THE Public Service Commissioner has made the following appointments in the Public Service :—

Samuel Charles Warren Bush

to be Returning Officer for the Electoral and Licensing Districts of Dunedin South for the purposes of the Electoral Act, 1927, and the Licensing Act, 1908, and their amendments, on and from the 14th day of February, 1944.

William Rickerby

to be Registrar of Marriages and of Births and Deaths for the District of Nuhaka, on and from the 29th day of January, 1944.

Robert Kerr

to be Registrar of Births and Deaths of Maoris at Taharoa, on and from the 1st day of February, 1944.

Dorothy Barbara Timaru Timms (Mrs.)

to be Registrar of Births and Deaths of Maoris at Tuhara, on and from the 1st day of February, 1944.

John Maxwell Cochran

to be Registrar of Births and Deaths of Maoris at Mangamuka, on and from the 1st day of February, 1944.

Olive Janet Moir Clark (Mrs.)

The Wellington Ice-cream Manufacturers’ Employees’ Labour Legislation Suspension Order 1944

IN pursuance of the Labour Legislation Emergency Regulations 1940, the Minister of Labour doth hereby order as follows:—

  1. This Order may be cited as the Wellington Ice-cream Manufacturers’ Employees’ Labour Legislation Suspension Order 1944.

  2. This Order applies to female workers employed by Frozen Products, Ltd., Wellington, Tip Top Ice-cream, Ltd., Wellington, and Etan Ice-cream Ltd., Palmerston North, on work coming within the scope of the Taranaki and Wellington Ice-cream Manufacturers’ Employees’ award dated the 5th day of November, 1941, and recorded in 41 Book of Awards 1485.

  3. The provision of all Acts and regulations and Orders thereunder, and of all awards and industrial agreements under the Industrial Conciliation and Arbitration Act, 1925, and of all other voluntary agreements affecting conditions of employment, are hereby suspended in so far as they operate to prevent the employment of the workers referred to in clause 2 hereof on shift-work, but such suspension shall be subject to the terms and conditions hereinafter set forth.

  4. Three shifts shall be worked—

No. 1 shift from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on five days of the week and 8 a.m. to 12 noon on Saturday ;

No. 2 shift from 6.30 p.m. to 10.30 p.m. on five days of the week : and

No. 3 shift from 10.30 p.m. to 7 a.m. for five shifts per week.

  1. The workers on No. 1 and No. 2 shifts shall receive not less than 1s. 3d. per hour and the workers on No. 3 shift shall receive not less than 1s. 7d. per hour plus, in all cases, the increases granted by the Court of Arbitration in its general orders of the 9th August, 1940, and 31st March, 1942.

  2. The workers on No. 2 and No. 3 shifts shall receive in addition to their wages the sum of 1s. 6d. per shift for each shift worked.

  3. The workers on all shifts shall be supplied with free tea, milk, and sugar.

  4. This Order shall come into force on the day of the date hereof, and shall continue in force for a period of six months.
