Assumption of the Office of Governor-General and Commander-in-Chief of New Zealand by Marshal of the Royal Air Force Sir Cyril Louis Norton Newall.

A PROCLAMATION.

WHEREAS His Majesty King George the Sixth was graciously pleased, by a Commission passed under the Royal Sign-manual and Signet, bearing date at Saint James’s the tenth day of February, one thousand nine hundred and forty-one, to constitute and appoint me, Cyril Louis Norton Newall, to be Governor-General and Commander-in-Chief in and over His Majesty’s Dominion of New Zealand and its Dependencies :

Now, I, the Governor-General and Commander-in-Chief aforesaid, do hereby proclaim and declare that I have this day taken the prescribed oaths before the Right Honourable Sir Michael Myers, Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of New Zealand, and that I have assumed the said office of Governor-General and Commander-in-Chief in and over the Dominion of New Zealand and its Dependencies under and by virtue of His Majesty’s said Commission.

Given under the hand of His Excellency Sir Cyril Louis Norton Newall, Marshal of the Royal Air Force, Knight Grand Cross of the Most Honourable Order of the Bath, Member of the Order of Merit, Knight Grand Cross of the Most Distinguished Order of Saint Michael and Saint George, Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire, on whom has been conferred the Albert Medal of the First Class, Governor-General and Commander-in-Chief in and over His Majesty’s Dominion of New Zealand and its Dependencies ; and issued under the Seal of that Dominion, this twenty-second day of February, 1941.
