Assumption of the Office of Governor-General and Commander-in-Chief of New Zealand
by Lieutenant-General Sir Bernard Cyril Freyberg

A PROCLAMATION

WHEREAS His Majesty King George the Sixth was graciously pleased, by a Commission passed under the Royal Sign Manual and Signet, bearing date at Saint James's the fifteenth day of February, one thousand nine hundred and forty-six,
to constitute and appoint me, Sir Bernard Cyril Freyberg, to be Governor-General and Commander-in-Chief in and over His Majesty's Dominion of New Zealand and its Dependencies:
Now, I, the Governor-General and Commander-in-Chief aforesaid, do hereby proclaim and declare that I have this day taken the prescribed oaths before the Right Honourable Sir Michael Myers, Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of New Zealand, and that I have assumed the said office of Governor-General and Commander-in-Chief in and over the Dominion of New Zealand and its Dependencies under and by virtue of His Majesty's said Commission.

Given under the hand of His Excellency Sir Bernard Cyril Freyberg, upon whom has been conferred the Decoration of the Victoria Cross, Knight Grand Cross of the Most Distinguished Order of Saint Michael and Saint George, Knight Commander of the Most Honourable Order of the Bath, Knight Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire, Companion of the Distinguished Service Order, Doctor of Laws, Lieutenant-General in His Majesty's Army, Governor-General and Commander-in-Chief in and over the Dominion of New Zealand and its Dependencies; and issued under the Seal of that Dominion, this seventeenth day of June, 1946.
