By-laws regulating Traffic on the Waikanae, Otaki, and Ohau River Bridges on the Levin-Paekakariki State Highway
IN pursuance and exercise of the powers conferred by section 9 of the Main Highways Act, 1922, and by section 155 of the Public Works Act, 1928, the Main Highways Board doth hereby make the following by-law in respect of the above-mentioned bridges, and doth hereby declare that the said by-law shall come into force on the 18th day of September, 1946.
BY-LAW

That the Main Highways Board hereby gives notice that no person shall drive or take, or permit to be driven or taken, any vehicle upon or over the Waikanae, Otaki, and Ohau River Bridges on the Levin-Paekakariki State Highway at a greater speed than 10 miles per hour, or if the maximum axle load is in excess of 5½ tons, or if the gross weight of the vehicle and load is in excess of 10 tons.

(a) No person shall drive or cause or permit to be driven or allow any cattle in excess of forty at any given time to pass along or over the above-mentioned bridges.
(b) Cattle includes any bull, cow, ox, steer, heifer, or calf.
- (a) Every person who does or cause or procures to be done anything contrary to the terms of this by-law shall be guilty of an offence.
(b) Every person guilty of an offence against this by-law shall be liable to a fine not exceeding five pounds (£5) for each such offence.
The foregoing by-laws were made by a resolution duly passed at a meeting of the Main Highways Board held at Wellington on 18th September, 1946.

THE following reprint of Admiralty Notice No. 1940 of 1946 is published for the general information of mariners:

Conventional Signs and Abbreviations for Radio and Radar Aids to Navigation
Former Notice : No. 639 of 1946 ; hereby cancelled.
Details : The accompanying reproduction shows the conventional signs and abridged descriptions of Radio and Radar Aids which are being adopted for use on Admiralty Charts. The outer circles will, as shown, be printed in the same colour as light flares on the charts.
The abridged description "R.B." will supersede both "Fog W/T" and "W/T Bn", since the difference in service, hitherto implied by the two latter abbreviations, is adequately covered by the details given in the Admiralty List of Radio Signals.
The new symbols will be included in the next edition of chart No. 5011, "Signs and Abbreviations."
