Appointments, Promotions, Transfers, and Retirements of Officers of the New Zealand Military Forces.

HIS Excellency the Governor-General has been pleased to approve of the following appointments, promotions, transfers, and retirements of officers of the New Zealand Military Forces :—

STAFF.

Lieutenant-Colonel H. E. Avery, C.M.G., D.S.O., Reserve of Officers, N.Z. Staff Corps, is transferred to the Active List and is attached to the Quartermaster-General’s Branch, Army Headquarters, Wellington. Dated 12th August, 1940.

Captain J. M. Reidy, N.Z. Staff Corps, is appointed Commandant, Central Military District School of Instruction, Wellington. Dated 29th June, 1940.

Lieutenant W. G. Bassett, N.Z. Temporary Staff, relinquishes the appointment of Adjutant, Central District School of Instruction (Tauherenikau Wing), and is appointed Commandant, Central Military District School of Instruction (Tauherenikau Wing). Dated 29th June, 1940.

2nd Lieutenant S. G. Chaplin, 2nd N.Z. Expeditionary Force, is appointed Adjutant, Central Military District School of Instruction (Tauherenikau Wing). Dated 29th June, 1940.

2nd Lieutenant B. R. Henderson, 2nd N.Z. Expeditionary Force, relinquishes the appointment of Infantry Instructor, Training Cadre, Mobilization Camp, Trentham, and is appointed Adjutant, Central Military District School of Instruction, Wellington. Dated 1st July, 1940.

Lieutenant R. S. Beveridge, N.Z. Temporary Staff, relinquishes the appointment of Quartermaster, No. 2 Training Battalion, Mobilization Camp, Trentham, and is appointed Quartermaster, Central Military District School of Instruction, Wellington. Dated 1st July, 1940.

Lieutenant R. de la Cour, N.Z. Staff Corps, relinquishes the appointment of Adjutant, 10th Heavy Regiment, N.Z. Artillery, on being seconded for duty with the 2nd N.Z. Expeditionary Force. Dated 24th June, 1940.

Lieutenant J. B. C. Geere-Watson, 2nd N.Z. Expeditionary Force, ceases to be attached to Headquarters, Central Military District, and is posted to Central Military District School of Instruction, Wellington. Dated 7th July, 1940.

Captain L. R. Neilson, N.Z. Staff Corps, relinquishes the appointment of Adjutant, The Manawatu Mounted Rifles. Dated 1st June, 1940.

Captain L. R. Neilson, N.Z. Staff Corps, relinquishes the appointment of Assistant Area Officer, No. 6 Area, Palmerston North, and is appointed Assistant Quartermaster, Mobilization Camp, Trentham. Dated 18th July, 1940.

Lieutenant G. Holderness, N.Z. Temporary Staff, relinquishes the appointment of Adjutant, Central District Signal Company, and retains the appointment of assistant Area Officer, No. 5 Area, Wellington. Dated 1st July, 1940.

N.Z. STAFF CORPS.

Captain J. M. Reidy is granted the temporary rank of Major. Dated 1st August, 1940.

REGIMENT OF ROYAL N.Z. ARTILLERY.

Captain W. Pollard is granted the temporary rank of Major. Dated 1st May, 1940.

N.Z. TEMPORARY STAFF.

Captain H. G. Simpson ceases to be attached to the Royal N.Z. Air Force Station, Ohakea, and is attached to the Royal N.Z. Air Force Station, Taieri. Dated 1st August, 1940.

The undermentioned Lieutenants are granted the temporary rank of Captain. Dated 1st July, 1940 :—

Lieutenant R. J. McDermott, Retired List, to be Lieutenant, and is appointed Adjutant, 2nd Battalion, National Military Reserve, Wellington. Dated 30th June, 1940.

Lieutenant D. R. Mansfield, Reserve of Officers, Supplementary List, to be Lieutenant, and is appointed Company Commander, 2nd Battalion, National Military Reserve, Wellington. Dated 30th June, 1940,

Captain D. W. Curham, M.C., Retired List, to be Lieutenant, and is appointed Company Commander, 11th Company, National Military Reserve, Wanganui. Dated 29th June, 1940.

