Officers Authorized to Take and Receive Statutory Declarations

Pursuant to the authority conferred upon me by the three-hundred-and-first section of the Justices of the Peace Act, 1927, I, Lieutenant-General Sir Bernard Cyril Freyberg, the Governor-General of the Dominion of New Zealand, do hereby notify and declare that the persons whose names are set out in the Schedule hereto, being officers in the service of the Crown holding the offices stated opposite their names respectively in the said Schedule, are authorized to take and receive statutory declarations under the three-hundred-and-first section of the Justices of the Peace Act, 1927.

Appointing the Transport Charges Appeal Authority Under the Transport Act, 1949

In pursuance and exercise of the powers conferred on him by the Transport Act, 1949, His Excellency the Governor-General doth hereby appoint

His Honour Judge Kendrick Gee Archer, of Wellington, to be the Transport Charges Appeal Authority for a term commencing on the first day of January, one thousand nine hundred and fifty, and expiring on the thirty-first day of December, one thousand nine hundred and fifty.

As witness the hand of His Excellency the Governor-General, this 15th day of December, 1949.

Authorizing the Franklin County Council to Sell Timber Upon Portion of McKenzies Access Road in the Franklin County

Pursuant to section one hundred and forty of the Public Works Act, 1928, I, Lieutenant-General Sir Bernard Cyril Freyberg, the Governor-General of the Dominion of New Zealand, do hereby authorize the Franklin County Council to sell or contract to sell and remove timber upon portion of McKenzies access road adjoining parts of middle portion of Allotment 37, Parish of Awhitu, part north-eastern portion of Allotment 99, Parish of Awhitu, eastern portion of Allotment 37, Parish of Awhitu, and south-western portion of Allotment 99, Parish of Awhitu. As the same is more particularly delineated on the plan marked P.W.D. 130480, deposited in the office of the Minister of Works at Wellington.

As witness the hand of His Excellency the Governor-General, this 21st day of December, 1949.

Appointments in the Royal New Zealand Navy

His Excellency the Governor-General has been pleased to approve the following appointments in the Royal New Zealand Navy :-

Lieutenant-Commander James Frederick Allan O'Neill, D.S.C., appointed H.M.N.Z.S. 'Philomel,' additional, in continuation, as Commander of the Yard and Deputy Superintendent of H.M.N.Z. Dockyard, Auckland, and King's Harbour Master, Auckland, to date 30th September, 1949.

Lieutenant Graham Herbert McIntosh, R.A.N., lent to the Royal New Zealand Navy, and appointed H.M.A.S. 'Leeuwin,' additional for 'Lachlan' as Hydrographer third class, to date 8th August, 1949, and H.M.N.Z.S. 'Lachlan' on commissioning as Hydrographer third class, to date 5th October, 1949.

Lieutenant Noel Lindsay Sanderson, R.A.N., lent to the Royal New Zealand Navy and appointed H.M.A.S. 'Leeuwin,' additional, for 'Lachlan' as Hydrographer third class, to date 29th September, 1949, and H.M.N.Z.S. 'Lachlan' on commissioning as Hydrographer third class, to date 5th October, 1949.

Sub-Lieutenant Berkeley Francis Goddard, promoted to the rank of Lieutenant and re-appointed, to date lst November, 1949.

Sub-Lieutenant John Dennis Gresson, promoted to the rank of Lieutenant and re-appointed, to date 16th November, 1949.

John Burton, entered as a Naval Cadet (Engineering), and appointed H.M.N.Z.S. 'Maori' additional for passage to the United Kingdom, to date 15th November, 1949, and H.M.S. 'Britannia' for training, to date 1st January, 1950. (Pay accounts to be carried in H.M.N.Z.S. 'Maori.')

Reverend Wilmot Rodd Castle, Probationary Chaplain, confirmed in rank with original seniority of 20th September, 1941.

Probationary Surgeon Lieutenant William Doupe, M.R.C.S., L.R.C.P., confirmed in rank with original seniority of llth July, 1942.

Commander (S) James Golden Batchelor, R.N., lent to the Royal New Zealand Navy, and appointed H.M.N.Z.S. 'Maori,' additional, to date 15th November, 1949, and H.M.N.Z.S. 'Philomel,' additional, for passage. (Date to be reported.)

Acting Sub-Lieutenant (S) Eric Robinson Ellison, confirmed in rank with original seniority of lst September, 1948, and re-appointed, to date 25th July, 1949.

Mr. Roy Ernest Ansley, Senior Commissioned Gunner (T), transferred to the rank of Senior Commissioned Gunner (T.A.S.), to date 30th September, 1949, with original seniority of lst June, 1945.

Mr. Trevor Harry Wickman, Temporary Acting Commissioned Gunner, confirmed in rank with original seniority of 15th October, 1948.

Mr. Marshall White Hay, Temporary Acting Commissioned Communications Officer, confirmed in rank with original seniority of 15th October, 1948.
