IT is hereby notified that Wednesday, 4th August, 1948, is to
be observed as Arbor Day, and, in view of the national importance of tree planting, local bodies throughout New Zealand
are requested to organize suitable celebrations on that date.
Where, on account of local climatic conditions in any district,
the 4th August is deemed unsuitable, the local bodies affected are
invited to observe some other suitable day in that month.

Exemption Order under the Transport Legislation Emergency Regulations 1940
Pursuant to the Transport Legislation Emergency Regulations 1940,* the Minister of Transport doth hereby order and declare
that the provisions of clause (4A) of Regulation 5, and the requirement in subparagraph (b) of paragraph 1 in Form No. 5 of the
Motor-drivers Regulations 1940, so far as they relate to the driving
of a motor-omnibus, shall not apply to the person hereinafter mentioned, but in lieu thereof the following provision shall apply :-
A motor-driver's licence issued under the Motor-drivers
Regulations 1940 to J. H. Wyatt, of Dargaville, may authorize him to drive a motor-omnibus for the purpose of carrying the school-children and teachers of the Arapohue School, Dargaville,
but shall not authorize him to drive a motor-omnibus for any other
purpose.

    Approval of Application by Nelson City Council for Declaration of
    a Zone of Parking Restriction
    Pursuant to Regulation 3 of the Traffic Sign Regulations 1937, as amended by the Traffic Sign Regulations 1937,
    Amendment No. 1, the Minister of Transport doth hereby approve
    of the application made by the Nelson City Council for a declaration
    that the continuous parking of motor-vehicles shall be restricted
    to a maximum period of sixty minutes for any vehicle between the
    hours of 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. in the zone of parking restriction described
    in the Schedule hereto.
    SCHEDULE
    ALL that portion of Trafalgar Street extending from the Chief
    Post-office to Trafalgar Square; portion of that part of Bridge
    Street between Haven Road and Collingwood Street; portion of
    that part of Hardy Street between Rutherford Street and Collingwood Street; and the whole of Alma Street. As the said area is
    more particularly delineated in blue colour on plan marked
    TT. 1983, deposited in the office of the Commissioner of Transport
    at Wellington.

    The Servicemen's Settlement and Land Sales Act, 1943.-Notice
    declaring Land taken for the Settlement of a Discharged Serviceman
    WHEREAS an application has been made for the consent of the Land Sales Court to a transaction which relates to the land described in the Schedule hereto and to which Part III
    of the Servicemen's Settlement and Land Sales Act, 1943, applies :
    And whereas the Land Sales Committee to which the application
    has been referred is of opinion that the land to which the application relates is farm land suitable for the settlement of a discharged serviceman:
    And whereas the said committee, not being satisfied that the
    Crown had decided not to acquire or arrange for the acquisition
    of the land, did on the 21st day of April, 1948, make an order
    determining the basic value of the land and no appeal from the said
    order was made within the time prescribed by the said Act or within
    any further time allowed by the Court:
    And whereas the said land is not the land of any serviceman who is for the time being serving outside New Zealand in any of His Majesty's Forces or in any British ship:
    Now, therefore, the Minister of Lands, acting in pursuance of section 51 of the said Act, doth hereby declare that the said land
    is taken for the settlement of a discharged serviceman, and hereby
    specifies the 10th day of August, 1948, as the date on which the
    said land shall be deemed to be vested in His Majesty the King.
    SCHEDULE
    NORTH AUCKLAND LAND DISTRICT
    All that parcel of land situated in Block II, Rodney Survey District,
    containing by admeasurement forty-nine (49) acres, more or less,
    being Allotment 143, Omaha Parish, and being all of the land described in certificate of title, Vol. 153, folio 199 (Auckland Registry).
    As witness my hand, this 13th day of July, 1948.
