Climatological Table

Sept. 19.] THE NEW ZEALAND GAZETTE. 2369

A rapid improvement followed and the northern belt of high pressure extended to beyond Chatham Islands on the 25th, but a deep depression in the South Tasman Sea caused strong north-west winds and heavy rain in and west of the Southern Alps. One disturbance associated with the main depression became stationary over the North Island where it merged with others to produce a complex but shallow depression covering a wide area, while to the east pressure once more remained high. As a result it was dull over the North Island with considerable light rain and drizzle, whereas in the far south the weather remained fine. Mist and fog became increasingly prevalent towards the end of the month.
