufficient privately-owned tools of trade to carry out all phases of his work efficiently, shall be paid tool allowance as follows:—

(d) Welding.—A worker employed on oxy-acetylene or electric welding (except on spot, stud, or butt welding machine) for less than four hours a day shall be paid an allowance of 1s. 3d. for that day, or when so employed for not less than four hours a day shall be paid an allowance of 2s. for that day.
(e) Dirty Work :—
(i) Time worked by a worker while employed on any of the following types of work shall be paid for at one-quarter of ordinary time rate in addition to the rate appropriate to the time—
(a) Inside and under boilers.
(b) Inside tanks and pockets.
(c) Beneath engine-room or boiler-room plates, backends, furnaces, crank-pits, and up-takes.
(d) Cleaning boiler-tubes, smoke-boxes, or bilges.
(e) Plaster lagging of boilers or steam pipes.
(f) Work with tar or preservative emulsions.
(g) Inside bunkers, chain lockers, hoppers, or chutes during survey inspections or overhauls.
