CROWN LANDS NOTICES.
Education Reserve in Wellington Land District for Lease by Public Auction.
District Lands and Survey Office,
Wellington, 8th July, 1940.
NOTICE is hereby given that the undermentioned education reserve will be offered for lease by public auction at the District Lands and Survey Office, State Fire Building, Wellington, at 2.30 o’clock p.m. on Tuesday, 13th August, 1940, under the provisions of the Education Reserves Act, 1928, and the Public Bodies’ Leases Act, 1908.
SCHEDULE.
WELLINGTON LAND DISTRICT—EDUCATION RESERVE.
City of Wanganui.
Lots 3 and 4, Plan 257/2, part Sections 281, 282, and 535, Town of Wanganui: Area, 1 rood 31·1 perches. Upset annual rent, £11 10s.
Weighted with £560 for improvements, comprising dwelling, outbuildings, motor-shed, and iron fencing. This sum is payable in cash, or, after payment of a deposit of £60, the balance, £500, may be secured on mortgage to the State Advances Corporation repayable over a period of ten years—interest 4½ per cent. reducible to 4¼ per cent. for prompt payment; half-yearly instalment £31 10s. 2d. (gross). Costs of mortgage to be paid by successful bidder. The mortgage will include a covenant that within six months the lessee will repair the exterior woodwork and spouting, paint the dwelling, and make the roof watertight, to the satisfaction of the mortgagee.
This property is known as 14 Purnell Street, and is situated in Wanganui, 50 chains from Post-office by tar-sealed road and good footpath.

Land in Marlborough Land District for Selection on Optional Tenures.
District Lands and Survey Office,
Blenheim, 9th July, 1940.
NOTICE is hereby given that the undermentioned property is open for selection on optional tenures under the Land Act, 1924; and applications will be received at the District Lands and Survey Office, Blenheim, up to 4 o’clock p.m. on Tuesday, 6th August, 1940.
Applicants should appear personally for examination at the District Lands and Survey Office, Blenheim, on Thursday, 8th August, 1940, at 10.30 o’clock a.m., but if any applicant is unable to attend he may be examined by any other Land Board or by any Commissioner of Crown Lands.
The ballot will be held immediately upon conclusion of the examination of applicants, and the successful applicant is required to pay immediately at conclusion of ballot a deposit comprising the first half-year’s rent, broken-period rent, lease and mortgage fees, and deposit in reduction of weighting for improvements.
SCHEDULE.
MARLBOROUGH LAND DISTRICT.—THIRD-CLASS LAND.
Marlborough County.—Wakamarina Survey District.
Lot B of Section 1, Block VIII: Area, 4 acres 3 roods 32 perches. Capital value, £50. Deposit on deferred payments, £5. Deferred payments: Half-yearly instalment, £1 9s. 3d. Renewable lease: Half-yearly rent, £1 5s.
Weighted with £350 for improvements, consisting of dwelling, whare, wool-shed, yards and dip, and water-supply. This sum is payable in cash, or, after payment of a deposit of £35 the balance remaining on mortgage in favour of the State Advances Corporation for a term of fifteen years, repayable by thirty half-yearly instalments of £14 13s. 6d., comprising principal and interest.
This property is situated six miles from Havelock and about thirty-four miles from Blenheim, access being by launch from Havelock. The section consists of undulating spurs and the soil is of loam resting on rock formation; well watered by a stream. The altitude ranges from sea-level to about 100 ft. above sea-level. This section is suitable only for a seaside residence.

Land in Nelson Land District for Selection on Renewable Lease.
District Lands and Survey Office,
Nelson, 8th July, 1940.
NOTICE is hereby given that the undermentioned section is open for selection on renewable lease; and applications will be received at the District Lands and Survey Office, Nelson, up to noon on Tuesday, 10th September, 1940.
Applicants should appear personally for examination at the District Lands and Survey Office, Nelson, on Thursday, 12th September, 1940, at 10 o’clock a.m., but if any applicant is unable to attend he may be examined by any other Land Board or by any Commissioner of Crown Lands.
The ballot will be held immediately upon conclusion of the examination of applicants, and the successful applicant is required to pay immediately at conclusion of ballot a deposit comprising the first half-year’s rent, broken-period rent, lease-fee, and improvement loading.
The section is situated within the Westland Mining District and is offered in terms of section 153 of the Land Act, 1924, which provides that no right to any mineral under the surface shall pertain to the lessee, whose rights shall be to the surface soil only.
SCHEDULE.
NELSON LAND DISTRICT.—THIRD-CLASS LAND.
Inangahua County.—Mawheraiti Survey District.—Westland Mining District.
Section 2, Block II: Area, 607 acres. Capital value, £155; half-yearly rent, £3 2s.
Weighted with £160 (payable in cash) for improvements, consisting of four-roomed cottage and two sheds, 50 chains fencing, 180 acres felling and grassing (now mostly in fern), and 15 acres stumped.
This section is situated in Burton’s Creek Valley about five miles and a half from Mawheraiti Railway-station (on the Reefton-Greymouth line), Post-office, and School, fifteen miles from Golden Coast Dairy Factory, and fifteen miles from Totara Flat Saleyards. Access is from Mawheraiti by two miles of formed road and three miles and a half unformed. The area consists of low flat and terrace land. Soil is of fair quality on the low flat, and poor on the terraces which run into pakihi formation; well watered by creeks. About 180 acres have been cleared but are now bad with fern.
Special Conditions.—(1) The right is reserved to the Crown to at any time create a tramway easement 10 ft. wide through this section.
(2) The milling-timber on the section belongs to Thompson Timbers, Ltd., and the right of ingress, egress, and regress over the section is reserved to that company, its agents, servants, workmen, or assigns, for the purpose of obtaining access to the timber.
