Union of Boroughs of City of Christchurch and Sumner

A PROCLAMATION
WHEREAS the respective Councils of the City of Christchurch and of the Borough of Sumner, by petitions under the respective common seals of the Corporations of such city and borough, as provided by the Municipal Corporations Act, 1933, have prayed the Governor-General that such city and borough (forming one continuous area) be constituted one united borough :
Now, therefore, I, Cyril Louis Norton Newall, the Governor-General of the Dominion of New Zealand, in pursuance of the powers vested in me by the said Municipal Corporations Act, 1933, do hereby proclaim that the said City of Christchurch and the said Borough of Sumner are hereby constituted one united borough, and also that the said borough so constituted is a city by the name of the City of Christchurch, and also that the boundaries of the said city so constituted and named shall be those set forth in the Schedule hereto :
And I do also proclaim that the said borough shall be an undivided borough, and that the number of councillors to be elected to the Council thereof shall be sixteen, exclusive of the Mayor :
And I do hereby appoint Herbert Stanley Feast (the Town Clerk to the existing City of Christchurch) to be the Town Clerk temporarily of the said united borough; and I do hereby appoint Herbert Stanley Feast (the Returning Officer to the said existing city) to be the Returning Officer temporarily to the said united borough :
And I do also proclaim and declare that this Proclamation shall take effect on and from the first day of April, one thousand nine hundred and forty-five.

BOUNDARIES OF THE CITY OF CHRISTCHURCH
All that area in the Canterbury Land District, bounded by a line commencing at the intersection of the south-eastern boundary of Rural Section 112 and the north-eastern side of Langdon’s Road; thence proceeding south-easterly along the said north-eastern side of that road to the north-western side of Main North Road; thence north-easterly along the said north-western side of that road to the middle of the Papanui Drain; thence south-easterly along the middle of that drain, through Rural Sections 308, 307, 302, and 276 to the south-western boundary of Rural Section 1048; thence south-easterly along that boundary to the westernmost corner of Lot 25 on plan deposited in the Canterbury District Land Registry Office at Christchurch as No. 6279; thence along the north-western boundary of Lots 25, 24, 23, 22, 21, 20, 19, and 18, on the said plan deposited as aforesaid as No. 6279, and the production of that boundary to a point on the north-eastern boundary of Lot 1 on plan deposited as aforesaid as No. 6313; thence south-easterly along the said north-eastern boundary of that lot and the north-eastern boundary of Lots 17, 16, 15, and 14 on plan deposited as aforesaid as No. 6279, and that boundary produced to the south-eastern side of McFadden’s Road; thence along the south-eastern and south-western sides of that road to and across Innes Road; thence easterly along the south-eastern side of that road to Rural Section 345A; thence along the south-western boundaries of Rural Sections 345A and 2795 to and across Westminster Street to the south-western side of Shirley Road; thence along the said south-western side of that road to the south-eastern side of Thornton Street; thence north-easterly to and along the north-western boundary of Lots 1 and 34 on plan deposited as aforesaid as No. 9658 to the centre of Dudley Creek; thence north-easterly along the centre of that creek to the southern boundary of part Lot 1 on plan deposited as aforesaid as No. 8784; thence westerly, northerly, and easterly along the southern, western, and northern boundaries of the said part Lot 1 to Hills Road; thence easterly along the northern boundaries of Sections 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12G, and 13, across Bampton Street, to and along the northern boundaries of Sections 15, 17, and 18 on S.O. plan recorded as aforesaid as No. 7048, to the north-eastern corner of the said Section 18; thence southerly along the eastern boundary of that section, across Achilles Street, to and along the eastern boundaries of Sections 19 and 45 on S.O. plan recorded as aforesaid as No. 7026, to the northern side of Cooper’s Road; thence westerly along the said northern side of that road to its production to the centre of Banks Avenue; thence southerly along the centre of the said Banks Avenue to a point opposite the confluence of Dudley Creek and the River Avon; thence across the said River Avon and easterly generally along its right bank to a point in line with the western side of Kerr’s Road; thence northerly by a right line to the centre of the River Avon, and easterly generally along the centre of that river to a point on the south-eastern side of the Bower Bridge near the westernmost corner of Reserve 3061; thence north-easterly along the said south-eastern side of that bridge and its production to the New Brighton Road; thence south-easterly along the south-western side of that road to a point in line with the eastern side of Racecourse Road; thence northerly by a right line to and along the said eastern side of that road to Beach Road; thence easterly along the southern side of that road and its production to the low-water mark of the sea; thence south-easterly and north-westerly generally by the low-water mark of the sea and low-water mark of the estuary of the Heathcote and Avon Rivers to a point in line with the north-western boundary of Rural Section 11213; thence by the left bank of the River Avon to a point 2 chains distant from the south-eastern side of the Bower Bridge aforesaid; thence south-westerly by a right line parallel to
