ENGINEERS REGISTRATION BOARD OF NEW ZEALAND
ANNUAL LIST OF REGISTERED ENGINEERS
Explanation
Particulars in the list as entered under each column are as follows :—
Column 1.—This contains the name of each engineer who at the date of the list is the holder of an Annual Practising Certificate issued under section 3 of the 1944 Amendment Act. An engineer who has been registered is required to hold a current Annual Practising Certificate in order to retain the full rights of registration.
Column 2.—This gives the postal address, either business or residential, as on the application for Annual Practising Certificate.
Column 3.—This shows the date of original registration, but no reference is made in this column to subsequent alterations to details of registration.
Column 4.—This shows the section of the 1924 Act or amendments under which the Board has authorized registration. Details are as follows :—
6 (i) a means registration by virtue of holding a “recognized certificate” in the form of a Diploma of Corporate Membership of one of the British Institutions of Civil, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineers, and also of having had not less than three years' experience in the practice of engineering.
6 (i) c means registration by virtue of a pass in examinations approved by the Board (being the full associated membership examinations of one of the British Institutions of Civil, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineers, or equivalent exempting examinations), and also of having had not less than three years’ experience in the practice of engineering.
6 (i) b means registration during the first period of operation of the 1924 Act of a person who had then attained the age of twenty-five years and had been engaged during a period of not less than six years before the commencement of the Act in the acquisition of professional knowledge, or in the practice of engineering in a manner satisfactory to the Board, and who made application for registration within twelve months after the commencement of the Act.
6 (i) b* means registration under the 1928 amendment which in effect re-enacted clause 6 (i) b of the 1924 Act in respect to any licensed surveyor in New Zealand who satisfied the Board that he had prior to the coming into operation of the 1924 Act substantial practical experience in engineering as part of his practice or employment whether on his own account or otherwise, and who made application for registration within six months of the passing of the amendment.
Section 7 means registration under section 7 of the 1944 amendment which applies to engineers who, within the twelve years prior to the passing of the amendment, have had six years responsible engineering practice, or substantially equivalent experience, in local authority work, provided application has been made within six months of the passing of the amendment. Provision is made for special consideration to discharged servicemen who apply within six months of their discharge.
The entry also gives the class of engineering in which the Board has accepted the engineer’s training and experience as a qualification for registration. The three main classes are Civil, Electrical, and Mechanical engineering, and these include any other class which is either specialized or restrictive.
It is also to be noted that corporate membership of one of the recognized British Engineering Institutions entitles the holder to be styled as a “Chartered Engineer,” but this information is omitted from the list.
