Date of Election by Fire-insurance Companies to fill the Extraordinary Vacancy on the Wellington Fire Board.

PURSUANT to the Fire Brigades Act, 1926, and the rules thereunder, the Minister charged for the time being with the administration of the said Act doth hereby appoint Thursday, the 26th day of February, 1942, to be the date for holding the election of one member of the Wellington Fire Board by the fire-insurance companies concerned, such election being held to fill the extraordinary vacancy caused by the resignation of Mr. G. C. Edwards.

The Freezing Industry Labour Legislation Suspension Order 1942.
WHEREAS it appears to me to be necessary for securing the public safety, the defence of New Zealand, the efficient prosecution of any war in which His Majesty may be engaged, and for maintaining supplies and services essential to the life of the community, I, Patrick Charles Webb, Minister of Labour, pursuant to the Labour Legislation Emergency Regulations 1940, do hereby order as follows:—

This Order may be cited as the Freezing Industry Labour Legislation Suspension Order 1942.

This Order applies to Messrs. Swift and Company (N.Z.), Limited, Wairoa, and to female workers employed by that company in the Canning Department of its works at Wairoa.

The provisions of all Acts and all regulations thereunder and of the New Zealand (except Westland) Freezing Workers’ Award dated the 12th day of July, 1941, and recorded in Book of Awards, Volume 41, page 692, shall be and are hereby suspended in so far as such provisions operate to prevent the employment of the workers referred to in clause 2 hereof from Monday to Friday, inclusive, between the hours of 6 a.m. and 8 a.m. and between the hours of 5 p.m. and 7 p.m., and on Saturday for four hours between the hours of 9 a.m. and 12 noon, but such suspension shall be subject to the following condition—viz., that time worked before 8 a.m. or after 5 p.m. and time worked on Saturday shall be paid for at the rate of time and a half in addition to the ordinary weekly wage. In all other respects the award provisions shall apply.

This Order shall come into effect on and from the 9th day of February, 1942.

The Tramways Industry Labour Legislation Modification Order 1942.
WHEREAS it appears to me to be necessary for securing the public safety, the defence of New Zealand, the efficient prosecution of any war in which His Majesty may be engaged, and for maintaining supplies and services essential to the life of the community, I, Patrick Charles Webb, Minister of Labour, pursuant to the Labour Legislation Emergency Regulations 1940, do hereby order as follows:—

This Order may be cited as the Tramways Industry Labour Legislation Modification Order 1942.

This Order applies to all workers who are bound by awards and industrial agreements to which the New Zealand Tramways Authorities’ Employees’ Industrial Union of Workers is a party and to the employers of such workers.

The provisions of the awards and industrial agreements referred to in clause 2 hereof shall be and are hereby modified to the extent that the said workers or any of them may be called back to work on an additional day in the week subject to the following conditions, viz.:—
(1) Workers called back in pursuance of this Order shall be given a minimum of eight hours’ work, and payment for all time worked on the additional day shall be at the rate of time and a half. In all other respects the conditions of the award or industrial agreement shall apply.
(2) Sunday shall not be regarded as an additional day under this Order.
(4) This Order shall come into effect on and from the date of publication hereof in the Gazette.

Kaitaia Swamp Drainage Area.—Penalty on Overdue Rates.

IN pursuance of section 76 of the Rating Act, 1925, and the Swamp Drainage Act, 1915, and its amendments, the ratepayers within the Kaitaia Rating Area are hereby notified that 10 per cent. additional will be added to all rates for the year ending 31st March, 1942, unpaid on the 30th March, 1942.
Rates may be paid at any money-order office, or to the Collector of Rates, Lands and Survey Department, P.O. Box 2205, Auckland C.1.

Amending a Notice defining Lands in North Auckland Land District to which Water is supplied pursuant to Section 3 of the Land Laws Amendment Act, 1939.
WHEREAS by section 5 of the Land Act, 1924, it is therein provided that every Proclamation, Order in Council, or other instrument (whether made under or by virtue of that Act or of any former Land Act), and all regulations, by-laws, conditions, or rules made by the Governor-General, the Minister, or any Land Board, may in like manner be altered, amended, or revoked from time to time:
And whereas an error was made in the description of certain land in the North Auckland Land District in the Schedule to a notice of the 5th day of August, 1941, and published in the New Zealand Gazette of the 7th day of that month defining lands to which water is supplied pursuant to section 3 of the Land Laws Amendment Act, 1939:
Now, therefore, I, James Gillisie Barclay, for the Minister of Lands, in pursuance and exercise of the power and authority conferred by the said section 5 of the Land Act, 1924, do hereby amend the said Schedule by substituting the word “Matakohe” for the word “Matakohe.”

The Lemon Marketing Regulations 1940.—Notice fixing Prices of certain Grades.

Wellington, 31st January, 1942.
PURSUANT to Regulation 5 : 1 of the Lemon Marketing Regulations 1940, I hereby fix the following prices per bushel to be paid by the Marketing Department for lemons of Fancy Grade and Commercial Grade respectively, delivered to the Department during the undermentioned period.
The prices are fixed on an average basic price of 7s. 10½d. for sufficient fruit which when cured will pack a bushel case.
Period of delivery (both days inclusive): 1st February to 28th February, 1942:—
Loose packed fresh lemons, Fancy Grade .. 5 9
Loose packed fresh lemons, Commercial grade .. 4 9
