Notice to Mariners No. 19 of 1942.

Marine Department,
Wellington, N.Z., 2lst August, 1942.

NEW ZEALAND.—NORTH ISLAND.—BAY OF ISLANDS.
Dangerous Area established.

Position : Cape Wiwiki. Lat., 35° 09′ 18″ S.; long., 174° 07′ 45″ E. (Chart 1090).
Details : A dangerous area due to mines has been established
within the following limits : From the above position in an 000° direction for one mile ; thence in a 102° direction to Cape Brett ;
thence along the shore to Tapeka Point; thence in a 225° direction to the mouth of the Waitangi River ; thence along the shore to Cape Wiwiki.

No vessel or boat shall enter, or leave, or move, or anchor within this area except under special license issued, in the case of vessels or boats other than local small craft, by the Naval Control of Shipping Authorities, Auckland, or, in the case of local small craft, by the Military Authorities, Russell.
Fishing in the whole area is prohibited.

Warning: Any vessel or boat disregarding this prohibition will be fired upon and will be liable for any damage caused.

Passage through the area is highly dangerous, and under no circumstances must the routes and conditions specified in the said licenses be departed from. A cautionary note to this effect is to be prominently placed on the charts concerned clear of navigational details and numbered 1.

A note “Dangerous Area—see Caution No. 1” is to be inserted in the area defined.

Additional prohibited Fishing Area established.

Position : Cape Brett. Lat., 35° 10′ 14″ S.; long., 174° 19′ 28″ E. (Chart 1090).
Details : Fishing is prohibited in the area within the following limits : From the above position in an 045° direction for thirteen miles ; thence, by an arc of a circle with Cape Brett Lighthouse as

centre, to the shore northward of Cape Wiwiki ; thence along the shore to Cape Wiwiki; thence in an 000° direction for one mile ; thence in a 102° direction to Cape Brett.

Warning: Any vessel or boat disregarding this prohibition will be fired upon and will be liable for any damage caused. A cautionary note to this effect is to be prominently placed on the charts concerned clear of navigational details and numbered 2.

A note “Fishing prohibited—see Caution No. 2” is to be inserted in the area defined.

NEW ZEALAND.—NORTH ISLAND.—AUCKLAND HARBOUR.
Lighted Buoy established.

Position : 270½°, 3,725 ft. from Bean Rocks Lighthouse. Lat., 36° 50′ S.; long., 174° 50′ E. (approx.).
Abridged description: Occ. ev. 12 sec.
Details: A black can buoy exhibiting an occulting red light every 12 sec., eclipse 6 sec., has been established in the above position.

NOTE.—All vessels entering or leaving the harbour must pass between this buoy and the green occulting light on the pile beacon about 700 ft. north-westward.

Notice to Mariners No. 21 of 1942.

NEW ZEALAND.—NORTH ISLAND.—NAPIER HARBOUR.
Alterations in Buoys.

Position : Orange light, Glasgow Wharf. Lat., 39° 28½′ S.; long., 176° 55½′ E. (approx.).
Details: (1) The black can buoy northward of Auckland Rock Shoal has been moved to a position 341°, 2,150 ft. from the above light, and now marks the outer eastern edge of the new 30 ft. dredged channel.
(2) The black can buoy with flashing red light will shortly be moved to a position 324°, 1,300 ft. from the above light, and will mark the eastern edge of the new dredged channel.

NOTE.—All vessels must keep westward of these two buoys.
(3) The black conical buoy southward of Auckland Rock Shoal will shortly be moved to a position 332°, 800 ft. from the above light, and will mark the edge of the new dredged swinging basin.

NOTE.—Vessels must keep to the south and west of this buoy.
