Appointments to and Promotions in the 2nd New Zealand Expeditionary Force.


Army Department,
Wellington, 12th January, 1942.

HIS Excellency the Governor-General has been pleased to approve of the following appointments to and promotions in the 2nd New Zealand Expeditionary Force :—

8TH BRIGADE GROUP.

Brigadier W. H. Cunningham, C.B.E., D.S.O., V.D., relinquishes the appointment of Commander, 8th Brigade Group, is appointed General Officer Commanding in Fiji, and is granted the temporary rank of Major-General whilst holding such appointment. Dated 8th January, 1942.

Lieutenant-Colonel L. Potter, N.Z.S.C., is appointed Commander, 14th Infantry Brigade, and is granted the temporary rank of Colonel as from 1st January, 1942, and relinquishes the temporary rank of Colonel, and is granted the temporary rank of Brigadier as from 8th January, 1942, whilst holding the appointment of Commander, 14th Infantry Brigade.

Lieutenant-Colonel L. G. Goss, N.Z.S.C., is appointed General Staff Officer, 1st Grade, 8th Brigade Group, and is granted the temporary rank of Colonel whilst holding such appointment. Dated 1st January, 1942.

Colonel (temp.) L. G. Goss relinquishes the appointment of General Staff Officer, 1st Grade, 8th Brigade Group, and the temporary rank of Colonel, and is appointed Commander, 8th Infantry Brigade, and is granted the temporary rank of Brigadier whilst holding such appointment. Dated 8th January, 1942.

Major W. Murphy, M.C., N.Z.S.C., to be Lieutenant-Colonel, and is appointed Commanding Officer, 35th Infantry (Mixed) Battalion. Dated 2nd January, 1942.

Lieutenant-Colonel W. Murphy, M.C., relinquishes the appointment of Commanding Officer, 35th Infantry (Mixed) Battalion, and is appointed General Staff Officer, 1st Grade, 8th Brigade Group. Dated 8th January, 1942.

Major G. H. Tomline, M.C., to be Lieutenant-Colonel, and is appointed Commanding Officer, 35th Infantry (Mixed) Battalion. Dated 8th January, 1942.

HIS Excellency the Governor-General has been pleased to approve of the following appointments, promotions, and transfers of officers of the New Zealand Military Forces :—

N.Z. TEMPORARY STAFF.

Major E. F. J. Reeves, M.C., relinquishes the appointment of Brigade Major, 2nd N.Z. Infantry Brigade, and is appointed General Staff Officer, 3rd Grade (Operations), Army Headquarters, Wellington. Dated 17th December, 1941.

Lieutenant A. Fuller, M.M., relinquishes the appointment of Staff Officer, “A” Duties, Central Military District, is appointed Deputy Assistant Adjutant-General, Central Military District, and is granted the temporary rank of Captain while so employed. Dated 1st January, 1942.

Lieutenant D. W. Sinclair, General Staff Officer, 3rd Grade (Signals), Central Military District, Wellington, is granted the temporary rank of Captain while so employed. Dated 1st January, 1942.

Lieutenant A. T. Bustard, General Staff Officer, 3rd Grade (Intelligence), Central Military District, is granted the temporary rank of Captain while so employed. Dated 1st January, 1942.

Lieutenant J. D. M. Todd, District Transport Officer, Northern Military District, is granted the temporary rank of Captain. Dated 29th December, 1941.

Lieutenant J. Osborne, Adjutant, 2nd Battalion, National Military Reserve, is granted the temporary rank of Captain while so employed. Dated 1st January, 1942.

Lieutenant R. G. Foulkes, M.C., is granted the temporary rank of Captain. Dated 1st January, 1942.

2nd Lieutenant R. G. Hayward is granted the temporary rank of Lieutenant. Dated 2nd January, 1942.

Lieutenant K. F. S. Cox ceases to be attached to “Q” Branch, Headquarters, Southern Military District, and is appointed General Staff Officer, 3rd Grade, Area No. 10, Christchurch. Dated 17th December, 1941.

Gordon Calder Martin to be Lieutenant (temp.), and is appointed Technical Assistant to the Chief Inspector of Munitions, Army Inspection Department. Dated 31st December, 1941.

Alan Smith to be Lieutenant (temp.), and is appointed Inspecting Ordnance Officer, Army Inspection Department. Dated 1st January, 1942.

2nd Lieutenant (temp.) P. S. Boyes, 3rd Reserve Mechanical Transport Company, N.Z. Army Service Corps, to be 2nd Lieutenant (temp.), and is appointed General Staff Officer, 3rd Grade, Home Guard, Area No. 9, Nelson. Dated 11th December, 1941.

THE 1ST LIGHT ARMOURED FIGHTING VEHICLE REGIMENT (CANTERBURY YEOMANRY CAVALRY).
