Officers Authorized to Take and Receive Statutory Declarations

P URSUANT to the authority conferred upon me by the three-hundred-and-first section of the Justices of the Peace Act, 1927, I, Lieutenant-General Sir Bernard Cyril Freyberg, the Governor-General of the Dominion of New Zealand, do hereby notify and declare that the persons whose names are set out in the Schedule hereto, being officers in the service of the Crown holding the offices stated opposite their names respectively in the said Schedule, are authorized to take and receive statutory declarations under the three-hundred-and-first section of the Justices of the Peace Act, 1927.

Member of Tobacco Board Appointed

IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities conferred by section 3 (1) and section 5 (2) of the Tobacco-growing Industry Act, 1935, I, Bernard Cyril Freyberg, the Governor-General of the Dominion of New Zealand do hereby appoint Thomas Frederick Varley as representative of the manufacturers in the stead of Frederick Edward John Jeffcott, deceased.
As witness the hand of His Excellency the Governor-General of the Dominion of New Zealand, this 30th day of April, 1949.

Notifying the Proposed Exchange of Crown Land in the Nelson Land District for Other Land

WHEREAS by section sixty-one of the Land Act, 1948, it is enacted that the Governor-General may, in any case where he deems it expedient in the public interest to do so, grant in fee-simple any area of Crown land in exchange for the fee-simple of any other land, and on any such exchange the Land Settlement Board may pay or receive any sum by way of equality of exchange :
And whereas, in the opinion of the Governor-General, it is expedient to exchange the Crown land described in the First Schedule hereto for the land described in the Second Schedule hereto, and the owner of the land described in the Second Schedule has agreed to such exchange:
Now, therefore, His Excellency the Governor-General of the Dominion of New Zealand, in exercise of the aforesaid powers and authorities, doth hereby declare it is his intention to grant in fee-simple the area of Crown land described in the First Schedule hereto in exchange for the fee-simple of the land described in the Second Schedule.

DESCRIPTION OF LAND AUTHORIZED TO BE EXCHANGED
Nelson Land District
SECTION 57, Town of Buller, situated in Block V, Inangahua Survey District : Area, 2·1 perches, more or less.
SECOND SCHEDULE
DESCRIPTION OF LAND TO BE OBTAINED IN EXCHANGE
Nelson Land District
ALL that area containing by admeasurement 7·9 perches, more or less, being part of Section 48, Block V, Inangahua Survey District, and being all the land bordered green on plan No. 3943, deposited in the Office of the District Land Registrar at Nelson; as the same is more particularly delineated on the plan marked 9/2197, deposited in the Head Office, Department of Lands and Survey at Wellington, and thereon bordered red.
As witness the hand of His Excellency the Governor-General, this 27th day of April, 1949.

Temp. Captain E. R. Smythe, M.C., from the Reserve of Officers, Supplementary List, to be Captain, with seniority from 8th December, 1947, and is posted to the 3rd Field Regiment, R.N.Z.A. Dated lst December, 1948.
THE ROYAL N.Z. ARMOURED CORPS
Regular Force-
Lieutenant-Colonel (temp. Colonel) C. L. Pleasants, D.S.O., M.C., E.D., relinquishes the appointments of Camp Commandant, and Commandant, Royal N.Z. Armoured Corps School, Waiouru Camp, and is seconded to the Fiji Military Forces. Dated 28th March, 1949.
Captain (temp. Major) H. A. Purcell, D.S.O., is appointed Camp Commandant, and Commandant, Royal N.Z. Armoured Corps School, Waiouru Camp. Dated 28th March, 1949.
Captain R. J. Abbott to be temp. Major. Dated 23rd February, 1949.

Major L. C. E. Malt, D.S.O., from the Retired List, to be Major, with seniority from 11th April, 1947, and is appointed 2 i/c, lst Field Engineer Regiment, R.N.Z.E. Dated 1st December, 1948.
Temp. Captain J. A. Goodsir, M.C., A.M.N.Z.I.E., A.M.I.C.E., lst Field Squadron, R.N.Z.E., to be Major, with seniority from 6th March, 1947, and is appointed O.C., 1st Field Squadron, R.N.Z.E. Dated 1st December, 1948.

N.Z. Regiment-
Sergeant Douglas Ramsay Hay, M.A., Dip. Ed., is granted a short-service commission for a period of two years as from 8th April, 1949, in the rank of Lieutenant, with seniority from 1st October, 1946, and is appointed Education Officer (temp.), A.E.W.S. Wing, the Army School, Trentham. Dated 8th April, 1949.

2nd Lieutenant (on prob.) O. L. D. Claridge ceases to be seconded to the Northland College Cadets, Area 3, and resigns his commission. Dated 4th April, 1949.
