Second Grade : A worker experienced in knots and lashings, assembling
and erecting tackle, splicing of wire and hemp ropes, erection of
gin poles, masts, towers, cranes, sheers, and derricks. He must
be able to rig gear (including lifting tackle, anchors, guys, and the
like) to take heavy lifts, and place them in position.

(o) Steel-ereetor.—A worker skilled and experienced in fitting,
ereeting, and bolting together structural steel-work on bridges, viaducts,
and other steel structures.

(p) Surfaceman.—An experienced highway and road maintenance
worker who is fully dependable in dealing with minor emergencies incidental
to maintenance.

(q) Surfaceman, Senior.—A surfaceman, selected for his experience
and reliability, who works independently and in charge of the maintenance
of a length of road or highway.

(r) Surfaceman, Head.—An experienced surfaceman who possesses
a sound practical knowledge of road and highway maintenance and who is
regularly in charge of at least one other worker.

(s) Tar Sprayer :—

First Grade : A worker who has performed the duties of a tar sprayer
for not less than a year and, under test, is capable of spraying
tar and bituminous products uniformly and always within 10 per
cent. of the specified rate of application.

Second Grade : A worker who possesses a limited knowledge of tar
spraying and a lesser degree of skill than that required of a first
grade tar sprayer.

(t) Tradesman :—

First Grade : A worker who is able to set out and complete speedily
and efficiently any and every kind of work within his trade.

Second Grade : A worker who by reason of incomplete training or
limited skill or experience is capable of performing satisfactorily
only a limited range of work within his trade, but possessing more
skill and technical knowledge than a handyman.

(u) Welder :—

First Grade : A worker who has satisfied the requirements of the
Works Department's complete arc-welding tests and possesses
a sound knowledge of gas welding and cutting.

Second Grade : A worker capable of performing gas welding and
cutting, and down-hand arc-welding.

10. WAGES

(a) The following rates of wages shall be payable :—
