THE following Register of Teachers is issued under the authority
of the Minister of Education in accordance with the provisions
of the Education Amendment Act, 1924.

The Register contains the names of the following persons :—
(a) Every person who was permanently employed as a teacher
as at 31st October, 1948.
(b) Every person who though not permanently employed at
31st October, 1948, had been employed within the previous
two years and has applied to have his name retained in
the Register.

The Register gives the following information :—
Column (1) shows the position held in the school :
Column (2) the district in which employed :
Column (3) the class of certificate held :
Column (4) the 1949 grading :
Column (5) the 1950 grading.

The 1950 grading is not effective until 1st February, 1950, and
cannot be used in any application for a position made before that
date.

Abbreviations used are : H = head teacher ; S = sole teacher ;
A = assistant teacher ; Sup = supernumerary teacher ; nom =
nominal supernumerary teacher ; PA = probationary assistant ;
RH = relieving head teacher ; RS = relieving sole teacher ; RA =
relieving assistant ; Spec = specialist ; AO = area organizer ;
AAO = assistant area organizer ; A = Auckland district ; T =
Taranaki district ; Wa = Wanganui district ; HB = Hawkes Bay
district ; We = Wellington district ; N = Nelson district ; C =
Canterbury district ; O = Otago district ; S = Southland district ;
MS = Maori Schools ; Sam = Samoa ; C Is = Cook Islands ;
Ch Is = Chatham Islands.

Where asterisks are shown under the grading columns against the
name of a head teacher this indicates that the teacher has applied
not to be graded under Regulation 15.

Appeals.—Appeals against grading must be lodged with the
Acting Director of Education, Wellington C.1, or the District
Superintendent of Education, Private Bag, Newmarket, Auckland
S.1, within forty days of the date of publication of this Register.
