The runs are situated about three miles from Mossburn
Railway-station, School, and Post-office, and access is by
easy formed road metalled for the most part. They form
the Crown portion of what is known as "West Dome Station."
Altitude runs from 1,000 ft. to 6,000 ft. above sea-level. At
the southern portion of the runs, nearest Mossburn, where
the old homestead is situated, lies approximately 1,200 acres
of flat land which, although of light quality, offers prospects
of development in the way of growing winter feed. The
carrying capacity of West Dome of late years has been in the
vicinity of eight thousand sheep, which includes about half
the number of ewes.
Conditions.
-
Date of possession: 1st March, 1942.
-
Term of license: Twenty-one years from 1st March,
1942, with contingent right of renewal over the whole run or,
if subdivided, over one subdivision. -
One-half year's rent, license fee (£1 ls.), amount for
weighting for improvements, and statutory declaration to
be lodged by the successful applicant immediately his
application is declared successful. Rent commences from
date of possession, and is payable half yearly in advance. -
Applicants must not be less than twenty-one years of age.
-
Personal residence to commence within one year and to
be continuous thereafter. -
No person may hold more than one pastoral run except
on the recommendation of the Land Board and with the
approval of the Minister of Lands. If a husband holds a
run his wife is deemed to be a runholder, and vice versa. -

burning of snow tussock, burning of other tussock, except
in July, August, and September ; to prevent growth and
spread of gorse, broom, sweetbriar, or other noxious weeds or
plants; to keep down rabbits; and to refrain from burning
grass during such months as the Commissioner of Crown
Lands shall from time to time determine. -
To ensure that the winter carrying capacity is maintained and that the soil fertility and plant cover are not
injuriously affected the licensee shall exercise due care in
the stocking of the land and shall not overstock. For the
purposes of this condition a reasonable winter stock carrying
capacity is considered to be 6,500 sheep on the basis of a
count of one for dry sheep and one and a half for breeding-
ewes, and the licensee shall not during the winter months
depasture more than this number of sheep on the runs
without the prior consent of the Land Board. -
The shelter-belts on the run not to be cut without the
prior consent of the Land Board, which may be given subject
to such conditions, including the payment of royalties and
the planting of new trees, as the Board thinks fit. -
License is liable to forfeiture if conditions are violated.
