Cancelling the Appointment of a Member and of the Chairman of
the Soil Conservation and Rivers Control Council and appointing
a Member and the Chairman of the said Council

WHEREAS by a Warrant dated the ninth day of June, one
thousand nine hundred and forty-two, and published in
the New Zealand Gazette No. 57 of the eleventh day of the same
month, at page 1575, Thomas George Gordon Beck, Esquire, then
of Christchurch, Civil Engineer, was appointed a member of the
Soil Conservation and Rivers Control Council in terms of section
three of the Soil Conservation and Rivers Control Act, 1941 :
And whereas by a Warrant dated the seventh day of May,
one thousand nine hundred and forty-six, and published in the
New Zealand Gazette No. 30 of the ninth day of the same month,
at page 648, the said Thomas George Gordon Beck, Esquire,
Assistant Engineer-in-Chief of the Public Works Department, was
appointed to be Chairman of the said Council in terms of section
four of the Soil Conservation and Rivers Control Act, 1941 :
And whereas the said Thomas George Gordon Beck, Esquire,
has resigned from membership and chairmanship of the said Council :
Now, therefore, in pursuance of the powers vested in me by
sections three and four of the Soil Conservation and Rivers Control
Act, 1941, and of all other powers and authorities in anywise
enabling me in this behalf, I, Lieutenant-General Sir Bernard Cyril
Freyberg, the Governor-General of the Dominion of New Zealand,
do hereby cancel the appointment of the said Thomas George
Gordon Beck to be a member and the Chairman of the Soil
Conservation and Rivers Control Council, and do hereby appoint
as from the date hereof William Langston Newnham, of the staff
of the Ministry of Works, to be a member and the Chairman of the
Soil Conservation and Rivers Control Council.
As witness the hand of His Excellency the Governor-General,
this 26th day of September, 1946.

PURSUANT to the authority conferred upon me by the three-
hundred-and-first section of the Justices of the Peace Act,
1927, I, Lieutenant-General Sir Bernard Cyril Freyberg, the
Governor-General of the Dominion of New Zealand, do hereby
notify and declare that the persons whose names are set out in the
Schedule hereto, being officers in the service of the Crown holding
the offices stated opposite their names respectively in the said
Schedule, are authorized to take and receive statutory declarations
under the three-hundred-and-first section of the Justices of the
Peace Act, 1927.

Land temporarily reserved in the Auckland Land District

WHEREAS by the three-hundred-and-fifty-ninth section of the
Land Act, 1924, it is enacted that the Governor-General
may from time to time set apart temporarily as reserves, notwith-
standing that the same may be then held under pastoral license,
any Crown lands which in his opinion are required for any of the
purposes in the said section mentioned :
Now, therefore, I, Lieutenant-General Sir Bernard Cyril
Freyberg, the Governor-General of the Dominion of New Zealand,
in pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities conferred
upon me by the said Act, do hereby temporarily reserve the land in
the Auckland Land District, described in the Schedule hereunder
written, for recreation purposes.
SCHEDULE
AUCKLAND LAND DISTRICT
SECTION 31, Block I, Aroha Survey District: Area, 2 acres and
9 perches, more or less.
As witness the hand of His Excellency the Governor-General,
this 26th day of September, 1946.

Notice of Intention to issue an Order in Council changing the Purpose
of Portion of a Reserve in Block VI, Maungakawa Survey
District, Auckland Land District

WHEREAS by subsection one (a) of section seven of the Public
Reserves, Domains, and National Parks Act, 1928 (here-
inafter referred to as the said Act), it is provided that the Governor-
General may from time to time, by Order in Council, change the
purpose of any public reserve or any part thereof, and thereafter
such reserve or part, as the case may be, shall be held and adminis-
tered for such changed purpose :
And whereas the land described in the Schedule hereto forms
portion of a reserve duly set apart for recreation purposes, and it
is expedient to change the purpose of the said land to a reserve for
a site for a public library and District War Memorial :
Now, therefore, I, Lieutenant-General Sir Bernard Cyril
Freyberg, the Governor-General of the Dominion of New Zealand,
do hereby give notice, pursuant to subsection two of section seven
of the said Act, that it is my intention to issue an Order in Council
under the provisions of subsection one (a) of section seven of the
said Act, declaring that the reservation over the land described in
the Schedule hereto shall be changed from a reserve for recreation
purposes to a reserve for a site for a public library and District War
Memorial.
SCHEDULE
AUCKLAND LAND DISTRICT
ALL that area in the Borough of Morrinsville, situated in Block VI,
Maungakawa Survey District, containing by admeasurement
8·7 perches, more or less, being part of Lot 2 on the plan numbered
8254, deposited in the office of the District Land Registrar at
Auckland, and being part of Motumaho No. 2 Block: Bounded
towards the north-west by Lot 1 on Plan 8452, deposited as afore-
said, 200 links; towards the north-east by a right line bearing
145° 05′ distant 27·27 links; towards the south-east by another
right line bearing 235° 05′ distant 200 links; and towards the
south-west by Canada Street, 27·27 links. As the same is more
particularly delineated on the plan marked L. and S. 1/295, deposited
in the Head Office, Department of Lands and Survey, at Wellington,
and thereon edged red.
As witness the hand of His Excellency the Governor-General,
this 27th day of September, 1946.

Vesting the Control of a Scenic Reserve in the Wairarapa Lake-shore
Scenic Board

IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities conferred
upon him by section thirteen of the Scenery Preservation Act,
1908, His Excellency the Governor-General of the Dominion of
New Zealand doth hereby vest the control of the reserve described
in the Schedule hereto (being land reserved under the said Act),
for the period of five years from the date hereof (unless previously
altered or revoked under the said Act) in the undermentioned
persons, namely,—
Robert Allen Donald,
Jack Raymond Matthews,
Raymond Wilfred Matthews,
Norman Charles Campbell Shepherd, and
Clifford Charles Wilkinson,
who are hereby constituted for that purpose a special Board by
the name of the Wairarapa Lake-shore Scenic Board (herein referred
to as the Board), in trust, for the preservation of scenery, and
with the powers and subject to the conditions hereinafter contained,
that is to say:—
-
The first meeting of the Board shall be held on Wednesday,
the second day of October, one thousand nine hundred and
forty-six, at half past seven o'clock p.m., in the Wairarapa Racing
Club's Office, Fox Street, Featherston. -
The members of the Board shall at their first meeting, and
thereafter at the annual meeting hereinafter mentioned, elect one
of themselves to be Chairman, who may join in the discussion, and
shall have an original as well as a casting vote. The Chairman shall
hold office until the election of his successor. -
Special meetings may be convened by the Chairman, provided
that two days' notice of such meeting is given to each member,
specifying the business to be transacted at such special meeting ;
and no other business than that so specified shall be transacted at
such meeting. -
Any three members of the Board shall form a quorum.
Any meeting may be adjourned from time to time. -
All questions shall be determined by the majority of votes
of the members of the Board present at the meeting. -
If at any meeting the Chairman is not present at the time
appointed for holding the same, the members present shall choose
one of their number to be Chairman for such meeting. -
If by resignation, death, incapacity, or otherwise, the seat
of any member shall be or become vacant, or if any member absents
himself, without reasonable cause, from three consecutive meetings
of the Board, the Governor-General shall have power to appoint
any other person to be a member of the Board in his stead.
