HIS Excellency the Governor-General has been pleased to approve of the following appointments, promotions, transfers, resignations, and retirements of officers of the New Zealand Military Forces:—

STAFF.

2nd Lieutenant A. Hirschhorn, N.Z. Temporary Staff, is appointed Deputy Assistant Adjutant-General, Central Military District, Wellington. Dated 1st August, 1940.

N.Z. TEMPORARY STAFF.

Colonel the Hon. Mr. Justice E. H. Northcroft, D.S.O., V.D., Retired List, to be Lieutenant-Colonel, and is appointed District Artillery Officer, Southern Military District, Christchurch. Dated 26th June, 1940.
Lieutenant-Colonel G. Lyon, M.C., E.D., N.Z. Artillery, to be Major, and is appointed Fire Commander, Lyttelton. Dated 1st July, 1940.
Lieutenant A. F. E. Tylee, B.Sc., Reserve of Officers, Corps of N.Z. Engineers, to be Lieutenant, and is appointed Adjutant, 3rd Field Company, Corps of N.Z. Engineers, Christchurch. Dated 28th June, 1940.
Lieutenant (temp. Captain) J. C. McIntosh, M.Sc., N.Z. Corps of Signals, to be Lieutenant, and is appointed Staff Officer, Administration and Training (Signals), Army Headquarters, Wellington. Dated 5th August, 1940.
2nd Lieutenant (on probation) G. J. W. Tyer, M.Sc., N.Z. Corps of Signals, to be Lieutenant, and is appointed Staff Officer, Fixed Signal Communications and Equipment (Signals), Army Headquarters, Wellington. Dated 5th August, 1940.

COMMANDS.

Lieutenant-Colonel B. W. H. Smart, E.D., Queen Alexandra’s (Wellington West Coast) Mounted Rifles, relinquishes command of the Regiment and is transferred to the Reserve of Officers, Class I (b), Area 8. Dated 29th July, 1940.
Lieutenant-Colonel W. R. Foley, M.C., V.D., Queen Alexandra’s (Wellington West Coast) Mounted Rifles, is appointed to command the Regiment temporarily. Dated 29th July, 1940.

QUEEN ALEXANDRA’S (WELLINGTON WEST COAST) MOUNTED RIFLES.

Colonel W. R. Foley, M.C., V.D., from the Reserve of Officers, Class I (a), to be Lieutenant-Colonel, with seniority from 7th October, 1932. Dated 29th July, 1940.

THE MANAWATU MOUNTED RIFLES.

Lieutenant (temp. Captain) (acting Major) G. S. Peren to be Captain and is granted the temporary rank of Major. Dated 1st August, 1940.

THE NORTH AUCKLAND MOUNTED RIFLES.

Major A. C. M. Finlayson, M.C., from the Reserve of Officers, Supplementary List, to be Major (temp.), with seniority from 12th July, 1940. Dated 30th July, 1940.
Alexander McLauchlan, M.C. (late Captain, Imperial Army), to be Captain (temp.). Dated 24th July, 1940.

N.Z. ARTILLERY.

Captain V. S. Birt, M.C., 10th Heavy Regiment, is appointed Adjutant of the Regiment. Dated 24th June, 1940.
Captain J. S. Coles, from the Reserve of Officers, to be Captain (temp.), with seniority from 7th November, 1935, and is posted to the 4th Battery, 2nd Field Regiment. Dated 31st July, 1940.
Lieutenant (temp.) D. R. B. Stavert, 18th Heavy Battery, resigns his commission. Dated 25th July, 1940.
Lieutenant E. J. Scotland, 10th Heavy Regiment, is granted the temporary rank of Captain. Dated 1st August, 1940.
Lieutenant A. B. Chappell, 10th Heavy Regiment, is granted the temporary rank of Captain. Dated 1st August, 1940.

The undermentioned to be 2nd Lieutenants (temp.) and are posted to the 7th Battery, 8th Medium Regiment. Dated 22nd June, 1940:—

CORPS OF N.Z. ENGINEERS.

THE AUCKLAND REGIMENT (COUNTESS OF RANFURLY’S OWN).

Lieutenant J. S. Matthews, 1st Battalion, is granted the temporary rank of Captain. Dated 17th June, 1940.

Lieutenant W. S. Dingle, from the Reserve of Officers, Supplementary List, to be Lieutenant (temp.), with seniority from 10th July, 1940, and is posted to the 1st Battalion. Dated 31st July, 1940.

Henry Charles Veitch to be 2nd Lieutenant (temp.) and is posted to the 1st Cadet Battalion. Dated 29th July, 1940.

THE TARANAKI REGIMENT.

Lieutenant N. F. Little, M.C., 1st Battalion, is granted the temporary rank of Captain. Dated 11th June, 1940.
Lieutenant C. C. Day, 2nd Cadet Battalion, is transferred to the Wellington West Coast Regiment. Dated 30th July, 1940.

THE CANTERBURY REGIMENT.

The undermentioned to be 2nd Lieutenants (temp.) and are posted to the 1st Battalion:—

The notice published in the New Zealand Gazette No. 77, dated 1st August, 1940, relative to Captain G. Hill, is hereby cancelled and the following substituted:—

“Captain G. Hill, 1st Cadet Battalion, is attached to the 1st Battalion temporarily, with seniority from 2nd January, 1940. Dated 12th July, 1940.”
