The Shops and Offices Act, 1921–22, and its Amendments.—Fixing the Closing-hours of Fruiterers’ Shops within the Borough of Pahiatua
WHEREAS a requisition in writing has been forwarded to the Minister of Labour from the occupiers of fruiterers’ shops within the Borough of Pahiatua, pursuant to section 32 of the Shops and Offices Act, 1921–22 :
And whereas he is satisfied that the signatures to such requisition represent a majority of the occupiers of all the said shops within the said borough :
Now, therefore, in pursuance of the said section 32, the Minister of Labour doth hereby direct that on and after the 29th day of May, 1944, all the said shops within the said borough shall be closed on the evening of working-days as follows : On Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays at 6 p.m. and on Fridays and Saturdays at 11 p.m. during the months of April, May, June, July, August, and September in each year.

CAUTION
Ships stopping to pick up a pilot are particularly warned not to approach the outer red buoy too closely, especially during the flood stream, as it sets strongly on to Entrance Ridge.
Industrial Man-power Emergency Regulations 1944.—Declaration of Essential Industry No. 136
IN pursuance of the powers conferred upon him by Regulation 11 of the Industrial Man-power Emergency Regulations 1944, the Minister of Industrial Man-power doth hereby declare the construction of school buildings, including additions and alterations thereto, and including also such construction being carried out by any Government Department, to be an essential industry for the purposes of those regulations.

New Zealand Emergency Standard Specification amended
NOTICE is given of the issue of Amendment No. 1 (dated May, 1944) to the New Zealand Emergency Standard Specification entitled “Simplified Practice for the Manufacture of Women’s Footwear,” which is cited in the Women’s Footwear Control Order 1943.*
Copies of the specification as amended may be obtained from the Secretary, New Zealand Standards Institute, Lambton Quay, Wellington C. 1, price 6d. per copy, post free. Each person who has already purchased a copy of the specification is entitled to a copy of the amendment free of charge.
