Lands permanently reserved in the Auckland, Gisborne, Hawke’s Bay, Taranaki, Wellington, and Canterbury Land Districts

WHEREAS by the three-hundred-and-fifty-ninth section of the Land Act, 1924, it is enacted that the Governor-General may from time to time set apart temporarily as reserves, notwithstanding that the same may be then held under pastoral license, any Crown lands which in his opinion are required for any of the purposes in the said section mentioned:

And whereas by the three-hundred-and-sixtieth section of the said Act it is provided that land temporarily reserved under the said three-hundred-and-fifty-ninth section may, at the expiration of one month, but not later than six months, after the publication in the Gazette of notice of such temporary reservation, be permanently reserved, and that notice of such permanent reservation shall be published in the Gazette:

And whereas by the seventy-first section of the Land for Settlements Act, 1925, it is further provided that the Governor-General may from time to time, as he thinks fit, set aside reserves for any specified public purpose out of lands acquired under the last-mentioned Act, provided that no land so acquired shall be set aside for endowments:

And whereas the lands described in the Schedule hereto were by the Warrant dated the twenty-seventh day of March, one thousand nine hundred and forty-seven, and published in the Gazette of the second day of April of that year, temporarily reserved under the authority of the said Acts for the purposes in the Schedule of the said Warrant specified at the end of the respective descriptions of the lands so intended to be temporarily reserved:

Now, therefore, I, Lieutenant-General Sir Bernard Cyril Freyberg, the Governor-General of the Dominion of New Zealand, in pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities conferred upon me by the said Acts, do hereby permanently reserve the lands described in the Schedule hereto for the purposes in the said Schedule specified at the end of the respective descriptions of the lands so intended to be permanently reserved for which purposes the said lands were so temporarily reserved as aforesaid.

SCHEDULE

AUCKLAND LAND DISTRICT

SECTION 15 (formerly described as part of Lot 9, Papaparoro Block, on D.P. 2059), Block VI, Coromandel Survey District: Area, 7·5 perches, more or less. (Auckland plan S.O. 33320.) (County buildings.)

GISBORNE LAND DISTRICT

Section 12, Block XV, Waikohu Survey District: Area, 5 acres, more or less. (S.O. plan 1664.) (Public-school site, Ngatapa.)

All that area situated in the Borough of Gisborne, containing 1 acre 1 rood 28·44 perches, more or less, being Subdivision 123 on plan No. 4004 (blue) in the office of the Chief Surveyor, Gisborne, and being part of Lot 18, D.P. 1789 (part Section 209), part of Lot 3 of Section 210, and part Section 212, Gisborne Suburban, and being part of the land comprised in Certificates of Title, Volume 88, folio 166, and Volume 91, folio 48 (Gisborne Registry). As the same is more particularly delineated on the plan marked L. and S. 1/1107/2, deposited in the Head Office, Department of Lands and Survey, at Wellington, and thereon edged red. (Recreation.)

HAWKE’S BAY LAND DISTRICT

All that area in the Borough of Hastings, containing by admeasurement 1 acre 2 roods 36·38 perches, more or less, being Lot 74 on S.O. plan 2132, deposited in the office of the Chief Surveyor at Napier, being part Heretaunga Block. As the same is more particularly delineated on the plan marked L. and S. 1/1107/3B, deposited in the Head Office, Department of Lands and Survey, at Wellington, and thereon edged red. (Recreation.)

Also all that area in the Borough of Hastings, containing by admeasurement 3 roods 34·38 perches, more or less, being Lot 38 on S.O. plan 2054, deposited in the office of the Chief Surveyor at Napier, being part Heretaunga Block. As the same is more particularly delineated on the plan marked L. and S. 1/1107/3A, deposited in the Head Office, Department of Lands and Survey, at Wellington, and thereon edged red. (Recreation.)

TARANAKI LAND DISTRICT

Section 3, Block XXV, Town of Opunake: Area, 1 rood, more or less. (Buildings of the General Government.)

