Appointment of Officers for the Purposes of Part II of the Fisheries Act, 1908

IT is hereby notified that His Excellency the Governor-General has, in pursuance of the provisions of the Fisheries Act, 1908, and of the Official Appointments and Documents Act, 1919, appointed—

John Pateman, of Belfast, North Canterbury, and James Laing Gillespie, of Rangiora, North Canterbury,

to be officers for the purposes of Part II of the first-mentioned Act in respect of the North Canterbury Acclimatization District.

Garnet George Henry Michel, of Hokitika,

to be an officer for the purposes of Part II of the first-mentioned Act in respect of the Westland Acclimatization District.

Notification of Exemption from Renters’ Quota under the Cinematograph Films Act, 1928

IT is hereby notified that in accordance with the authority contained in section 29 of the Cinematograph Films Act, 1928, exemption has been granted to each of the following named renters in respect of the film-renting season for the year 1943–44 from the provision of the aforesaid Act, which requires every licensed renter to acquire a stated proportion of British films :—

Alteration of Closed Season.—Mahinapua Forest Fire District

WHEREAS by notice published in the Gazette of the 2nd day of November, 1922, at page 2907, an area comprising 16,300 acres in Kanieri and Mahinapua Survey Districts, Westland Land District, was declared to be a fire district and known as the Mahinapua Forest Fire District (hereinafter referred to as “the said district”) :

And whereas the period from the 1st day of January to the 31st day of March in any year (inclusive) was specified as the period (hereinafter referred to as “the said closed season”) for the said district during which it shall not be lawful for any person, save pursuant to the written permit of a Forest Officer, to set on fire or cause to be set on fire any timber (whether standing or not), or any undergrowth, or any debris from forest operations or land-clearing operations, or any grass or other specially inflammable material without taking such precautions as may be prescribed by a Forest Officer :

And whereas it is expedient that the said closed season for the said district be altered :

Now, therefore, in pursuance of section 27 of the Forests Act, 1921–22, I do hereby specify that the closed season for the said district shall henceforth be the period from the 1st day of August in any year to the 30th day of April in the following year inclusive.
