whether new or second-hand, for any purpose other than the repair
of existing galvanized steel or iron ridging, eaves gutters, or
downpipes of dwellings only.

  1. Except with the precedent consent of the Building Controller,
    no person shall use copper (other than copper tube) for any
    building or constructional work otherwise than for the manufacture
    of washing-coppers, hot-water cylinders, drainage vent stacks,
    flushing cisterns, or supply-tanks of up to 50 gallons in capacity.
    For the purposes of this clause the term “copper” includes copper
    sheets and parts of copper sheets and any other kind or form of
    copper capable of being fabricated for the purposes of any kind of
    constructional work.

  2. Except with the precedent consent of the Building Controller,
    no person shall use copper tube for any constructional work other-
    wise than as piping for conveying hot water (including any exhaust
    pipe from a hot-water cylinder) and as a cold-water feed-pipe from
    a supply-tank or pressure-reducing valve to a hot-water cylinder.

  3. Except with the precedent consent of the Building Controller,
    no person shall use screwed steel conduit for the enclosure of electric
    cable for internal wiring in any case where an alternative method of
    enclosure or covering is provided for in the Electrical Wiring
    Regulations 1935, but such alternative method of enclosure or
    covering shall be used.

  4. Except with the precedent consent of the Building Con-
    troller, no person shall use corrugated asbestos-cement sheets—

(a) For wall sheathing; or
(b) For the purpose of roofing new houses built in urban areas
in the North Island.

  1. Except with the precedent consent of the Building
    Controller, no owner or person acting in the general management
    or control of any sash and door factory or joinery factory shall
    manufacture any door or allow or permit any door to be manu-
    factured therein unless the door is one of the types specified in,
    and conforming to, the requirements of the New Zealand Emergency
    Standard Specification entitled “New Zealand Emergency Standard
    Specification for Doors,” issued by the New Zealand Standards
    Institute under the authority of the Minister of Industries and
    Commerce, bearing date November, 1945, and numbered N.Z.S.S.
    E. 106, as amended from time to time, or with any specification
    which may hereafter be issued in substitution therefor. For the
    purposes of this clause “door” means a door exceeding 4 ft. 6 in.
    in height, but not exceeding 7 ft. 6 in. in height; but does not
    include a cupboard door or a door for any domestic outbuilding
    or garage.

  2. In any case where an application has been made to any
    local authority, whether before or after the publication of this
    notice, for a permit for any constructional work, the local authority
    shall not issue the permit therefor without the precedent consent
    of the Building Controller.

  3. In any case where any person proposes to commence any
    constructional work and no permit therefor is required from a local
    authority, that person shall not commence the work without the
    precedent consent of the Building Controller unless the work is—

(a) Paperhanging or painting which is not prohibited by clause
16 hereof; or
(b) Work which is maintenance or replacement work or which
relates only to fixtures and fittings and in which the
value of the building materials required to be used does
not exceed £10.

  1. Except with the precedent consent of the Building
    Controller, no person shall use cement or ready mixed concrete for
    any of the following purposes:—

(i) Concrete paving.
(ii) The manufacture of concrete paving slabs.
(iii) Concrete curbing and channelling.
(iv) The construction of paths.
(v) The construction of terraces.
(vi) The construction of fences (not including fence-posts).
(vii) The construction of garden walls.
(viii) The construction of retaining-walls.
(ix) The construction of swimming-baths.
(x) The construction of swimming-pools.
(xi) The construction of fish-ponds and other ponds.
(xii) The manufacture of precast-concrete ornaments.
(xiii) The manufacture of garden furniture.

  1. Except with the precedent consent of the Building
    Controller, no person shall sell, supply, dispose of, or part with the
    possession of, or deliver cement or ready mixed concrete unless he
    is satisfied that it is not intended to be used for any of the aforesaid
    purposes.

  2. Except with the precedent consent of the Building
    Controller, no person shall use paint containing white lead or
    linseed oil for the purpose of painting or coating the external
    exposed surface of any walls, whether part of a building or not,
    finished in concrete, asbestos-cement sheets, brick, plaster, or stone
    .

  3. The following Building Construction Control Notices are
    hereby revoked:—

(a) The Building Construction Control Notice No. 20 (Gazette,
9th May, 1946, Vol. II, page 660).
(b) The Building Construction Control Notice No. 21 (Gazette,
8th August, 1946, Vol. II, page 1088).
(c) The Building Construction Control Notice No. 22 (Gazette,
8th August, 1946, Vol. II, page 1088).

Dredging Operations

Position: Lat., 45° 53′ S.; long., 170° 53½′ E. (approx.).
Details: The dredger “Vulcan” is working at night off
Kitchener Street Wharf, Dunedin, from 5 p.m. onwards. Permanent
mooring wires, marked with notice-boards, are attached to the
wharf, and masters are warned to take every precaution when
approaching or leaving the wharf. The wires are slacked off during
the day.
