HIS Excellency the Administrator of the Government has been pleased to approve of the following appointments, promotions, transfers, and resignations of officers of the New Zealand Military Forces :—
STAFF.
Major-General Sir Andrew H. Russell, K.C.B., K.C.M.G., N.Z. Temporary Staff, relinquishes the acting appointments of Chief of the General Staff and First Military Member of the Army Board. Dated 28th December, 1940.
Lieutenant A. M. Jordon, N.Z. Staff Corps, relinquishes the appointment of General Staff Officer, 3rd Grade (Training, Territorial Force), Army Headquarters, Wellington, on being seconded for service overseas with the 2nd N.Z. Expeditionary Force. Dated 19th December, 1940.
Lieutenant (Acting Captain) D. N. McLeod, N.Z. Temporary Staff, relinquishes the appointment of Signals Instructor, Training Cadre, Mobilization Camp, Trentham, and is appointed Adjutant, Mobilization Camp, Trentham. Dated 7th October, 1940.
REGIMENT OF ROYAL N.Z. ARTILLERY.
Lieutenant-Colonel R. S. Park is granted the temporary rank of Colonel. Dated 1st November, 1940.
N.Z. PERMANENT STAFF.
W.O. I (Staff Sergeant-Major) Charles Edward Rogers to be Lieutenant and Quartermaster (temp.), and is appointed Assistant Area Officer, No. 7 Area, Masterton. Dated 11th January, 1941.
W.O. I (Staff Sergeant-Major) William Edmonds to be Lieutenant and Quartermaster (temp.), and is appointed Assistant Area Officer, Area 10, Ashburton. Dated 11th January, 1941.
N.Z. TEMPORARY STAFF.
Captain R. B. Schulze relinquishes the appointment of Adjutant, Mobilization Camp Trentham, is appointed General Staff Officer, 2nd Grade, Central Military District, Wellington, and is granted the rank of Major whilst so employed. Dated 7th October, 1940.
Major A. H. Wright, V.D., relinquishes the appointments of Area Staff Officer, No. 7 Area, and Adjutant, 1st Battalion, The Hawke’s Bay Regiment, Napier. Dated 31st December, 1940.
Captain K. B. McKenzie-Muirson, M.C., relinquishes the appointment of Commandant, Central Military District School of Instruction, and is appointed Officer Commanding, No. 3 Training Battalion, Mobilization Camp, Trentham. Dated 9th January, 1941.
Captain K. B. McKenzie-Muirson, M.C., to be Major (temp.). Dated 9th January, 1941.
Captain J. B. Cranston, The North Auckland Regiment, to be Captain, and is posted to No. 1 Training Battalion, Mobilization Camp, Ngaruawahia. Dated 5th July, 1940.
Captain D. E. Trevarthen, 1st Battalion, The Waikato Regiment, to be Captain, and is appointed General Staff Officer, 3rd Grade, Northern Field Force. Dated 5th January, 1941.
Captain J. S. H. Kinnear, B.D.S., N.Z. Dental Corps, relinquishes the appointment of Dental Officer, Mobilization Camp, Papakura, and is attached to the Royal N.Z. Air Force Station, Whenuapai. Dated 7th January, 1941.
Major G. E. Pollock, E.D., The Wellington Regiment (City of Wellington’s Own), to be Captain, and is attached to the Adjutant-General’s Branch, Army Headquarters, Wellington. Dated 7th January, 1941.

Lieutenant H. G. Bartleet, 1st Battalion, National Military Reserve, to be Lieutenant, and is appointed Adjutant, 3rd Battalion, The Auckland Regiment (Countess of Ranfurly’s Own). Dated 10th November, 1940.
Sidney Paxton Stewart to be Lieutenant, and is appointed Assistant to the Staff Officer, Ordnance Services, Army Headquarters, Wellington. Dated 26th November, 1940.
