Nomination of Persons qualified for Appointment as Assessors
in Criminal Trials under the Cook Islands Act, 1915.

PURSUANT to the authority vested in me by section two
hundred and ninety-five of the Cook Islands Act, 1915,
I, Cyril Louis Norton Newall, the Governor-General of the
Dominion of New Zealand, do hereby nominate the persons
named in the Schedule hereto as persons qualified for appoint-
ment as Assessors under the said Act generally in criminal
trials in the High Court of the Cook Islands in the Island of
Niue, and I declare that this Warrant shall take effect on the
eighteenth day of December, one thousand nine hundred and
forty-one.

The following persons presently residing in the Island of
Niue :-

Bailey, Alfred Aston.
Hepburn, Thomas Clouston.
McIntyre, Samuel Findlay.
Lupo, Harry.

Notice of taking Land at Dunedin under Sections 140, 141, 142,
and 143 of the Harbours Act, 1923.

BY virtue and in pursuance of the power and authorities
vested in me by the one-hundred-and-fortieth, one-
hundred-and-forty-first, one-hundred-and-forty-second, and
one-hundred-and-forty-third sections of the Harbours Act,
1923, I, Cyril Louis Norton Newall, the Governor-General of
the Dominion of New Zealand, do hereby, on behalf of His
Majesty the King, give notice to the Otago Harbour Board
that one month from the date of the date hereof I shall enter
upon and take possession of the land described in the Schedule
hereto.

SCHEDULE.

APPROXIMATE area of the piece of land : 11·24 perches.
Being Section 32, Block LX XIII, Town of Dunedin, situated
in the City of Dunedin (D.P. 5448).

In the Otago Land District ; as the same is more par-
ticularly delineated on the plan marked L.O. 8758, deposited
in the office of the Minister of Railways at Wellington, and
thereon edged green.

As witness the hand of His Excellency the Governor-General,
this 24th day of December, 1941.

to approve of the following appointments, promotions,
and resignations in the Royal New Zealand Navy :-

Captain Edwin Grave Morris, Royal Navy (Retired),
appointed H.M.N.Z.S. “Philomel II” additional, as Director
and Registrar of Royal New Zealand Naval Reserves in
continuation, and as Naval Officer in Charge, Wellington,
to date 20th January, 1941. (To serve in the rank of Captain
and receive a consolidated salary on the pre-existing scale
fixed for the appointment of Director of Naval Reserves
(A.F.O. 2139/39, footnote).)

Acting Captain George Robert Deverell, Royal Navy,
lent Royal New Zealand Navy, to date 8th August, 1941,
and appointed H.M.N.Z.S. “Monowai” in command, vice
McClintock, to date 28th November, 1941.

Commander Stephen Wentworth Roskill, Royal Navy,
lent Royal New Zealand Navy, to date 17th September,
1941, and appointed H.M.N.Z.S. “Leander,” vice Vereker,
to date 2nd December, 1941.

Acting-Commander Charles William Medlicott Vereker,
Royal Navy, appointed H.M.N.Z.S. “Philomel” additional,
for passage, to date 3rd December, 1941.

Lieutenant-Commander Alexander David Boyle, Royal
Navy, appointed H.M.N.Z.S. “Philomel II” additional, to
date 8th December, 1941, as Naval Officer in Charge, Lyttel-
ton, vice Rowsell.

Lieutenant-Commander Frank Mountifort Beasley, Royal
Navy, appointed H.M.N.Z.S. “Philomel II” additional, to
date 14th July, 1941, as Director of Naval Intelligence,
Wellington.

Lieutenant-Commander Colin Cargill Beveridge Mackenzie,
Royal Navy, appointed H.M.N.Z.S. “Leander” (T), vice
Farnshawe (sick), to date 12th November, 1941.

Lieutenant-Commander Gerard Talbot-Smith, Royal Navy,
appointed H.M.N.Z.S. “Philomel” additional, to date 6th
December, 1941, for passage.

Lieutenant-Commander Peregrine Robert Dearden, Royal
Navy (Retired), appointed H.M.N.Z.S. “Philomel” additional
on relief, as Training Officer. (Date to be reported.)

Lieutenant-Commander Richard Clive Elmer Harding,
Royal Navy (Retired), appointed H.M.N.Z.S. “Philomel,”
to date 5th December, 1941, as Recruiting Staff Officer, vice
Critchley.

Temporary Acting Lieutenant-Commander Thomas Sand-
ford Critchley, appointed H.M.N.Z.S. “Philomel” additional,
to date 5th December, 1941, and H.M.N.Z.S. “Philomel II”
additional, as Naval Officer in Charge, Fiji. (Date to be
reported.)

Lieutenant Francis St. Philip Woodhouse, Royal Navy,
lent Royal New Zealand Navy, to date 27th July, 1941, and
appointed H.M.N.Z.S. “Leander,” (N), to date 2nd December,
1941, vice Talbot-Smith.

Lieutenant Charles William Dyer, Royal Navy, lent Royal
New Zealand Navy, to date 17th September, 1941, and
