THE Public Service Commission has made the following appointments in the Public Service:—
Frank Lockhart Barr
to be District Public Trustee for the District of Hawera for the purposes of the Public Trust Office Amendment Act, 1921–22, on and from the 31st day of March, 1947.
Gavin Wiseman Ballantine
to be an Inspector for the purposes of the Dairy Industry Act, 1908, on and from the 1st day of January, 1947.
Martin Langridge Solva Cole
to be Deputy Registrar of the Supreme Court of New Zealand at Auckland for the purposes of the Judicature Act, 1908, on and from the 25th day of March, 1947.
Constable David Henry Sutton
to be Clerk and Bailiff of the Magistrates’ Court at Woodville for the purposes of the Magistrates’ Courts Act, 1928, and Maintenance Officer at the Magistrates’ Court at Woodville for the purposes of the Destitute Persons Amendment Act, 1926, on and from the 9th day of April, 1947.
Constable John Morris Pointon
to be Clerk and Bailiff of the Magistrates’ Court at Hunter ville for the purposes of the Magistrates’ Courts Act, 1928, on and from the 1st day of April, 1947.
George Eric Wight
to be Registrar of Births and Deaths of Maoris at Te Pupuke, on and from the 24th day of March, 1947.
George William Cormack
to be Registrar of Births and Deaths of Maoris at Rakaumanga, on and from the 1st day of April, 1947.
Mary Elizabeth McLister (Miss)
to be Deputy Registrar of Births and Deaths of Maoris at Halfmoon Bay, on and from the 1st day of April, 1947.
James Nesbitt
to be Registrar of Births and Deaths of Maoris at Rotokawa, on and from the 1st day of April, 1947.
Roy Albert Norman
to be Registrar of Births and Deaths of Maoris at Whakarara, on and from the 9th day of April, 1947.

Notice of Intention to take Land in Block XIV, Komakorau Survey District, for Housing Purposes
NOTICE is hereby given that it is proposed, under the provisions of the Public Works Act, 1928, to take the land described in the Schedule hereto for housing purposes: And notice is hereby further given that the plan of the land required to be taken is deposited in the post-office at Hamilton and is there open for inspection; and that all persons affected by the taking of the said land should, if they have any well-grounded objections to the taking of such land, set forth the same in writing, and send such writing, within forty days from the first publication of this notice, to the Minister of Works at Wellington.

Declaring Area to be a Closely Populated Locality for the Purposes of the Motor-vehicles Amendment Act, 1936, Section 3
IN terms of section 3 of the Motor-vehicles Amendment Act, 1936, the Minister of Transport does hereby declare the area described in the Schedule hereto to be a closely populated locality for the purposes of the said section to the intent that a person driving any motor-vehicle on any road, street, or other place to which the public have access therein shall be subject to the maximum speed limit of thirty miles an hour fixed by the said section.
SCHEDULE
SITUATED within Waimea County—
All that area at Stoke consisting of that portion of the Nelson–Westport State Highway No. 54 commencing at a point 16 chains measured along the said State highway in a south-westerly direction from the present position of the main entrance to the Stoke Post-office, proceeding thence generally in a north-easterly direction and terminating at a point 16 chains measured along the said State highway in a north-easterly direction from the said post-office.

The Servicemen’s Settlement and Land Sales Act, 1943.—Notice of Intention to take Land
THE Minister of Lands, acting in pursuance of section 24 of the Servicemen’s Settlement and Land Sales Act, 1943, hereby gives notice of his intention to take the lands described in the Schedule hereto under Part II of the said Act, and specifies the 1st day of July, 1947, as the date on which possession of the land is required, and the 30th day of May, 1947, as the date on or before which objections may be made under section 25 of the said Act.
SCHEDULE
WELLINGTON LAND DISTRICT
ALL that area situate in Blocks IX, XIII, and XIV, Rangitoto Survey District, containing by admeasurement two hundred and forty-eight (248) acres three (3) roods and five (5) perches, more or less, being part Sections 34, 34A, 2 of 38, and 44, Rangitikei District, and being also Lots 7 and 8 on a plan deposited in the office of the District Land Registrar at Wellington, numbered 4673, and being all the land comprised and described in certificate of title, Vol. 366, folio 88 (Wellington Registry).
Also all that area situate in Blocks V and VI, Koitiata Survey District, and Blocks IX and XIII, Rangitoto Survey District, containing by admeasurement nine hundred and seventy-one (971) acres and twenty-eight (28) perches, more or less, being parts of Sections 44 and 45 and parts of Blocks CXL, CXLII, CXLIV, CXLVI, and CXLVIII, Rangitikei District, and being also Lots 11, 12, 13, and 16 on a plan deposited in the office of the District Land Registrar at Wellington, numbered 4674, and being all the land comprised and described in certificate of title, Vol. 417, folio 96 (Wellington Registry).
