Appointments, Promotions, Transfers, Resignations, and Retirements of Officers of the N.Z. Military Forces.

HIS Excellency the Governor-General has been pleased to approve of the following appointments, promotions, transfers, resignations, and retirements of officers of the New Zealand Military Forces :—

STAFF.

Major J. N. Henry, N.Z. Staff Corps, relinquishes the appointment of Assistant Quartermaster-General, Central Military District, Wellington, and is appointed Camp Commandant, Foxton. Dated 28th December, 1940.

Major J. M. Reidy, N.Z. Temporary Staff, relinquishes the appointment of Commandant, Central Military District School of Instruction, Tauherenikau, and is appointed Camp Commandant, Dannevirke. Dated 28th December, 1940.

Major E. A. Porritt, M.C., N.Z. Temporary Staff, relinquishes command of No. 3 Training Battalion, Mobilization Camp, Trentham, is appointed Camp Commandant, Palmerston North, and retains the temporary rank of Major while so employed. Dated 5th January, 1941.

Captain W. G. Bassett, N.Z. Temporary Staff, ceases to be attached to the Camp Instructional Staff, Mobilization Camp, Trentham, and is appointed Commandant, Central Military District School of Instruction, Foxton. Dated 6th January, 1941.

Captain R. A. Prescott, N.Z. Temporary Staff, relinquishes the appointment of Company Commander, No. 2 Training Battalion, Mobilization Camp, Trentham, and is appointed Adjutant, Central Military District School of Instruction, Foxton. Dated 25th January, 1941.

Captain W. Huse, N.Z. Temporary Staff, relinquishes the appointment of Instructor, Training Cadre, Mobilization Camp, Trentham, and is appointed Company Commander, No. 2 Training Battalion, Mobilization Camp, Trentham. Dated 22nd January, 1941.

Lieutenant A. J. Kerse, N.Z. Temporary Staff, relinquishes the appointment of Company Commander, No. 1 Training Battalion, Mobilization Camp, Trentham, and is appointed Chief Instructor (Infantry), Mobilization Camp, Trentham. Dated 29th January, 1941.

Major G. W. Massingham, M.C., N.Z. Temporary Staff, relinquishes the appointment of Assistant Area Officer, No. 5 Area, Wellington, and is appointed Area Staff Officer, No. 5 Area, Wellington. Dated 1st January, 1941. (This officer performed the duties of Area Staff Officer, No. 5 Area, Wellington, from 16th September, 1940, to 31st December, 1940.)

Captain A. Hirschhorn, N.Z. Temporary Staff, relinquishes the appointment of Deputy Assistant Adjutant-General, Central Military District, and is appointed Assistant Adjutant-General, Central Military District, vice Major C. N. Devery, D.C.M., N.Z. Temporary Staff. Dated 20th December, 1940.

Captain A. Hirschhorn, N.Z. Temporary Staff, Assistant Adjutant-General, Central Military District, is granted the temporary rank of Major while so employed. Dated 1st February, 1941.

Captain H. L. de F. Garland, N.Z. Staff Corps, relinquishes the appointment of Assistant Area Officer, No. 4 Area, Hamilton, and is appointed Assistant Area Officer, No. 1 Area, Auckland. Dated 28th December, 1940.

Captain W. E. Anderson, N.Z. Temporary Staff, relinquishes the appointment of Assistant Adjutant, Mobilization Camp, Burnham, and is attached to the Branch of the Adjutant-General, Army Headquarters, Wellington. Dated 10th February, 1941.

Lieutenant L. E. Earle, N.Z. Temporary Staff, relinquishes the appointment of Company Commander, 2nd Battalion, National Military Reserve, and is appointed Adjutant, 2nd Field Company, Corps of N.Z. Engineers. Dated 14th September, 1940.

Lieutenant L. E. Earle, N.Z. Temporary Staff, relinquishes the appointment of Adjutant, 2nd Field Company, Corps of N.Z. Engineers, and is appointed Assistant Staff Officer (Fortifications and Works), Army Headquarters, Wellington, vice Lieutenant K. Christie, B.E. (Civil Elect.), N.Z. Temporary Staff, seconded to the 2nd N.Z. Expeditionary Force. Dated 25th November, 1940.

