Minister's Decisions under Customs Acts


Customs Department, Wellington, 1st April, 1947.

It is hereby notified for public information that the Hon. the Minister of Customs has decided to interpret the Customs Acts in relation to the undermentioned articles as follows:

Notes.—

(a) "Within New Zealand" includes "as a" and means (b) Articles marked thus * are ok." articles and materials the rates of duty payable on goods set out in the Tariff have not been shown except in the case of goods classifiable under Tariff items 416, 443, and 449 (2), an Act to amend the Customs Acts (Amendment Act, 1927) at a rate of duty lower than that provided for in the First Schedule to the Customs Acts (Amendment Act, 1934). Where goods are admitted under the provisions of section II of the Customs Amendment Act, 1930, or of other Customs Acts, unless otherwise indicated, the reduced rate is marked with an asterisk.
(c) Steam-engines, gas-engines, oil-engines, and electric motors are not admitted unless otherwise authorised.
(d) In addition to the duties set out hereunder, or payable under the Customs Acts Amendment Act, 1931, as the case may be, is payable on importation a primage duty as provided for in section 1 of the Customs Acts Amendment Act, 1931.

        • Toys, materials for manufacture of, viz.:—

          • Masks of dolls' faces, composed of a layer of stiff buckram with superimposed layers of cotton textiles, the whole being bonded together and moulded into the shape of a face, but not being painted.

          (Note.—This decision will be reviewed after 30th September, 1947.)

(i) The projector will be used solely for educational purposes.
(ii) No charge will be made for admission to any lecture or meeting at which the projector is used.
(iii) The projector will be sold or otherwise disposed of without payment of the duty and sales tax otherwise chargeable.

These presses will continue to be classed under T.I. 352.
