- That the election notified by the Returning Officer in the
Gazette of the thirteenth day of January, one thousand nine hundred
and forty-nine, at page 31, of the said Claude Eric James and the
said Ronald William Sansom to represent the Greymouth Urban Area
on the Canterbury Education Board shall be valid to all intents and
purposes as though such election had been held at the proper time in
one thousand nine hundred and forty-eight, and shall not be called
in question by reason only of the time at which such election was
held.

ORDER IN COUNCIL
At the Government Buildings at Wellington, this 30th day of
March, 1949
Present:
THE RIGHT HON. P. FRASER PRESIDING IN COUNCIL
PURSUANT to section five of the Maori Purposes Act, 1937,
His Excellency the Governor-General, acting by and with
the advice and consent of the Executive Council, doth hereby set
apart and reserve the Maori freehold land described in the Schedule
hereto as a Maori reservation for the common use of the owners
thereof as a marae and meeting-place.

Notifying the Proposed Exchange of Crown Land in the Auckland
Land District for Other Land

WHEREAS by section one hundred and sixty of the Land Act,
1924, it is enacted that it shall be lawful for the Governor-
General, whenever he deems it expedient in the public interest,
to grant in fee-simple any area of Crown land which is subject to
the provisions of the Land Act, 1924, in exchange for the fee-simple
of any other land, and on any such exchange to pay or receive any
sum by way of equality of exchange:
And whereas in the opinion of the Governor-General it is
expedient to exchange the Crown land described in the First
Schedule hereto for the land described in the Second Schedule
hereto, and the owner of the land described in the Second Schedule
has agreed to such exchange, and has agreed to pay to the Crown
a sum of money by way of equality of exchange:
Now, therefore, His Excellency the Governor-General of the
Dominion of New Zealand, in exercise of the aforesaid powers and
authorities, doth hereby declare it is his intention to grant in fee-
simple the area of Crown land described in the First Schedule
hereto in exchange for the fee-simple of the land described in the
Second Schedule upon payment by the owner thereof of the sum
of money hereinbefore referred to by way of equality of exchange.
FIRST SCHEDULE
DESCRIPTION OF LAND AUTHORIZED TO BE EXCHANGED
Auckland Land District
ALL that area in the County of Whakatane containing by admeasurement 163 acres and 1 rood, more or less, being Section 4, Block X,
Ahikereru Survey District. As the same is more particularly
delineated on the plan marked L. and S. 22/697A, deposited in the
Head Office, Department of Lands and Survey, at Wellington,
and thereon edged blue (Auckland Plan S.O. 33158.)
SECOND SCHEDULE
DESCRIPTION OF LAND TO BE OBTAINED IN EXCHANGE THEREFOR
Auckland Land District
ALL that area in the County of Whakatane containing by admeasurement 37 acres 1 rood and 20 perches, more or less, being part of
Section 3, Block X, Ahikereru Survey District, and being part of
the land comprised and described in Certificate of Title, Volume 674,
folio 26, Auckland Registry. As the same is more particularly
delineated on the plan marked L. and S. 22/697A, deposited in
the Head Office, Department of Lands and Survey, at Wellington,
and thereon edged red. (Auckland Plan S.O. 33158.)
As witness the hand of His Excellency the Governor-General,
this 29th day of March, 1949.

Land Permanently Reserved in the Canterbury Land District

WHEREAS by the three-hundred-and-fifty-ninth section of the
Land Act, 1924, it is enacted that the Governor-General
may from time to time set apart temporarily as reserves, notwithstanding that the same may be then held under pastoral licence,
any Crown lands which in his opinion are required for any of the
purposes in the said section mentioned :
And whereas by the three-hundred-and-sixtieth section of the
said Act it is provided that land temporarily reserved under the said
three-hundred-and-fifty-ninth section may, at the expiration of one
month, but not later than six months, after the publication in the
Gazette of notice of such temporary reservation, be permanently
reserved, and that notice of such permanent reservation shall be
published in the Gazette :
And whereas the land described in the Schedule hereto was, by
the Warrant dated the thirteenth day of December, one thousand
nine hundred and forty-eight, and published in the Gazette of the
sixteenth day of that month, temporarily reserved under the
authority of the said Act for a site for county buildings :
Now, therefore, I, Lieutenant-General Sir Bernard Cyril Frey-
berg, the Governor-General of the Dominion of New Zealand, in
pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities conferred
upon me by the said Act, do hereby permanently reserve the land
described in the Schedule hereto for a site for county buildings :
for which purpose the said land was so temporarily reserved as
aforesaid.
SCHEDULE
CANTERBURY LAND DISTRICT
RESERVE 4543 (formerly Lot 1, D.P. 13756, being part Rural
Section 93), Block V, Pigeon Bay Survey District : Area, 1 rood
9ยท6 perches, more or less.
As witness the hand of His Excellency the Governor-General,
this 29th day of March, 1949.

Appointing a Member of the Otago Harbour Board

IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities conferred
upon me by the Harbours Act, 1923, I, Lieutenant-General
Sir Bernard Cyril Freyberg, the Governor-General of the Dominion
of New Zealand, do hereby appointโ
William Partridge
to be a member of the Otago Harbour Board as a representative
of the electors of the county of Vincent, and of the boroughs of
Alexandra and Cromwell.
As witness the hand of His Excellency the Governor-General

Major J. L. Coombes, from the Reserve of Officers, Supple-
mentary List, is granted a short-service commission for a period of
three years as from 1st March, 1949, in the rank of Captain, with
seniority from 1st March, 1949, and is appointed Army Stores
Auditor, Northern Military District, Auckland. Dated 1st March,
1949.
Territorial Force-
The Auckland Regiment (Countess of Ranfurly's Own)-
Lieutenant-Colonel C. F. Seaward, D.S.O., M.C., E.D., Retired
List, is appointed Colonel of the Regiment. Dated 1st January
1949.
The North Auckland Regiment-
Lieutenant (temp. Captain) L. J. Smith ceases to be seconded
to the Dargaville District High School Cadets and is posted to the
Retired List with the rank of Captain. Dated 7th March, 1949.
