HIS Excellency the Governor-General has been pleased to
approve of the following appointments, promotions, transfers,
resignations, relinquishments of commissions, and retirements of
officers of the New Zealand Military Forces:—
THE ROYAL N.Z. ARTILLERY
Territorial Force—
Major B. G. MacAvoy, from the Retired List, to be Major, with
seniority from 4th September, 1947, is posted to the 3rd Field
Regiment, R.N.Z.A., and seconded to the Staff Officer Pool. Dated
1st December, 1948.
Temp. Captain W. G. Hardcastle ceases to be posted to the
1st Field Regiment, R.N.Z.A., and is posted to the 61st Light
Anti-Aircraft Battery, 6th Anti-Aircraft Regiment, R.N.Z.A., with
the rank of Captain, with seniority from 26th April, 1942. Dated
1st December, 1948.
Temp. Captain I. J. D. Mackay, from the Reserve of Officers,
Supplementary List, to be Captain, with seniority from 19th May,
1948, and is posted to the 14th Composite Anti-Aircraft Regiment,
R.N.Z.A. Dated 1st December, 1948.
Temp. Lieutenant J. T. Wickham, from the Reserve of Officers,
Supplementary List, to be Lieutenant, with seniority from 8th
September, 1947, and is posted to the 14th Composite Anti-Aircraft
Regiment, R.N.Z.A. Dated 1st December, 1948.
Lieutenant I. R. Johnson, 15th Composite Anti-Aircraft Regiment, R.N.Z.A., is transferred to the Reserve of Officers, Regimental
List, 15th Composite Anti-Aircraft Regiment, R.N.Z.A., with the
rank of Lieutenant, with seniority from 3rd June, 1947. Dated
27th October, 1949.
THE ROYAL N.Z. ARMOURED CORPS
Territorial Force—
With reference to the notice published in the N.Z. Gazette
No. 58, dated 6th October, 1949, relative to the appointment of
Lieutenant H. C. L. Ross, for “to be Lieutenant with seniority
from 24th October, 1947,” substitute “to be Captain, with seniority
from 24th October, 1947.”
Temp. Captain H. B. L. Johnstone, 3rd Armoured Regiment,
R.N.Z.A.C., resigns his commission. Dated 20th October, 1949.
Temp. 2nd Lieutenant J. A. Sinclair, 1st Armoured Regiment,
R.N.Z.A.C. (Waikato), is transferred to the 1st Divisional Regiment, R.N.Z.A.C. (New Zealand Scottish), with the rank of 2nd
Lieutenant, with seniority from 24th July, 1944. Dated 1st
December, 1948.
THE ROYAL N.Z. INFANTRY CORPS
Regular Force—
N.Z. Regiment—
Major R. B. Dawson, D.S.O., to be Temp. Lieutenant-Colonel on
assuming the appointment of Director, Staff Duties, Army Headquarters. Dated 1st November, 1949.
Territorial Force—
The Hauraki Regiment—
2nd Lieutenant (on prob.) H. G. Sparks ceases to be seconded to
the Te Aroha District High School Cadets, Area 2, and resigns his
commission. Dated 6th September, 1949.
The Waikato Regiment (disbanded)—
Temp. Captain W. J. Dick, 1st Battalion, is posted to the
Retired List with the rank of Captain. Dated 18th October, 1949.
The Wellington Regiment (City of Wellington’s Own)—
Major C. C. Johansen, from the Reserve of Officers, Regimental
List, The Wellington Regiment (City of Wellington’s Own), to be
Major, with seniority from 10th June, 1944, and is posted to the
1st Battalion. Dated 25th October, 1949.
Major T. G. Bedding, E.D., from the Reserve of Officers,
Regimental List, The Wellington Regiment (City of Wellington’s
Own), to be Major, with seniority from 1st July, 1944, and is posted

Major N. K. Sanders, from the Reserve of Officers, Regimental

Captain F. M. Stewart, M.C., from the Reserve of Officers,

Regular Force—
Captain F. A. Gunn is granted an extension of his short-service
commission for a further period of three years as from 1st April,
1950.
David Eric Clenyg-Jones (late Major, British Army), to be
Temp. Captain (on prob.) and is appointed O.C., A and G Section,
Northern District Workshops, Papakura Camp. Dated 15th October,
1949.
Territorial Force—
Major E. W. I. Meyer, from the Reserve of Officers, Regimental
List, The Royal N.Z. Electrical and Mechanical Engineers, to be
