Appointments, Promotions, and Retirements of Officers of the New
Zealand Military Forces
Army Department,
Wellington, 8th September, 1948.
HIS Excellency the Governor-General has been pleased to approve of the following appointments, promotions, and retirements of officers of the New Zealand Military Forces:-
REGULAR FORCE
N.Z. Regiment
Jack Thomson Gill (late Lieutenant, N.Z. Artillery) is granted a short-service commission for a period of three years as from 19th June, 1948, in the rank of Lieutenant, with seniority from 1st July, 1944, next below Lieutenant T. W. Bate, and is appointed Education Officer, Cadet Wing, Army School of Instruction, Trentham. Dated 19th June, 1948.
The Royal N.Z. Army Ordnance Corps
Captain P. N. Erridge, M.B.E., relinquishes the appointment of Deputy Assistant Director of Ordnance Services (2), Army Headquarters, Wellington, proceeds to the United Kingdom to represent New Zealand on the Empire Catalogue Authority, and is granted the temporary rank of Major whilst so employed. Dated 24th August, 1948.
Supernumerary List, N.Z. Regular Force
Major (temp. Lieutenant-Colonel) J. P. Joyce, O.B.E., D.C.M., is posted to the Retired List with the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel. Dated 26th August, 1948.
Captain and Quartermaster J. D. Broadhurst is posted to the Retired List. Dated 27th August, 1948.
N.Z. TEMPORARY STAFF
Temp. Lieutenant J. R. Simpson is posted to the Retired List with the rank of Lieutenant. Dated 14th April, 1948.

Terry Rishworth Chadwick (late Lieutenant (A), R.N.Z.N.V.R.) to be temp. Lieutenant, and is seconded to the Dannevirke High School Cadets, Area 7. Dated 1st August, 1948.
The Taranaki Regiment
Captain William Arnold O'Neill Canavan, from the Retired List, to be temp. Captain, with seniority from 17th February, 1944, and is seconded to the Hawera Technical High School Cadets, Area 8. Dated 1st August, 1948.
The Canterbury Regiment
2nd Lieutenant J. F. Dodgson to be temp. Lieutenant, and remains seconded to the Papanui Technical College Cadets, Area 10. Dated 1st September, 1948.
The Nelson, Marlborough, and West Coast Regiment
Keith Ralph Askew to be 2nd Lieutenant (on prob.), and is seconded to the Motueka District High School Cadets, Area 9. Dated 18th June, 1948.
The Otago Regiment
Hon. Captain (Bandmaster) L. O. Asten, E.D., 1st Battalion, is posted to the Retired List. Dated 27th August, 1948.
OFFICER CEASING TO BE SECONDED TO THE 2ND NEW ZEALAND EXPEDITIONARY FORCE
Lieutenant J. Brown, and is reposted to the N.Z. Regular Force with the rank of Lieutenant, with seniority from 9th December, 1947. Dated 23rd August, 1948.
OFFICER STRUCK OFF THE STRENGTH OF THE 2ND NEW ZEALAND EXPEDITIONARY FORCE
The Rev. A. A. G. Welsh, Chaplain, 4th Class (Roman Catholic), The Royal N.Z. Chaplains Department, and is reposted to the Reserve List, Class I, Area 12, with the rank of Chaplain, 4th Class, with seniority from 5th June, 1946. Dated 20th August, 1948.