WELLINGTON LAND DISTRICT

All that area situated in City of Lower Hutt, containing by admeasurement 2 acres 2 roods 15 perches, more or less, being Section 115, Epuni Hamlet, situated in Block XIV, Belmont Survey District. (Public-school site, Epuni.)

CANTERBURY LAND DISTRICT

All that area containing by admeasurement 2 acres 2 roods 5 perches, more or less, being part Reserve 1263, situated in Block IV, Otaio Survey District, and bounded as follows: Towards the south-west and south-east by Rural Section 9116, 513·2 links and 583·9 links respectively, and towards the west and north-east generally by a public road by distances aggregating 2763·8 links. (Plantation.)

Appointment of Officer for the Purpose of the Sale of Food and Drugs Act, 1908

PURSUANT to the Sale of Food and Drugs Act, 1908, I, Lieutenant-General Sir Bernard Cyril Freyberg, the Governor-General of the Dominion of New Zealand, do hereby appoint

John Rae

to be an officer for the purposes of the Sale of Food and Drugs Act, 1908.

Royal Commission to Inquire into and Report upon the Sheep-farming Industry in New Zealand

To Our Trusty and Well-beloved RONALD HUGH WHITE, of Otane, Sheep-farmer, the Honourable Mr. RICHARD EDDY, of Wellington, Member of the Legislative Council, LIONEL CHARINGTON GARDINER, of Waiau, Sheep-farmer, WALLACE FLETCHER METCALFE, of Te Araroa, Sheep-farmer, WILLIS ALAN SCAIFE, of Wanaka, Sheep-farmer, and HOWARD WILFRED YOUREN, of Napier, Sheep-farmer: GREETING.

WHEREAS We have deemed it expedient that inquiry should be made into the economic position of the sheep-farming industry in New Zealand and the welfare of the persons engaged and employed in such industry:

Now know ye that We, reposing trust and confidence in your integrity, knowledge, and ability, do hereby nominate, constitute, and appoint you, the said

to be a Commission to inquire into and report upon the conditions in and existing laws relating to or affecting the sheep-farming industry in New Zealand, including, but without limiting the generality of the foregoing authority—

(1) The availability of land for sheep-farming and the opportunities available for taking up land for such purpose:
(2) The condition and possible improvement of any land used, formerly used or capable of being used, for sheep-farming, and particularly the deterioration of any such land, especially high and hill country land, whether by erosion of soil, second growth of trees or plants, spread of noxious weeds, rabbits, depletion, or any other causes and the methods of improving or regenerating such land:
(3) The production of the industry and methods of maintaining and increasing such production, whether by better management, increased top-dressing, improved pastures, or by any other means:
(4) The availability, efficiency, and utilization of labour, both permanent and casual, in the industry, with special reference to the drift of rural population and the possibility and means of attracting labour to the country, including the improvement of rural housing and the provision of community, social, and recreational amenities comparable with those of the towns:

And to report the steps which you may deem to be practicable and desirable to meet such detrimental conditions as you may find to exist in the industry in respect of the several matters aforesaid, whether by way of adjustment, reorganization, or otherwise, and any other measures which you may deem necessary or expedient to improve the conditions of the sheep-farming industry and to promote the welfare of the persons engaged or employed therein:

And generally to inquire into and report upon such other matters arising out of the premises as may come to your notice in the course of your inquiries and which you consider should be investigated in connection therewith, and upon any matters affecting the premises which you consider should be brought to the attention of the Government:

And We do hereby appoint you, the said

Ronald Hugh White

to be Chairman of the said Commission:

And for the better enabling you to carry these presents into effect you are hereby authorized and empowered to make and conduct any inquiry under these presents at such time and place as you deem expedient, with power to adjourn from time to time and place to place as you think fit, and so that these presents shall continue in force, and the inquiry may at any time and place be resumed although not regularly adjourned from time to time or from place to place:

And you are hereby strictly charged and directed that you shall not at any time publish or otherwise disclose save to His Excellency the Governor-General, in pursuance of these presents, or by His Excellency’s direction, the contents of any report so made
