Notice of Final Decision of New Zealand Geographic Board
re Assigning of Place Names

Department of Lands and Survey,
Wellington, 23rd March, 1949.

WHEREAS pursuant to section 12 of the New Zealand Geographic Board Act, 1946, notices were given on the 18th day of December, 1947, and the 25th day of November, 1948, of the intention of the New Zealand Geographic Board to assign certain names set out in the first columns of the Schedules attached to the said notices to the respective places and features set out and described opposite those names in the second and third columns of the said Schedules :

And whereas pursuant to section 13 (1) of the said Act no objections have been received to such of the proposed names as are set out in the first column of the Schedule hereto :

Now, therefore, in pursuance of section 15 of the said Act, notice is hereby given that on and after the 25th day of May, 1949, there shall be assigned the names set out in the first column of the Schedule hereto to the respective places and features set out and described opposite those names in the second and third columns of the said Schedule.

Cape Brett Telephone office Block XIIA, Bay of Islands Survey District.
Haumi River Block VIII, Kawakawa Survey District. Not “Humai.”
Hobson Hill Block IV, Kawakawa Survey District.
Horeke Locality Block XI, Mangamuka Survey District. Not “Horoeko.”
Korakonui Creek Block X, Houhora Survey District. Instead of Koro-konui.
Kumete Bluff Trig. Block XI, Hukatere Survey District.
Ngapuketaurite Locality Block I, Rangaunu Survey District. Instead of Nga-puketaurete.
Paua Telephone office Block III, Muriwhenua Survey District. Replaces Parenga.
Pukeangihau Trig. Block XI, Houhora Survey District. Instead of Puke-hangihau.
Purewa Railway-station On the Tamaki Deviation near the Oraki Basin, Auckland City. This name is transferred to new station 40 chains west of previous position.
Roranui Post-office Block IV, Waoku Survey District.
Ruthe Passage Block VIII, Waiheke Survey District. Between Rotoroa and Ponui Islands.
Stony Batter Trig. Block IV, Waiheke Survey District. Not “Stony Batten.”
Waiharera Creek Block IV, Rangaunu Survey District. Instead of Wai-harara.
Whitiora Pa Locality Block IV, Kerikeri Survey District.

Canaan Landing Block III, Maketu Survey District. Maori version Kenana.
Hinemaiaia Stream Blocks I, II, and IV, Waitahanui Survey District.
Kuhatahi Stream Block VIII, Patetere North Survey District.
Mangakino Post-office Block VI, Whakamaru Survey District.
Mangorewa River Rotorua and Maketu Survey Districts. Paraiti formerly used as alternative name.
Maniakaroa Post-office Block XI, Hurakia Survey District.
Minginui Township Block XIII, Ahikereru Survey District.
Minginui Forest Post-office Block XIII, Ahikereru Survey District. Serves Minginui Township.
Motuoapa Peninsula, trig., and bay Block III, Tokaanu Survey District. In Lake Taupo.
Pipikarihi Stream Block IV, Rotorua Survey District. Tributary of Mangorewa River.
Tataweka Island Block XIIIA, Coromandel Survey District. Smaller of two islands at entrance to Manaia Harbour.

Waihou River Official name for river rising in Block XII, Patetere North Survey District, and flowing through Te Aroha and Pae-roa Townships into the Firth of Thames.
Waimata Stream Blocks XI and XV, Rotoiti Survey District. Flows into Lake Rotokawau.
Waiomu Locality and stream Block XIV, Hastings Survey District.
Waiowhiro Stream Block XVI, Rotorua Survey District.
Wekarua Island Block XIIIA, Coromandel Survey District. Larger of two islands at entrance to Manaia Harbour.
Whatitirinui Island Block XIII, Whaingaroa Survey District. In Raglan Harbour. Instead of Wata-tounui.

Maraetaha Railway-station Block I, Paritu Survey District. Replaces name Wharerata.

Stratford Mountain House Telephone office Block XV, Egmont Survey District. Replaces Potaema as postal description.
WELLINGTON LAND DISTRICT
Cape Palliser Telephone office Block IX, Kaiwaka Survey District.
Castlepoint Post-office and locality Block X, Castlepoint Survey District.
Mangatarere Stream Tiffen Survey District.
Mokopuna Island North of Somes Island, Port Nicholson. Replaces Leper.
Mowhanau Post-office Block XV, Nukumaru Survey District. Formerly Kai Iwi Beach.
Ngamatea East Swamp Block I, Taumata Survey District, and Block XIII, Horotea Survey District.