Arthur John Fox-Smith, M.I.M.E. (late Indian Army), to be Lieutenant, and is appointed Adjutant, 2nd Field Company, Corps of N.Z. Engineers. Dated 2nd December, 1940.
2nd Lieutenant J. Graham to be Lieutenant. Dated 2nd December, 1940.
2nd Lieutenant F. W. Mothes, Reserve of Officers, to be Lieutenant, and is attached to the Adjutant-General’s Branch, Army Headquarters, Wellington. Dated 13th December, 1940.
Lieutenant Sir J. G. D. Ward resigns his commission. Dated 31st December, 1940.
John Henry Cowdrey to be Captain, and is appointed Deputy Director of Hygiene, Army Headquarters, Wellington. Dated 25th November, 1940.
Lieutenant D. T. Allan, B.D.S., N.Z. Dental Corps, relinquishes the appointment of Dental Officer, Mobilization Camp, Trentham, and is attached to the Royal N.Z. Air Force Station, Rongotai. Dated 3rd January, 1941.
Lieutenant P. F. Foote, B.D.S., N.Z. Dental Corps (attached to the Otago University Medical Company, N.Z.M.C.), to be Lieutenant, and is appointed Dental Officer, Mobilization Camp, Burnham. Dated 4th January, 1941.
Lieutenant (temp.) F. G. Lintott, 8th Medium Regiment, N.Z. Artillery, to be Lieutenant, and is attached to the General Staff Branch, Army Headquarters, Wellington. Dated 6th January, 1941.
Lieutenant H. G. Lynch, B.D.S., N.Z. Dental Corps, ceases to be attached to the Royal N.Z. Air Force Station, Whenuapai, and is appointed Dental Officer, Mobilization Camp, Papakura. Dated 8th January, 1941.
Gordon Edmund Merrick, to be Lieutenant, N.Z. Dental Corps, and is appointed Dental Officer, Mobilization Camp, Trentham. Dated 10th January, 1941.

2nd Lieutenant K. G. Chamberlain, Reserve of Officers, The Hawke’s Bay Regiment, to be 2nd Lieutenant, and is appointed Assistant Area Officer, Palmerston North, Area 6. Dated 26th November, 1940.
2nd Lieutenant (temp.) H. N. F. Burry, 2nd Battalion, The Canterbury Regiment, to be 2nd Lieutenant, and is attached to “ Q ” Branch, Southern Military District, Christchurch. Dated 1st January, 1941.
2nd Lieutenant (temp.) D. R. Hopkins, The Auckland Regiment (Countess of Ranfurly’s Own), to be 2nd Lieutenant, and is appointed Adjutant, 2nd Battalion, The Auckland Regiment (Countess of Ranfurly’s Own). Dated 8th January, 1941.
COMMANDS.
Lieutenant-Colonel W. R. Foley, M.C., V.D., relinquishes the command of Queen Alexandra’s (Wellington West Coast) Mounted Rifles, and is appointed to command the 2nd N.Z. Mounted Rifles Brigade. Dated 20th November, 1940.
Lieutenant-Colonel J. B. Davis, V.D., is appointed to command Queen Alexandra’s (Wellington West Coast) Mounted Rifles. Dated 20th November, 1940.
Major O. Henry, E.D., The Auckland (East Coast) Mounted Rifles is appointed to command the Regiment, vice Lieutenant-Colonel F. G. Dill, E.D., seconded to the 2nd N.Z. Expeditionary Force, and is granted the temporary rank of Lieutenant-Colonel. Dated 1st November, 1940.
THE CANTERBURY YEOMANRY CAVALRY.
Captain J. E. Stevens, from the Reserve of Officers, Queen Alexandra’s (Wellington West Coast) Mounted Rifles, to be Captain, with seniority from 1st September, 1937. Dated 19th December, 1940.
QUEEN ALEXANDRA’S (WELLINGTON WEST COAST) MOUNTED RIFLES.
