Declaring Parts of a Tribal District to be Tribal Committee Areas under
the Maori Social and Economic Advancement Act, 1945

PURSUANT to section 14 of the Maori Social and Economic
Advancement Act, 1945, I, Peter Fraser, Minister of Maori
Affairs, do hereby declare the parts of the tribal district described in
the Schedule hereto to be tribal committee areas for the purposes of
the said Act, and do hereby assign to each of the several areas the
name appearing at the head of the description of each such area.

SCHEDULE
Rotorua Borough Tribal District
Ohinemutu Tribal Committee Area
ALL that area bounded by a line commencing at a point on the
boundary of the Borough of Rotorua, being the intersection of the
southern side of Salisbury Road with the eastern side of the
Cambridge-Rotorua State Highway; thence easterly generally
along the north-eastern side of the road-line, as shown on Maori
Land plan numbered 8665, lodged in the office of the Chief Surveyor
at Auckland, and a right line, being the production south-easterly of
the said north-eastern side across railway land to its eastern boundary;
thence southerly along the said eastern boundary to a point being the
production north-westerly of the north-eastern boundary of the areas
to be taken for road, and shown on Survey Office plan numbered
29140, lodged in the office of the Chief Surveyor at Auckland, and
being parts of Koutu Nos. 3B and 3A No. 2A Blocks; thence south-
easterly along a right line, to and along the said north-eastern
boundary to the north-western side of Bennett's Road; thence
north-easterly along the north-western side of Bennett's Road afore-
said to the shores of Lake Rotorua; thence south-easterly generally
along the said shore to a point in line with the south-eastern boundary
of Tahererauti No. 2 Block (Ohinemutu Pa); thence along a right
line being the production north-easterly of the aforesaid boundary
for a distance of 71·44 links bearing 46° 1' 40"; thence south-
easterly along a right line for a distance of 2599·54 links bearing
115° 49' 30", and southerly along another right line for a distance of
215 links bearing 180° 1' 42" to the original lake shore at the boundary
of the Municipal Reserve; thence again south-easterly and southerly
generally along the shores of the said lake, to and up the left bank of
the Puarenga Stream, to and along the southern side of the Rotorua-
Whakatane State Highway to the middle of Alum Creek; thence
northerly down Alum Creek to the middle of the Rotorua-Whakatane
State Highway; thence north-westerly generally along the middle
of that State highway and Fenton Street to a point in line with the
northern boundary of Suburban Section 11, Railway Reserve;
thence westerly to and along that boundary, the northern boundaries
of Suburban Sections 10, 9, and 8, all Railway Reserve, and the pro-
duction of the last-mentioned boundary to the middle of Ranolf
Street; thence northerly along the middle of Ranolf Street, and
north-westerly along Main Road and the Cambridge-Rotorua State
Highway to a point due west of the intersection of the southern side
of Salisbury Road with the eastern side of the said State highway;
thence easterly along a right line to that intersection, being the point
of commencement.

Tawera Tribal Committee Area
All that area bounded by a line commencing at a point in the
middle of the Cambridge-Rotorua State Highway due west of the
intersection of the eastern side of that State highway with the
southern side of Salisbury Road, the said point being a point on the
boundary of the Ohinemutu Tribal Committee Area hereinbefore
described; thence south-easterly and southerly generally along the
south-western and western boundaries of that area to the intersection
of the middle of Ranolf Street with the middle of Pererika Street;
thence westerly along the middle of Pererika Street and its production
to the right bank of the Utahina Stream; thence north-easterly
generally along the right bank of that stream to a point being the
production south-easterly of the south-western boundary of part
Lot 1, as shown on the plan numbered 31952, deposited in the office
of the District Land Registrar at Auckland, being part of Kaitao-
Rotohokahoka No. 3A No. 1 Block; thence along a right line across
the said Utahina Stream and part Kaitao-Rotohokahoka No. 3A
No. 1 Block, to and along the south-western boundary of the said
part Lot 1 on the plan numbered 31952 aforesaid, and along the
south-western boundary of Lot 1, as shown on the plan numbered
32372, deposited as aforesaid, being another part of Kaitao-
Rotohokahoka No. 3A No. 1 Block, and a right line being that
boundary produced across Sunset Road to its north-western side;
thence north-easterly along the said north-western side to a point
being the production south-easterly of the south-western boundary
of part Kaitao-Rotohokahoka No. 2c Block; thence along a right
line across Kaitao-Rotohokahoka No. 2D South Block, to and along
the said south-western boundary, along another right line from the
western corner of the said part Kaitao-Rotohokahoka No. 2c Block,

