Appointments in the Public Service.

THE Public Service Commissioner has made the following appointments in the Public Service:—
Frederick Arthur Taylor,
to be Registrar of Marriages for the District of Pleasant Point for the purposes of the Marriage Act, 1908, and Registrar of Births and Deaths for the District of Pleasant Point for the purposes of the Births and Deaths Registration Act, 1924, on and from the 8th day of October, 1941.
Alfred Riley Murdoch,
Freeborn George Ross Cole Parsons,
Redvers Henry Clivé Christie, and
John Noel Spooner,
to be Inspectors for the purposes of the Meat Act, 1939, on and from the 1st October, 1941.
Robert Ernest Wilson,
to be Deputy Registrar of Births and Deaths of Maoris at Clevedon, on and from 3rd October, 1941.
Edward Earl McLaughlin,
to be Deputy Registrar of Births and Deaths of Maoris at Herekino, on and from 15th October, 1941.

Notice of Intention to take the Leasehold Estates or Interests in Land in the Borough of Whakatane for a Post-office.
NOTICE is hereby given that it is proposed, under the provisions of the Public Works Act, 1928, to take the leasehold estate or interest in the land first described in the Schedule hereto, created by a memorandum of lease to Armstrong and Company, Limited, for a term of fourteen years from the 1st day of January, 1938, and registered in the Land Registry Office at Auckland as No. 17593, and the leasehold estate or interest in the land secondly described in the Schedule hereto, created by a memorandum of lease to Armstrong and Company, Limited, for a term of fourteen years from the 1st day of October, 1937, and registered in the Land Registry Office at Auckland as No. 17594, for a post-office: And notice is hereby further given that the plan of the land in respect of which the leasehold estates or interests are required to be taken is deposited in the post-office at Whakatane, and is there open for inspection; and that all persons affected by the taking of the said leasehold estates or interests should, if they have any well-grounded objections to the taking of such leasehold estates or interests, set forth the same in writing, and send such writing, within forty days from the first publication of this notice, to the Minister of Public Works at Wellington.

APPROXIMATE areas of the pieces of land in respect of which the leasehold estates or interests are required to be taken:—

In the Auckland Land District; as the same are more particularly delineated on the plan marked P.W.D. 112117, deposited in the office of the Minister of Public Works at Wellington, and thereon coloured yellow.

Notification of approval of amending Rules: Waitaki Acclimatization Society.

PURSUANT to the provisions of section 25 of the Animals Protection and Game Act, 1921–22, I hereby notify that two copies of the amending rules made by the Waitaki Acclimatization Society on the 4th day of June, 1941, have been forwarded to me and were approved on the 24th day of October, 1941.

IN pursuance of the powers conferred upon me by the Post and Telegraph Act, 1928 (hereinafter termed “the said Act”), and by the regulations made on the 12th May, 1914, and published in the New Zealand Gazette of the 21st May, 1914, the following officer, at the address set against his name, is hereby appointed transmitting and receiving officer for the purpose of dealing with all notices by telegraph sent under the said Act or regulations, and of signing such certificates in relation to the service of any such notices as are required or authorized to be signed or given under the said Act or the regulations aforesaid:—

Declaring Places to be Prohibited Places under the Defence Emergency Regulations 1941.
PURSUANT to the Defence Emergency Regulations 1941, the Minister of Defence doth hereby declare the places specified in the Schedule hereto to be prohibited places for the purposes of the Defence Emergency Regulations 1941.
SCHEDULE.
BATTERY POINT DEFENCE AREA.
ALL that area in the Canterbury Land District, being Rural Section 130, part Reserve 68, roads and Crown land, situated in the Borough of Lyttelton, and bounded as follows: Commencing at a point on the southern side of the Lyttelton-Summer Road, the said point being the northernmost corner of Lot 39, D.P. 9983; thence north-easterly generally along the southern side of the said Road to the westernmost corner of Rural Section 4712; thence south-easterly along the south-western boundary of that rural section and its production across a road and along the south-western boundary of Lot 1, D.P. 4807, and its production to Lyttelton Harbour; thence westerly generally along low-water mark to a point in line with the production in a south-easterly direction of the north-eastern boundary of Lot 39, D.P. 9983; thence north-westerly to and along the last-mentioned boundary to the commencing point. As the same is more particularly delineated on the plan marked Army P.P. 45, 205/3/1, deposited at Army Headquarters, Wellington, and thereon bordered red.
GODLEY HEAD RESERVE.
All that area in the Canterbury Land District, being part Reserve 60, road-lines and Crown land, situated in the Borough of Sumner, and bounded towards the west by a straight line being the eastern boundary of Lot 1, D.P. 4807, and its production northwards to the ocean and southwards to Lyttelton Harbour; towards the north generally by the ocean; towards the east generally by closed roads, part Reserve 2055, and Crown land as described as a prohibited place by a notice published in New Zealand Gazette No. 70, dated 21st August, 1941, page 2625; and towards the south generally by Lyttelton Harbour. As the same is more particularly delineated on the plan marked Army P.P. 46, 205/3/1, deposited at Army Headquarters, Wellington, and thereon bordered red.
OPAU COAST DEFENCE AREA.
All that area in the Wellington Land District, bounded by a line commencing at the south-western corner of the land shown on plan A/3091 (Opau Block), deposited in the office of the District Land Registrar at Wellington; thence south-easterly along the south-western boundary of that land to its south-eastern corner; thence northerly along the eastern boundaries of the land on plan A/3091 aforesaid to its north-eastern corner; thence north-westerly along the northern boundary of the said land for a distance of 40 chains; thence along a line running due north to the high-water mark of the sea; thence northerly along high-water mark of the sea to the northernmost corner of the land shown on plan A/1784 deposited as aforesaid; thence along a line bearing 315° for a distance of 80 chains; thence south-westerly along a line to a point bearing 135° and 80 chains distant from the south-western corner of the land shown on plan A/3091 deposited as aforesaid; thence south-easterly along that line to the point of commencement. As the same is more particularly delineated on the plan marked Army P.P. 47, 205/3/1, deposited at Army Headquarters, Wellington, and thereon bordered red.
