THE Public Service Commissioner has made the following appointments in the Public Service :—
Fred Derek Knight
to be Registrar of Electors and Returning Officer for the Electoral District of Hutt for the purposes of the Electoral Act, 1927, and its amendments, and Returning Officer for the Hutt Licensing District for the purposes of the Licensing Act, 1908, and its amendments, on and from the 14th day of June, 1943.
Geoffrey Charles Gordon
to be Registrar of Electors and Returning Officer for the Electoral District of Nelson for the purposes of the Electoral Act, 1927, and its amendments, and Returning Officer for the Nelson Licensing District for the purposes of the Licensing Act, 1908, and its amendments, on and from the 14th day of June, 1943.

Declaring Area to be a Closely Populated Locality for the Purposes of the Motor-vehicles Amendment Act, 1936, Section 3
IN terms of section 3 of the Motor-vehicles Amendment Act, 1936, the Minister of Transport doth hereby declare the area described in the Schedule hereto to be a closely populated locality for the purposes of the said section to the intent that a person driving any motor-vehicle on any road, street, or other place to which the public have access therein shall be subject to the maximum speed limit of thirty miles an hour fixed by the said section.
SCHEDULE
SITUATED within Mount Wellington Road District—
All that portion of the Auckland-Hamilton State Highway No. 7 extending from the south-eastern boundary of One Tree Hill Borough at Sylvia Park Station Road to the northern boundary of Otahuhu Borough at Portage Road, a distance of approximately 61 chains.

Hauraki Plains Drainage Area—Notice of Intention to make and levy Rates
Department of Lands and Survey,
Wellington, 24th June, 1943.
NOTICE is hereby given that it is intended, pursuant to the Hauraki Plains Act, 1926, to make and levy, on the unimproved value of all land within the district constituted under the said Act, the general rates to meet maintenance-costs for the period 1st April, 1943, to 31st March, 1944, as described in the Schedule hereto.
The amount of such rates will be payable in one sum on the 30th July, 1943.
The valuation roll of the district is open for inspection at the office of the Collector of Rates, Chief Drainage Engineer’s Office, Room 45, Government Buildings, Customs Street West, Auckland, and a copy of same may be inspected at the office of the Land Drainage Engineer, at Kerepeehi, at all times at which those offices are open for the transaction of public business.
SCHEDULE
Class A.—On the unimproved value of all lands classified as Class A by the appraiser appointed under the said Act, sixpence and eighty-seven one-hundredths of a penny (6·87d.) in the pound.
Class B.—On the unimproved value of all lands so classified as Class B, threepence and ninety-three one-hundredths of a penny (3·93d.) in the pound.
Class C.—On the unimproved value of all lands so classified as Class C, ninety-eight one-hundredths of a penny (0·98d.) in the pound.