Captain E. R. Black, M.C., Reserve of Officers, Supplementary List, to be Captain, and is appointed Company Commander, 8th Company, National Military Reserve Gisborne. Dated 30th June, 1940.

Captain W. H. Jones, Reserve of Officers, Supplementary List, to be Captain, and is appointed Company Commander, 9th Company, National Military Reserve, Napier. Dated 30th June, 1940.

2nd Lieutenant W. Hayward, Retired List, to be Lieutenant, and is appointed Company Commander, 10th Company, National Military Reserve, New Plymouth. Dated 29th June, 1940.

Oswald Mills (late Lieutenant, N.Z.E.F.) to be Lieutenant, and is appointed Company Commander, 2nd Battalion, National Military Reserve, Wellington. Dated 30th June, 1940.

Desmond Watson (late Australian Imperial Forces) to be Lieutenant, and is appointed Company Commander, 2nd Battalion, National Military Reserve, Wellington. Dated 30th June, 1940.

Joseph George Davidson Ward to be Lieutenant, and is appointed Assistant Transport Shipping Officer, Christchurch. Dated 5th August, 1940.

Lieutenant H. V. B. Speight, Reserve of Officers, Supplementary List, to be Lieutenant, and is appointed Adjutant, Central District Signal Company, Wellington. Dated 1st July, 1940.

Lieutenant L. E. Earle, Reserve of Officers, N.Z. Staff Corps, to be Lieutenant, and is appointed Company Commander, 2nd Battalion, National Military Reserve Wellington. Dated 30th June, 1940.

Robert John Gamble (late N.Z. Army Ordnance Corps) to be Lieutenant, and is appointed Assistant Ordnance Officer, Trentham. Dated 1st August, 1940.

THE AUCKLAND REGIMENT (COUNTESS OF RANFURLY’S OWN).

Richard Broadley Sibson, to be 2nd Lieutenant (temp.), and is posted to the 1st Cadet Battalion. Dated 31st July, 1940.

THE NORTH AUCKLAND REGIMENT.

Charles Douglas Waddell (late Captain, Imperial Army) to Captain (temp.), and is posted to the 1st Battalion. Dated 30th July, 1940.

THE WAIKATO REGIMENT.

Major S. E. Senior, M.C., E.D., ceases to be posted to the 1st Cadet Battalion, and is posted to the 1st Battalion. Dated 20th July, 1940.

THE WELLINGTON REGIMENT (CITY OF WELLINGTON’S OWN).

The undermentioned Captains, 1st Battalion, are granted the temporary rank of Major :—

A. E. Gorton, M.M. Dated 19th July, 1940.
B. N. Vicker man. Dated 20th July, 1940.

The undermentioned Lieutenants, 1st Battalion, are granted temporary rank of Captain :—

J. M. Andrew. Dated 18th July, 1940.
A. H. Brooke-Taylor. Dated 19th July, 1940.

2nd Lieutenant J. D. Hicks, 1st Battalion, is granted the temporary rank of Lieutenant. Dated 18th July, 1940.

Harold Vernon Clark, to be 2nd Lieutenant (temp.), and is posted to the 2nd Cadet Battalion. Dated 4th April, 1940.

THE OTAGO REGIMENT.

Lieutenant E. D. Price, 2nd Cadet Battalion, is attached to the 1st Battalion temporarily, with seniority from 2nd July, 1940. Dated 8th August, 1940.

N.Z. ARMY SERVICE CORPS.

Lieutenant A. D. McLaren from the Reserve of Officers, to be Lieutenant (temp.), with seniority from 1st August, 1940, and is posted to the 3rd Composite Company. Dated 8th August, 1940.

N.Z. MEDICAL CORPS.

Captain R. J. Maunsell, M.B., Ch.B., is transferred to the Reserve of Officers, Central Military District. Dated 5th August, 1940.

Lieutenant P. F. Howden, M.B., Ch.B., is posted to the 1st Field Ambulance. Dated 30th July, 1940.
