The Western Side of Portion of Mudie Street, in the City
of Lower Hutt, exempted from the Provisions of Section
128 of the Public Works Act, 1928, subject to a
Condition as to the Building-line.

ORDER IN COUNCIL.
At the Government House at Wellington, this 26th day of August,
1942.
Present:
HIS EXCELLENCY THE GOVERNOR-GENERAL IN COUNCIL.
IN pursuance and exercise of the powers conferred by the
Public Works Act, 1928, and of every other power in
anywise enabling him in this behalf, His Excellency the
Governor-General of the Dominion of New Zealand, acting
by and with the advice and consent of the Executive Council
of the said Dominion, doth hereby approve of the following
resolution passed by the Lower Hutt City Council on the
thirteenth day of July, one thousand nine hundred and
forty-two, viz.:—
“ That the Lower Hutt City Council, being the local
authority having control of the streets in the City of
Lower Hutt, by resolution declares that the provisions
of section one hundred and twenty-eight of the Public
Works Act, 1928, shall not apply to the western side
of Mudie Street, adjoining Lot 166, D.P. 50, part
Section 17, Hutt Registration District, Block XIII,
Belmont Survey District, and contained in Certificate of
Title, Volume 120, folio 46”;
subject to the condition that no building or part of a
building shall at any time be erected on the land fronting
the western side of the portion of Mudie Street (described
in the Schedule hereto) within a distance of thirty-three feet
from the centre-line of the said portion of street.
SCHEDULE.
THE western side of all that portion of street situated in
the Wellington Land District, City of Lower Hutt, known
as Mudie Street, fronting Lot 166 on D.P. 50, part Section
17, Hutt District. As the same is more particularly delineated
on the plan marked P.W.D. 114932, deposited in the office of
the Minister of Public Works at Wellington, and thereon
coloured red.

The Metal Trades Employees' Labour Legislation Modification Order
1942.
IN pursuance of the Labour Legislation Emergency Regulations
1940, the Minister of Labour doth hereby order as follows.

  1. This Order may be cited as the Metal Trades Employees'
    Labour Legislation Modification Order 1942.
  2. This Order applies to the New Zealand Woolpack and Textiles
    Ltd., Foxton, and to the employees of that company whose employ-
    ment is subject to the New Zealand Metal Trades Employees’ award
    dated the 30th day of June, 1941, and recorded in 41 Book of Awards
  3. While a forty-four hour week is being worked in the esta-
    blishment of the company the provisions of the award referred to in
    clause 2 hereof shall be and are hereby modified to enable the workers
    referred to in the said clause 2 to be employed for forty hours per
    week from Monday to Friday inclusive, as prescribed by the said
    award, and for an additional four hours on Saturday morning at
    ordinary rates of pay, but such modification shall be subject to the
    terms and conditions hereinafter set forth.
  4. The ordinary rate of wages for the hours prescribed in clause 3
    hereof shall be 2s. 10½d. per hour.
  5. The rate provided in clause 4 hereof shall be subject to the
    provisions of the General Order of the Court of Arbitration dated
    the 9th August, 1940, made in pursuance of the Rates of Wages
    Emergency Regulations 1940, and to the General Order of the said
    Court dated the 31st March, 1942, and to any future Orders made in
    pursuance of the said regulations.
  6. This Order shall come into effect on the day of the date hereof.

    The Holidays Labour Legislation Modification Order 1941, Variation
    No. 8.
    IN pursuance of the Labour Legislation Emergency Regulations
    1940, the Minister of Labour doth hereby order as follows.—
  7. This Order may be cited as the Holidays Labour Legislation
    Modification Order 1941, Variation No. 8.
  8. This Order shall be read together with and deemed part of
    the Holidays Labour Legislation Modification Order 1941 (hereinafter
    referred to as “the principal Order”).
  9. The principal Order is varied as follows, namely :—
    The provisions of the principal Order shall not apply to the
    workers coming within the scope of the Wellington Industrial
    District Dental Technicians’ award, dated the 10th day of March,
    1938, and recorded in 38 Book of Awards 339, or the Wellington
    Industrial District Female Dental Assistants’ award, dated the 31st
    day of August, 1939, and recorded in 39 Book of Awards 1209.
  10. This Order shall come into effect on the day of the date hereof.
    Dated at Wellington, this 26th day of August, 1942.

