The Standards Act, 1941.—Specification Declared to be a Standard Specification

NOTICE is hereby given that on 24th September, 1948, the undermentioned specification was declared to be a standard specification by the Minister of Industries and Commerce pursuant to section 8 of the Standards Act, 1941 :—

N.Z.S.S. 599 : Electric Kettles and Jugs with Metallic Bodies.

Honey Marketing Committee Election

PURSUANT to clause 13 of the Schedule to the Honey Marketing Committee Regulations 1948, notice is hereby given that the roll of those persons deemed eligible to vote for the election of producers’ representatives to the Honey Marketing Committee, together with the number of votes allotted to each voter, is now open for inspection during official hours at the undermentioned offices of the Marketing Department :—

Auckland,
Wellington,
Hastings,
Nelson,
Christchurch, and
Dunedin.

The roll will be open for inspection for fourteen (14) days following the publication of this notice.

Nomination forms may be obtained on application to any of the above offices of the Department or from the Returning Officer, whose address is care of Marketing Department, Wellington, P.O. Box 1500, Wellington. Nominations must be in the hands of the Returning Officer not later than midday on the 28th October, 1948, and must also be accompanied by a deposit of £3.

Notice to Mariners No. 43 of 1948

PUBLICATION OF THE NEW ZEALAND NAUTICAL ALMANAC AND TIDE-TABLES FOR THE YEAR 1949

THE New Zealand Nautical Almanac and Tide-tables for 1949, compiled at the Nautical Adviser’s Office, Marine Department, will be published at Wellington about the 1st November, 1948, and afterwards may be purchased from Government Shipping Offices or the Marine Department, Wellington.

The publication contained the following information :—

Astronomical ephemeris of the sun ; daily times of sunrise and sunset at Auckland, Christchurch, Dunedin, and Wellington, with time differences for ascertaining similar times at Invercargill, Nelson, New Plymouth, and Westport ; phases of the moon ; mean places and meridian passage of stars and times of moonrise and moonset at Wellington.

Tidal predictions, giving the daily times and heights of high and low water for the ports of Auckland, Bluff, Dunedin, Lyttelton, New Plymouth, Wellington, and Westport.

Time differences, by which the approximate time of high and low water may be obtained at 104 places within New Zealand.

Tidal-stream predictions, giving the approximate daily times of the flood and ebb streams making at French Pass and Tory Channel.

Magnetic declination (variation of the compass) at places throughout New Zealand for 1949, and places where abnormal variation has been experienced ; list of latest dated Admiralty charts of the coast and harbours of the Dominion, &c. ; list of New Zealand lighthouses, radio beacons, and fog-signals ; distress signals and procedure ; regulations preventing collisions at sea ; New Zealand time-service for chronometer rating ; standard times of the world ; general harbour signals ; table of coastal distances ; list of Customs ports ; meteorology of the New Zealand region ; Pacific Ocean date-line ; list of licensed adjusters of compasses and coastal pilots ; ports at which compulsory pilotage is in force ; system of buoyage ; closing of British ports ; a list of signal letters of ships registered in the Dominion ; small ship radio-telephony service ; useful nautical tables with the necessary explanations ; and principal articles of the calendar, holidays, &c.

Information and plans relative to ports in New Zealand ; important notices to mariners issued by the Admiralty and information for general use to navigators and others.

Prospective purchasers, especially those desiring a number of copies, should make early application so as to receive a supply from the first issue, as some weeks may elapse between the first and subsequent issues.

The Nautical Almanac is published by direction of the Hon. the Minister of Marine. Price, 5s.
