Transmitting and Receiving Officers for the Service of Notices by Telegraph.

IN pursuance of the powers conferred upon me by the Post and Telegraph Act, 1928 (hereinafter termed “the said Act”), and by the regulations made on the 12th May, 1914, and published in the New Zealand Gazette of the 21st May, 1914, the following officers, at the addresses set against their names, are hereby appointed transmitting and receiving officers for the purpose of dealing with all notices by telegraph sent under the said Act or regulations, and of signing such certificates in relation to the service of any such notices as are required or authorized to be signed or given under the said Act or the regulations aforesaid:—

Oil Fuel Retail Hours (Auckland) Order 1941.


PURSUANT to the Oil Fuel Retail Hours Emergency Regulations (No. 2) 1940, and pursuant to a requisition in writing received in that behalf, I, Patrick Charles Webb, Minister of Labour, do hereby direct as follows:—

  1. This Order may be cited as the Oil Fuel Retail Hours (Auckland) Order 1941.

  2. This Order shall come into force on the 15th day of September, 1941.

  3. This Order shall apply to all establishments engaged in the sale by retail of oil fuel and situate within the area defined as “Area 3” in the Motor-spirits Prices (Auckland Provincial) Regulations 1938, serial number 1938/48.

  4. On and after the coming into force of this Order all such establishments, except as hereinafter provided, shall be closed for the sale of oil fuel during the whole of every Sunday, and shall on every Friday be opened for the sale of oil fuel from 7.30 a.m. till 9 p.m. and closed at all other times on every Friday, and on every other day of the week be opened for the sale of oil fuel from 7.30 a.m. till 6 p.m. and closed at all other times on the said respective days: Provided that such establishments shall be closed for the sale of oil fuel during the whole of every Christmas Day, Good Friday, and Anzac Day, and on the day immediately preceding Christmas Day, Good Friday, and Anzac Day respectively, shall be opened for the sale of oil fuel from 7.30 a.m. till 9 p.m. and closed at all other times on the said respective days.

  5. This Order shall not apply to the establishment operated by Cadman’s Parking Station, Ltd., at Greys Avenue, Auckland, or to the establishment operated by Shorter’s Rental Cars, Ltd., at Shortland Street, Auckland, or to the establishment operated by the North Shore Transport Co., Ltd., at Takapuna, Auckland.

  6. Nothing in this Order shall apply to the Air Transport and Touring Automobiles of New Zealand, Ltd., Auckland, in respect of the supply of oil fuel to the taxi-cabs operated by such company, or to Motor Supplies Co-operative Society, Ltd., Auckland, in respect of the supply of oil fuel to the taxi-cabs operated by the Checker Taxi-cabs Society of New Zealand, Ltd.

  7. Nothing in this Order shall apply to the Lane Motor Boat Co., Ltd., Auckland, or to C. J. Collings, Auckland, in respect of the supply of oil fuel to launches.

  8. Nothing in this Order shall apply to the Waitemata Bus and Transport Co., Ltd., or to Suburban Buses, Ltd., in respect of the supply of oil fuel to the passenger buses operated by such two companies.

  9. Nothing in this Order shall apply to Johnston’s Blue Motors, Ltd., in respect of the supply of oil fuel to that company’s private hire cars and service cars.

  10. Nothing in this Order shall apply to Railway Service Station (A.K.), Ltd., in respect of the supply of oil fuel to the service cars of Auckland-Dargaville Services, Ltd., between 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. on Sundays and on Christmas Day, Good Friday, and Anzac Day.

  11. Nothing in this Order shall apply to Drive Yourself, Ltd., or to F. J. Wilson in respect of the supply of oil fuel to the rental cars owned by such two establishments.

  12. Commencing upon the coming into force of this Order one of the establishments hereinafter named in each of the three localities hereinafter specified shall, in rotation in the order in which the names in each locality appear successively, be opened for the sale of oil fuel on every Sunday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. For the purposes of this clause Good Friday, Anzac Day, and Christmas Day shall be deemed to be Sundays.

Notwithstanding anything hereinbefore contained I may, on receipt of a request signed by a majority of the members of the Auckland Petrol Section Committee of the New Zealand Retail Motor Trade Association (Inc.), direct, in respect of any particular week, that in the evening of one day in that week the establishments to which this Order applies may remain open until such later hour on that day as may be specified by me in such direction, provided that notice of such direction shall be published not later than five days prior to such day in a daily newspaper circulating in the area covered by this Order.

  2. The Oil Fuel Retail Hours (Auckland) Order 1940 is hereby revoked as from the date of the coming into force of this Order.

Poukawa Drainage Area.—Making and levying General Rates.


I, JAMES GILLISPIE BARCLAY, acting for the Minister of Lands, in exercise of the powers conferred upon him by the Swamp Drainage Act, 1915, and its amendments, do hereby make and levy on the unimproved value of all lands within the Poukawa Drainage Area, constituted under the said Act, the general rates described in the Schedule hereto, such rates being for the purpose of covering for the period from the 1st day of April, 1941, to the 31st day of March,
