Position : Cape Reinga. Lat., 34° 25' 5 S.; long. 172° 40'.5 E. (approx.).

Details : The master of the M.V. “Kaitoke” reports having obtained soundings of 23 fathoms 258°, 45 miles from the above position. The locality will be examined when circumstances permit.

NEW ZEALAND.—SOUTH ISLAND.—LYTTELTON

Diamond Harbour : Fresh-water Supply

Position : Fixed red light on Gladstone Pier. Lat., 43° 36'.6 S; long., 172° 43' E. (approx.).

Details : A fresh-water pipe line is being laid on the harbour bed from a point 258° 2,240 ft. from the above position running in a 153° direction, passing about 450 ft. westward of the red leading beacon, measured on a line joining the two beacons, and striking the southern shore at a point between Church Bay and Diamond Harbour. Vessels are warned not to anchor in this vicinity.

Notice to Mariners No. 22 of 1950

NEW ZEALAND.—SOUTH ISLAND.—OTAGO HARBOUR

Lighted Leading Beacons

Position : Rear leading beacon. Lat., 45° 47'S.; long., 170° 42'.8 E. (approx.).

Details : A temporary light flashing red 0·3 seconds flash 1·0 seconds eclipse, visible 3 miles, has been installed on a small, white triangular beacon 200 ft. eastward of the rear leading beacon above, and when in transit with the front leading beacon, crosses the position of the mole end buoy which broke adrift on 16th December, 1949, and further to seaward indicates the 30 ft. contour on the western edge of the entrance channel. A small, black flat-topped beacon (unlighted) 100 ft. to the westward of the rear leading beacon above when in transit with the front leading beacon similarly marks the 30 ft. contour on the eastern edge of the entrance channel.