N.Z. STAFF CORPS.

Captain G. F. Yerex, Adjutant, Waiouru Military Camp, is granted the temporary rank of Major while so employed. Dated 4th November, 1940.

N.Z. TEMPORARY STAFF.

Major (temp. Lieutenant-Colonel) J. R. V. Sherston, D.S.O., M.C., on ceasing to be employed in the N.Z. Temporary Staff, relinquishes the appointment of General Staff Officer, 1st Grade (Training and Staff Duties), Army Headquarters, Wellington, and the temporary rank of Lieutenant-Colonel. Dated 9th February, 1941.

Captain W. G. Bassett is granted the temporary rank of Major. Dated 1st January, 1941.

Captain A. N. Oakey, M.C., Retired List, to be Captain, and is appointed Assistant Area Officer, No. 7 Area, Napier. Dated 9th December, 1940.

Captain A. N. Oakey, M.C., relinquishes the appointment of Assistant Area Officer, No. 7 Area, and is appointed Area Officer, No. 7 Area, Napier. Dated 7th January, 1941.

Captain H. Keenan, 1st Battalion, The Canterbury Regiment, to be Captain, and is appointed Adjutant, 2nd Battalion, The Canterbury Regiment, Christchurch. Dated 1st January, 1941.

Captain W. P. Aldridge, Retired List, to be Captain, and is appointed Assistant Area Officer, No. 4 Area, Hamilton. Dated 24th January, 1941.

Lieutenant J. B. C. Gegre-Watson is granted the temporary rank of Captain while carrying out the duty of Machine Gun Instructor, Mobilization Camp, Trentham. Dated 8th February, 1941.

The undermentioned Lieutenants to be Captains. Dated 8th February, 1941 :—

The notice published in the New Zealand Gazette No. 10, dated 6th February, 1941, relative to the resignation of Lieutenant Sir J. G. D. Ward, is hereby cancelled.

Lieutenant C. G. Baker relinquishes the appointment of Company Commander, 3rd Battalion, National Military Reserve, and is appointed Assistant Area Officer, No. 10 Area, Christchurch. Dated 1st January, 1941.

George Gibson Black (late Lieutenant, The Otago Regiment), to be Lieutenant, and is appointed Adjutant, 2nd Battalion, the New Zealand Scottish Regiment, Christchurch. Dated 1st January, 1941.

2nd Lieutenant (temp.) B. B. Bern, The Wellington West Coast Regiment, to be Lieutenant, and is appointed Assistant Instructor, Weapon Training, Army School of Instruction, Trentham. Dated 16th January, 1941.

W.O. I Daniel Henry Windeler is granted the honorary rank of Lieutenant while employed as Superintendent of the Power-station and related Maintenance Services, Waiouru Military Camp. Dated 1st February, 1941.

W.O. I Douglas Ronald Orange to be 2nd Lieutenant, and is appointed Assistant Supply Officer, Waiouru Military Camp. Dated 8th February, 1941.

COMMANDS.

Lieutenant-Colonel W. R. Foley, M.C., V.D., commanding the 2nd N.Z. Mounted Rifles Brigade, to be Colonel. Dated 1st January, 1941.

Lieutenant-Colonel W. W. Jefford, The Hawke’s Bay Regiment, relinquishes command of the 1st Battalion, is transferred to the 7th N.Z. Infantry Brigade, and appointed to command the Brigade. Dated 1st January, 1941.

QUEEN ALEXANDRA’S (WELLINGTON WEST COAST) MOUNTED RIFLES.

William Mathew Findlay to be 2nd Lieutenant (temp.). Dated 1st October, 1940.

THE WAIKATO MOUNTED RIFLES.

Major E. E. Kennedy, M.C., from No. 1 (Northland) Squadron Mounted Rifles, to be Major, with pay and allowances of a Captain. Dated 22nd January, 1941.

THE OTAGO MOUNTED RIFLES.

2nd Lieutenant (temp.) A. T. Raines resigns his commission. Dated 6th February, 1941.

THE MANAWATU MOUNTED RIFLES.

Captain (temp. Major) G. S. Peren relinquishes the temporary rank of Major and is granted the temporary rank of Lieutenant-Colonel. Dated 6th February, 1941.
