Notice under the Industrial Man-power Emergency Regulations 1942.
SAWMILLING INDUSTRY.
NOTICE is hereby given that, in pursuance of the Industrial Man-power Emergency Regulations 1942, the Timber Controller hereby requires and directs that Labour Day shall be observed as a holiday by all undertakings in the sawmilling industry, and that, notwithstanding the observance of that holiday, every sawmill shall operate for not less than forty hours during the week in which the holiday occurs.

Notice to Persons affected by Applications for Licenses under Part III of the Industrial Efficiency Act, 1936.
Taking of Fish for Sale.
AN application has been received from J. A. Pearce, 12 Ngaio Road, Kaiwarra, to take fish for sale by means of the fishing-vessel “Hope,” Wn. 871, using long lines and hand-lines, set-nets, and drag-nets, catches to be landed at Paremata.
An application has been received from G. Linton, 35 Victoria Crescent, Nelson, for a variation in the conditions in his existing license to enable him to use trawl-nets in addition to long lines, hand-lines, set-nets, and drag-nets.
Any persons who consider they will be materially affected by the decisions of the Bureau of Industry on the above applications, and who wish to make representations accordingly, must furnish them in writing not later than the 29th October, 1942.
Taking of Fish for Sale.
An application has been received from C. J. Johnston, Karitane Post-office, Karitane, Otago, to take fish for sale by means of the fishing-vessel “Omega” (not yet registered), using set-nets, drag-nets, long lines, hand-lines, and crayfish-pots, catches to be landed at Karitane.
Any person who considers he will be materially affected by the decision of the Bureau of Industry on this application, and who wishes to make representations accordingly, must furnish them in writing not later than 5th November, 1942.

- Settlement Land in Otago Land District for Selection on Renewable Lease.
District Lands and Survey Office,
Dunedin, 16th October, 1942.
NOTICE is hereby given that the undermentioned sections are open for selection on renewable lease under the Land Act, 1924, and the Land for Settlements Act, 1925; and applications will be received at the District Lands and Survey Office, Dunedin, up to 4 o’clock p.m. on Monday, 9th November, 1942.
Applicants should appear personally for examination at the District Lands and Survey Office, Dunedin, on Wednesday, 11th November, 1942, at 10.30 o’clock a.m., but if any applicant is unable to attend he may be examined by any other Land Board or by any Commissioner of Crown Lands.
Applicants are required to produce documentary evidence of their financial position and farming experience.
The ballot will be held immediately upon conclusion of the examination of applicants, and the successful applicant is required to pay immediately at conclusion of ballot a deposit comprising the first half-year’s rent, broken-period rent, lease fee, and deposit in reduction of weighting for improvements.
SCHEDULE.
OTAGO LAND DISTRICT.—FIRST-CLASS SETTLEMENT LAND.
Maniatoto County.—Blackstone Survey District.—Downs Settlement.
Sections 2s and 10s; Area, 643 acres 1 rood 18 perches. Capital value, £2,270 (includes £500 for cultivation and grassing); half-yearly rent, £56 15s.
Weighted with £1,930 for improvements, comprising seven-roomed house of sun-dried bricks, wool-shed and yards, stable and chaff-shed, cow-byré, concrete dip and draining-pens, poultry-shed, old dwelling, plantation, fencing, and oats. This sum is payable in cash or by a deposit of £830, and the balance over a period of thirty-three years by sixty-five half-yearly instalments of £32 12s. 8d. and one final instalment of £239 19s. 8d. principal and interest.
This is a grazing property situated off the Becks-Cambrian Road, two miles and a half from Becks Post-office, two miles from school, and twelve miles from Lauder Railway-station; access is by metalled road from Lauder. The soil is a light to medium loam on clay and gravel formation; watered by race. Aspect generally open, part easy sloping country, part rolling to somewhat steep faces on north. About 140 acres commanded by the Downs Irrigation Scheme, and altogether about 500 acres easily ploughable. About 150 acres good pasture, 420 acres fair to worn-out pastures, 9 acres lucerne, 45 acres cultivated, and 19 acres swamp land and gullies. Altitude about 1,100 to 1,600 ft.
NOTE.—The selector of this land will require to enter into an agreement concerning the water-supply, pursuant to the provisions of section 15 of the Reserves and other Lands Disposal Act, 1932. Form of agreement may be perused at the office of the undersigned.