    The Overtime and Holidays Labour Legislation Suspension Order 1941,
    Variation No. 13.
    IN pursuance of the Labour Legislation Emergency Regulations
    1940, the Minister of Labour doth hereby order as follows :—
  11. This Order may be cited as the Overtime and Holidays Labour
    Legislation Suspension Order 1941, Variation No. 13.
  12. This Order shall be read together with and deemed part of
    the Overtime and Holidays Labour Legislation Suspension Order
    1941 (hereinafter referred to as “the principal Order”).
  13. The principal Order is varied as follows, namely :—
    The provisions of the principal Order shall not apply to the
    workers coming within the scope of the Wellington Industrial District

    and recorded in 38 Book of Awards 339, or the Wellington

    The Cotton Drill Control Notice 1942, Amendment No. 1.
    PURSUANT to the Factory Emergency Regulations 1939, I,
    George Augustus Pascoe, Factory Controller, hereby give
    notice and direct as follows:—
  15. This notice may be cited as the Cotton Drill Control
    Notice 1942, Amendment No. 1, and shall be read together
    with and deemed part of the Cotton Drill Control Notice
    1942* (hereinafter referred to as “the principal notice”).
  16. This notice shall come into force on the day next
    following the date of publication hereof in the Gazette.
  17. Clause 5 of the principal notice is hereby amended by
    omitting the words “and of a weight not less than 6 oz. per
    square yard.”

    The Cardboard Box and Carton Control Notice 1942.
    PURSUANT to the Factory Emergency Regulations 1939,
    I, George Augustus Pascoe, Factory Controller, hereby
    direct and give notice as follows:—
  1. This notice may be cited as the Cardboard Box and
    Carton Control Notice 1942.
  2. This notice shall come into force on the day next
    following the date of publication hereof in the Gazette.
  3. (1) After the date of the coming into force of this
    notice no person shall employ more than two colours of
    printing inks in the production of any cardboard box or
    carton of any description unless he has produced the same
    kind of cardboard box or carton before that date.
    (2) Every person who after the date of the coming into
    force of this notice produces a cardboard box or carton of
    a kind that he has produced before that date shall as far as
    possible reduce the number of colours of printing inks used
    by him in connection therewith if a saving of time and
    material can be effected thereby.
  4. After the coming into force of this notice no person
    shall manufacture any cardboard box or carton, and no
    person who has manufactured any cardboard box or carton
    shall use, sell, or otherwise dispose of the same, unless it
    conforms to the following requirements:—
    (a) The top and bottom thereof shall be of the same
    shape and size and shall be either square, rectangular, oval, or circular:
    (b) There shall be no projecting edges except in the
    case of a powder-box;
    (c) If the box or carton is manufactured for the purpose
    of holding more than one article, the size shall be
    such that there will be a distance of not more
    than ¼ in. from the nearest part of each article
    to the nearest edge of the box or carton and from
    the nearest part of the other article, or if there
    will be more than one other article in the box or
    carton then to the nearest part of at least two
    other articles:
    Provided that any person who before the
    coming into force of this notice has manufactured
    any cardboard box or carton which does not con-
    form to the foregoing requirements may use, sell,
    or otherwise dispose of the same at any time
    before the 1st day of January, 1943.
  5. Within seven days after the date of the publication
    of this notice in the Gazette every manufacturer of card-
    board boxes or cartons who has in his possession or control
    any boxes or cartons which do not conform to the require-
    ments set out in clause 4 hereof shall furnish in writing to
    the Factory Controller full particulars of those boxes and
    cartons, stating the quantity of each type.
  6. After the coming into force of this notice no person
    shall manufacture any suit or costume box unless it is of
    one of the following sizes:—
    (a) Chart size: 17½ in. by 14½ in. by 2¾ in.
    (b) Postal size: 17½ in. by 11½ in. by 3¼ in.
