THE Public Service Commissioner has made the following appointments in the Public Service:—
Constable Cecil James Crawford
to be Clerk and Bailiff of the Magistrates’ Court at Roxburgh for the purposes of the Magistrates’ Courts Act, 1928, Clerk and Bailiff of the Warden’s Court, Receiver of Gold Revenue, and Mining Registrar at Roxburgh for the Mining District of Otago constituted under the Mining Act, 1926, and Maintenance Officer at the Magistrates’ Court at Roxburgh for the purposes of the Destitute Persons Amendment Act, 1926, on and from the 13th day of June, 1944.
John Caradus
to be Secretary for Land and Deeds, Commissioner of Stamp Duties for the purposes of the Stamp Duties Act, 1923, Registrar of Companies for the purposes of the Companies Act, 1933, and Registrar of Incorporated Societies for the purposes of the Incorporated Societies Act, 1908, on and from the 13th day of July, 1944.
Colin Ainslie Montgomerie
to be Registrar at Greymouth of the Supreme Court of New Zealand and Sheriff for the District of Westland for the purposes of the Judicature Act, 1908, Registrar and Marshal at Greymouth of the Supreme Court of New Zealand in respect of its jurisdiction as a Colonial Court of Admiralty under the Colonial Courts of Admiralty Act, 1890, Clerk of the Magistrates’ Court at Greymouth for the purposes of the Magistrates’ Courts Act, 1928, Clerk of the Warden’s Court, Receiver of Gold Revenue, and Mining Registrar at Greymouth for the Westland Mining District constituted under the Mining Act, 1926, and Official Assignee at Greymouth for the Supreme Court District of Westland for the purposes of the Bankruptcy Act, 1908, on and from the 4th day of July, 1944.

The Servicemen’s Settlement and Land Sales Act, 1943.—Notice declaring Land taken for the Settlement of a Discharged Serviceman
WHEREAS an application has been made for the consent of the Land Sales Court to a transaction which relates to the land described in the Schedule hereto and to which Part III of the Servicemen’s Settlement and Land Sales Act, 1943, applies:
And whereas the Land Sales Committee to which the application has been referred is of opinion that the land to which the application relates is farm land suitable for the settlement of a discharged serviceman:
And whereas the said committee, not being satisfied that the Crown had decided not to acquire or arrange for the acquisition of the land, did on the 22nd day of June, 1944, make an order determining the basic value of the land and no appeal from the said order was made within the time prescribed by the said Act or within any further time allowed by the Court:
And whereas the said land is not the land of any serviceman who is for the time being serving outside New Zealand in any of His Majesty’s Forces or in any British ship:
Now, therefore, I, Clarence Farrington Skinner, Minister of Lands, acting in pursuance of section 51 of the said Act, do hereby declare that the said land is taken for the settlement of a discharged serviceman, and I hereby specify the 7th day of August, 1944, as the date on which the said land shall be deemed to be vested in His Majesty the King.
SCHEDULE
ALL that parcel of land containing seventy-two (72) acres three (3) roods and two and fifty-seven hundredths (2·57) perches, more or less, being part of Section Twenty-three (23), Woodville Special Settlement, and being the balance of the land comprised and described in certificate of title, Vol. 91, folio 174 (Hawke’s Bay Registry).
As witness my hand, this 17th day of July, 1944.

The Serpentine Superphosphate Control Order 1944
IN pursuance and exercise of the powers conferred on him by the Primary Industries Emergency Regulations 1939,* the Minister of Agriculture doth hereby make the following Order.
ORDER
-
This Order may be cited as the Serpentine Superphosphate Control Order 1944, and shall come into force on the 1st day of August, 1944.

(1) The Serpentine Superphosphate Control Order 1943† is hereby revoked.
(2) The revocation of the said Order shall not affect the liability of any person for any offence in relation thereto committed before the commencement of this Order.

While this Order continues in force no person shall manufacture for sale or shall cause or permit to be manufactured for sale or shall pack for purposes of sale any serpentine superphosphate that fails to comply in any particular with the standards prescribed in the first column of the Schedule hereto by more than the permitted margin of tolerance (if any) specified in relation thereto in the second column of that Schedule.

While this Order continues in force no person shall use or shall cause or permit to be used in the manufacture of serpentine superphosphate intended for sale any serpentine rock that fails to comply in any particular with the standards prescribed in the first column of the Schedule hereto by more than the permitted margin of tolerance (if any) specified in relation thereto in the second column of that Schedule.

The Lemon Marketing Regulations 1940.—Notice fixing Prices of certain Grades
Office of the Minister of Marketing,
Wellington, 7th July, 1944.
PURSUANT to Regulation 5 : 1 of the Lemon Marketing Regulations 1940, I hereby fix the following prices per loose bushel to be paid by the Marketing Department for lemons delivered to the Department during the undermentioned period.
The prices of Commercial Grade are fixed on a basic rate of 4s. 8d. loose bushel.
Period of delivery (both days inclusive) : 1st May to 31st May, 1944 :—
