Land Surveyors’ Examination, March, 1944.—Australia and New Zealand

The Survey Board of New Zealand,
Wellington, 26th January, 1944.

IT is hereby notified for general information that the Survey Board, in conjunction with the Australian Surveyors’ Boards, will conduct an examination of candidates for registration as surveyors, commencing at 10 a.m. on Monday, 6th March, 1944, at Wellington.

Candidates are notified that their applications, on the proper form, must reach the Secretary of the Board not later than Monday, 21st February, 1944, and that the examination fee must be paid at the same time to the Secretary, from whom application forms and other particulars may be obtained.

Candidates may present themselves for examination in the following written subjects :—

After one year’s service—
(1) Physics, geology, and forestry.
(2) Plotting and plan drawing.
(3) Computations A.

After two years’ service—
(4) Computations B.
(5) Engineering surveying.
(6) Town-planning.

After three years’ service—
(7) Laws and regulations.
(8) Astronomy and geodesy.
(9) Land-surveying design.
(10) Preparation of field notes.
(11) Land classification and valuation.

During the war period candidates who have completed at least two years’ service under articles of indenture will be accepted for examination in any or all of the above-written subjects, and, with candidates presenting themselves for examination in any written subject or subjects, may present themselves for examination at any Chief Surveyor’s Office.

The oral and practical portion of the examination cannot be taken until the candidates’ term of indentureship has been completed. Candidates for the oral and practical portion of the examination must sit in Wellington.

The fees for examination are as follows :—

Alteration in Colour of Leading Light Tower

Position : Lat., 46° 36′·1 S.; long., 168° 21′·7 E. (approx.).
Details : The front white light beacon on Tiwai Point now exhibits a central vertical black stripe on the seaward face of the tower.

Notice to Persons affected by Applications for Licenses under Part III of the Industrial Efficiency Act, 1936

Taking of Fish for Sale

A. N. Kitto, 2 Memorial Avenue, Timaru, has applied for a license to permit him to operate the 28 ft. 9 h.p. engined vessel “Wainana” (not yet registered), using trawl-nets, set-nets, drag-nets, long lines, hand-lines, and crayfish-pots, catches to be landed at Timaru.

This application is in substitution of A. N. Kitto’s application in respect of the vessel “Elsie Evans,” vide Gazette notice dated 13th January, 1944.

Fish Canning

The Golden Bay Fish Co., Ltd., Motueka, has applied for a variation in the conditions of its existing fish-canner’s license in respect of fish-paste only, so as to permit the company to can herrings and other varieties of fish.

Manufacture of Nails

(1) Pearson, Knowles, and Rylands Bros. (N.Z.), Ltd., Auckland, have applied for permission to install four machines for making clouts.

(2) Eclipse Wire Products, Ltd., Palmerston North, have applied for permission to install two machines for making clouts.

Retail Sale and Distribution of Motor-spirits

L. D. Russell has applied for permission to take over from H. W. Lowe the motor-spirit retail license in respect of one petrol pump installed at premises at Albert Street, Whitianga, and to conduct a garage and service-station business at that address.

Persons considering themselves materially affected by the decisions of the Bureau of Industry on these applications should make any desired representations in writing not later than the 17th February, 1944, to G. L. O’Halloran, Secretary, Bureau of Industry, G.P.O. Box 3025, Wellington.

STATE FOREST SERVICE NOTICE

Milling-timber for Sale by Public Tender

State Forest Service,
Hokitika, 27th January, 1944.

NOTICE is hereby given that written tenders for the purchase of the undermentioned milling-timber will close at the office of the State Forest Service, Hokitika, at 4 p.m. on Friday, 11th February, 1944.

SCHEDULE

WESTLAND CONSERVANCY.—WESTLAND LAND DISTRICT

All the milling-timber on that piece of land containing 224 acres, situated in Blocks V and VI, Mawheraiti Survey District, State Forest No. 34, approximately eight miles from the Ikamatua Railway-station.

The total estimated quantity in cubic feet is 190,800, or in board feet 1,200,000, made up as follows :—

Upset price : £1,100.
Time for removal : One year.

Terms of Payment

A marked cheque for a deposit of one-fifth of the purchase-money, together with £1 1s. license fee, must accompany the tender, and the balance be paid in four equal monthly instalments, the first of which shall be made one month after the date of sale.

Special Condition

The successful tenderer shall be liable for payment for any damage caused by fire on the above-mentioned area during the term of the license.

Terms and Conditions

  1. All instalment-payments shall be secured by “on demand” promissory notes made and endorsed to the satisfaction of the Commissioner of State Forests, and interest at the rate of 1 per cent. per annum in excess of current bank overdraft rates will be charged on all notes overdue from the date of maturity to the date of payment.

  2. The right to cut and remove the timber will be sold in accordance with the provisions of the Forests Act, 1921-22, the regulations in force thereunder, and these conditions.

  3. The aforementioned quantities and kinds as to the said timber shall be taken as sufficiently accurate for the purposes of this sale, and no contract for the purchase shall be voidable, nor shall the successful purchaser be entitled to any abatement in price by reason of the said timber being of less quantity or kind as stated herein or in any advertisement having reference to the said timber.
