.02 In addition to the above rates a continuing allowance for ship-work of ½d. an hour shall be paid to all workers at H.M.N.Z. Dockyard, Auckland (including the armament depot and naval stores).

.03 Any worker who immediately prior to the commencement of this Order was paid at a mean hourly rate greater than the appropriate rate provided in subclause .01 above (together with the allowance for shipwork) shall continue to be paid by way of an allowance the difference between such mean hourly rate and the appropriate rate (together with the shipwork allowance) now provided.

.04 Tradesman.—For the purposes of this Order a tradesman shall be deemed to be a worker employed as such who has served a proper apprenticeship to any of the trades listed below, or who has clearly demonstrated his competency in such trade :—

Blacksmith Moulder
Boilermaker Painter
Bricklayer Patternmaker
Canvasworker Plumber
Carpenter and joiner Rigger
Coppersmith Sailmaker
Electrical fitter Sheet-metal worker
Electrician Shipwright
Fitter and turner Toolmaker.
Machinist, 1st Class

.05 Skilled Labourer.—For the purposes of this Order a skilled labourer shall be deemed to be a worker who possesses and uses a degree of skill, derived from partial artisan training or extra experience, which is not possessed by or required of an ordinary labourer.

8. ALLOWANCES

In addition to the rate of pay appropriate to the time at which the work is performed, allowances as prescribed hereunder shall be paid to workers required to work under the conditions listed :—

.02 Leading Hand 10s. a week Selected workers Working leading hands may be appointed by the Department and shall be paid the prescribed allowance during the term of their appointment.
.03 Charge—
.031 2s. a day.. Any worker other than a leading hand While acting temporarily in charge of six or more workers other than himself.
.032 2d. an hour Any worker other than a leading hand While acting temporarily in charge of less than six workers other than himself.
.04 Sole Tradesman 2d. an hour Tradesmen only While working as the only one of his trade in the Dockyard or other establishment.
.05 Tool and/or 1d. an hour Electrician.
Overall 1½d. an hour Plumber.
2d. and hour Shipwright or Boatbuilder.
2d. an hour Joiner
Patternmaker, Toolmaker, Fitter and/or Provided that three full days are worked during the week.
Turner, or 1st Class Machinist when required
to supply own tools
2s. a week Any worker .. While working in a Yarrow boiler on repair work.
.06 Boiler Repair Half ordinary
Work time rate Any worker .. While working in a boiler (other than a Yarrow boiler), on repair work.
1s. an hour Any worker ..
