LIST OF PERSONS EMPLOYED IN THE PUBLIC
SERVICE, 1946

PUBLISHED IN TERMS OF SECTION 28 OF THE PUBLIC SERVICE ACT, 1912

As a matter of convenience this list shows, in addition to the requirements of section 28 of the Act,
the salary for the year ended 31st March, 1947.

THE attention of officers is called to the statutory provisions from the Public Service Amendment Act,
1927, following:

Section 17 (1).—Every officer shall have a right of appeal in accordance with this section against—

(a) Any determination of the Commissioner made pursuant to section 17 of the principal Act (i.e., Public Service
Act, 1912) fixing the maximum salary payable in respect of any position in respect of the Clerical or Professional
Division.
(aa) Any determination of the Commissioner made pursuant to sections seventeen and twenty-two of the
principal Act fixing the maximum salary payable in respect of any position in the General or Educational
Division.
(cc) Any determination of the Commissioner made pursuant to section seventeen of the principal Act which
results in the promotion of an officer, if the appointment of the appellant to fill the office or position
held by the officer would have involved the promotion of the appellant.

Section 17 (2).—Notice of appeal against any determination of the Commissioner and of the grounds of such
appeal shall be forwarded to the Commissioner in writing within twenty-one days after such determination has been
notified to the officer concerned or within such extended time as the Commissioner may in any case allow.

For the purpose of section 17 (2) above, this list is to be regarded as notification of the Commissioner's
determination in respect of the grading of each officer in accordance with section 17 of the Public
Service Act, 1912.

In exercise of the right conferred on the Commissioner to allow extended time in which an appeal
shall be forwarded, it is hereby notified that noon on the 6th November, 1946, is the last hour and day
on which appeals (in duplicate) may be forwarded to the office of the Commissioner to be regarded as in
time.

NOTE.—In the course of regrading the Public Service it has been necessary to declare many positions vacant in order
to allow fair and open competition for the appointments. The vacancies will be advertised in a special issue of the
Public Service Official Circular, and applications should be made in the usual way. The seniority of applicants for such
positions will be regarded as that which existed on 31st March, 1946.

Wellington, 30th September, 1946.

J. H. Boyes, Commissioner.
G. T. Bolt, Assistant Commissioner.
J. A. E. ENGEL, Assistant Commissioner.