across Kaitao-Rotohokahoka Nos. 2B and 2A Blocks, to and along
the north-eastern boundary of part Kaitao-Rotohokahoka No. 1A
No. 1 Block, a right line being the last-mentioned boundary produced
across View Road to its north-western side; thence south-westerly
along the said north-western side to the north-eastern corner of part
Kaitao-Rotohokahoka No. 1A No. 2 Block, as shown on the plan
numbered 25453, deposited as aforesaid; thence along the north-
eastern boundary of that block, along the south-eastern and north-
eastern boundaries of Lot 3 and the north-eastern boundary of Lot 2,
as shown on the plan numbered 12993, deposited as aforesaid, being
parts of Kaitao-Rotohokahoka No. 1c Block, to and along the south-
eastern side of Clayton Road to a point being the production south-
easterly of the south-western boundary of Kaitao-Rotohokahoka
No. 1M 7 Block; thence along a right line across Clayton Road
aforesaid, to and along the said south-western boundary and the
north-western and part north-eastern boundaries of the said No.
1M 7 Block, the north-western and part north-eastern boundaries
of part Kaitao-Rotohokahoka No. 1L 1 Block, as shown on the plan
numbered 11874, deposited as aforesaid, the north-western boundary
of part Kaitao-Rotohokahoka No. 1L 1 Block, as shown on the plan
numbered 9616, deposited as aforesaid, to and along the western
side of Cambridge-Rotorua State Highway to a point due west of
the intersection of the southern side of Salisbury Road with the
eastern side of the said State highway; thence easterly along a right
line to a point in the middle of the said State highway, being the
point of commencement.

Whakarewarewa Tribal Committee Area
All that area bounded by a line commencing at a point on the
right bank of the Utahina Stream, being the south-western corner
of the Tarewa Tribal Committee Area hereinbefore described;
thence easterly along the southern boundary of that area, and
easterly and south-easterly along the southern and south-western
boundaries of the Ohinemutu Tribal Committee Area hereinbefore
described to the middle of Alum Creek; thence up the middle of
Alum Creek to a point being the production north-westerly of the
south-western boundary of part Section 26A, Suburbs of Rotorua;
thence along a right line, to and along the said south-western and
southern boundaries of the said part Section 26A, to and along the
north-western boundaries of part Section 5, Sections 14 and 15,
Block I, Tarawera Survey District, the northern boundary of the
last-mentioned section, and along a right line being the production
of that boundary across Section 16, Block I aforesaid, to the
eastern boundary of Section 80, Suburbs of Rotorua; thence along
the eastern, northern, western, and southern boundaries of the said
Section 80, and a right line being the production of the last-mentioned
boundary, across a public street, to and along the western boundary
of Section 5A of the said Block I, and along the left bank of the
Puarenga Stream to a point being its intersection with the eastern
side of Nelson Street; thence along a right line, across the Puarenga
Stream aforesaid, to and along the south-western boundary of
Section 6, Block I aforesaid, to the north-western boundary of
Rotomahana-Parekarangi No. 4A Block (Whakarewarewa State
Forest Plantation); thence westerly generally along the said north-
western boundary, to and along the north-eastern boundary of part
Tihi-o-Tonga No. B Block and its production across the Rotorua-
Taupo State Highway and a quarry reserve (Gazette, 1924, page 559),
to and along another part of the north-eastern boundary of the said
part Tihi-o-Tonga No. B Block, the north-eastern boundaries of
Tihi-o-Tonga No. C 1, Part C 2B, C 2A, and A Blocks to Trig. Station
33 (Ngatautara); thence northerly generally along the south-eastern
boundary of the said Tihi-o-Tonga A Block, to and up the right
bank of the Utahina Stream to the south-western corner of the
Tarewa Tribal Committee Area aforesaid, being the point of
commencement.

Notice of Intention to take Land in Blocks IV and V, Karikari Survey
District, for Road.

NOTICE is hereby given that it is proposed, under the provisions
of the Public Works Act, 1928, to take the land described
in the Schedule hereto for road: And notice is hereby further
given that the plan of the land required to be taken is deposited in
the post-office at Mangonui and is there open for inspection; and
that all persons affected by the taking of the said land should, if
they have any well-grounded objections to the taking of such land,
set forth the same in writing, and send such writing, within forty
days from the first publication of this notice, to the Minister of
Works at Wellington.
